Welcome back, glad you had fun meeting people, then bashing them with sharp metal implements - nothing like it to break the ice
And to be honest Chinese is something I've considered several times, Cantonese and Mandarin
Ouch, lot of work there, good luck with that, I'm sure you'll get through a fair bit of it though Just don't go trawling through the forums and galleries

Heffling: I wish I had this much confidence in me!
monkeytroll: it sure was fun - foam weapons only though, with the way some people swing'em in a 4000-man battle that's dangerous enough already.... Oddly enough, reenactment always seems safer than LARPing .
Arakasi: Yep, the elites are hell. Today, I've managed to finish thirty-two bits of tube + greenstuff for the 4 burnagrots, and I've built a lootagrot with a looted Tau drone - he'll go with the servitors. I would've gotten more done, but the bathroom seems to be cursed, so after an afternoon of exorcism I'm bringing in an inqui - I mean plumber
Vitruvian XVII: Thank you! Building first though
So no pics today guys, since the bathroom decided to break down on me, and I was too stubborn to call the plumber straight away. Pics tommorrow, I promise!

Shhh... I'm still trying to fool myself. Especially since the wife got me a stompa that's still in the box - highly unnatural for me. I guess september will be stompa-month
The main problem I have, is that the modelling is never finsihed. I have ideas for an additional battlewagon, I want the stompa to walk, I've got a cool idea for stormboyz,.... modeller's ADD I guess!
Commissar Agro: Thanks, I'll need it!
So, small piccie update: here are some WIP pics of 4 more lootas. Just the basic shapes, lots of gs and frilly stuff to be added. If I can get these finished tomorrow, the goals are looking a bit more attainable. I have a bachelor party this weekend, so I won't be getting much grot stuff done. The sacrifices we have to make...
The grot on the left has a looted Tau drone going out of control; he'll have a (probably damaged) remote on the ground next to him once finished. The two middle ones are AdMech servitors, with the track unit salvaged from a kinder egg toy . The one the right is just a basic looted Tau drone, i need a few models to be more or less sane to show what they're meant to represent. the walking servitor still needs a handler.

Now when I said something along those lines I'm sure you told me it wasn't ADD, we just love everything
Hmm, takes me long enough to paint as is, if I waited till all the modelling was 'done' I'd have nothing but a sea of grey in my work-room...oh, wait a minute..I do...
Anyway, looking good, love the runaway drone

Commander Cain: Thanks man!
Dysartes: I actually might make it with all the modelling, which would be pretty nice
So, a busy two weeks. As always, when you want to focus on modelling, bad stuff happens: budget meetings, PCs breaking down,... Let's just say I've had a busy few weeks
Luckily, I managed to get some work done, toiling till late in the evening, and all I need to do now is 1 lootagrot and 3 burnagrots. The end is near- aand so is the deadline
Piccies:
Fisrt up, two pics of my second loota unit. I decided to go a bit crazy and based them on movie characters. Not all the pics worked out,
But here are two. See if you can figure out who they're based on:
I also finished all the basic grots. Only one pic worked out, so the other pic will be for later on:
And a very small buggy (based on the regular buggy- which only shows I may have gone a tad overboard on mine )
And yes, that's a grot with a rokkit launcher in the back!
Burnagrot n°7, and some WIP shots of the last 3:
That's all for today folks, I hope to get all 3 burnagrots and the last loota finished (he'll be Chuck Norris ), and if everything works out fine I'll post a group shot before the team tourney!

Commander Cain: So are they
To prove I'll (probably) make all the construction (painting is hopeless-family stuff today):
The last 3 burnagrots are not 100% finished, but they've been brought to a state of 'playable; I'll probably revisit them after the tourney and when my supplies of plastirod and guitar wire are back up. One lootagrot, and the construction is finished! I'll try and post an army pic somewhere today, if time allows it.

Good luck mate deadlines are always good for this type of project as they force you to focus and actually finish a force......Those burnas look great and I'm delighted by the Servitors. Great Idea where did the tracks for that unit come from?

monkeytroll: Thanks!
Llamahead: Luck didn't help out, my cat dropped two burnagrots the day before the tourney, but I still got it finished . The tracks on the servitor are from a kinder egg toy, it was part of a digging machine that got looted without mercy.
The Good Green: Thanks! You're right about the new guys, I have Grotter Harley (from Hot Shots part deux) in there as well, then Chuck Norris, and now I used a generic snipergrot as loota n°5. I've been thinking about doing the whole A-team, but there's only four of'em... And then they'd need a looted wagon! Glad you like the new burnas, some of the plasticard work is a bit sloppier then I would've liked, buit nothing a bit of gs can't fix. The mad dok one is real easy to make, you just glue two thin slices of plastic rod over the grot' eyes, and presto, mad dok!
I had an absolute blast at the team tournament, our team placing 6th out of a total of fourteen teams, and my friend Sam taking the price for best painted army. Not bad, considering we only had three players where most teams were 4-6 strong... You assigned three players of each team to be scoring each round, and some teams had built certain lists around the scenarios - we didn't have that luxury. Still, it was great, and I met a lot of nice people and got lots of cool comments on the grots. Here's where they stood the morning of the tourney:
Now, some short batreps, without pics sadly as I forgot to take the camera along :(
The grot revolution (1750) consisted of:
Warboss, mega armour, bosspole, bionik body
Big Mek, KFF, power klaw
2x 5 lootas
10 burnagrots in a battlewagon with two big shootas, boarding plank, defrolla
5 meganobz (two kombi-rokkits, 1 kombi-skorcha), riding a battlewagon with two big shootas, boarding plank, defrolla
29 grots + 2 kommissars
2 x 18 grots + kommissar
2 deffkoptas, both with a buzzsaw, one with big shootas and the other with rokkits
3 rokkit buggies (1 track)
2 x 3 kans, one with rokkits, one with grotzookas
Round 1
I started off the day against a nice chap called Kevin, who played Eldar. He had an avatar, a seer council on foot, lots of dire avengers and guardians, two vypers, a unit of harlies, 5 wraithguard, a falcon and a waveserpent. The mission meant there was an objective in each table quarter. Deployment was spearhead. The table had a bunch of rock formations, with a large formation in the centre blocking LOS. My opponent took first turn, and deployed in a crescent , poised for a two-pronged assault. I deployed with a very strong centre with the two battlewagons close to the middle, and then kans on each flank, with the grots in support ( a wraithlord with only 3 attacks doesn't like grabba sticks). The lootas were on my left flank, screened by grots and with a nice view on his vypers and waveserpent. My deffkoptas outflanked.
In turn one, Kevin advanced cautiously, looking for weak points in my line. Since, Ironically, I had more long-range firepower, I was happy to start off by moving slowly forward and taking pot shots, resulting in an immobilised wave serpent and a destroyed viper. His shooting was very poor, missing a lot despite being twin-linked. In his first two turns he killed 5 grots and a buggy with shooting... I then moved one unit of kans forward as a bait for his wraithlord and seer council, which he duly fell for. Three kans took down two warlocks, and in my turn my grots charged the wraithlord together with my disembarking meganobz, while my other grot unit took out the seer council with shooting (admittedly, with some help from lootas, the rokkit buggies and the shootas on the battlewagon, but the grots did the last wound on the farseer ). my other battlewagon tank shocked his harlies so they bunched up nicely, then the burnagrots disembarked and flamed them, the battlewagon blocking LOS to them from the vengeful Eldar. Turn 3 had my deffkoptas eating his falcon, and my meganobz and burnagrots re-embarking and moving full speed towards his remaining flank, with supporting fire from the lootas. He didn't have much that could hurt the BWs at this point, so I deffrolla-ed him, flamed him, and charged him with the megagrots. it was a wipeout by turn 5. Never managed it with my 'competitive' guard, but my fun and fluffy grots, however, proved quite dangerous!
Round 2
Eldar again; splendid; and controlled by Yves. Yves is a very nice guy with a beautifully painted and converted harlequin-themed list. He's also the guy who didn't lose a single battle in the European Team Championship - so I suspected I'd be in for a thorough pounding. His list consisted of two 9-strong bike councils, 3 units of dire avengers in two waveserpents and a falcon, and three troop jetbikes. The misison meant you had to get units in the opposing deployment zone (yep, stolen from 'Ard boyz), with dawn of war deployment. I figured that in this battle, that I'd just have to make him work hard to get units, hopefully allowing me to reach the other side with enough units. Taking down two seer councils wasn't going to happen, since they can eat my kans for breakfast anyday.
He took first turn and started killing off my grot units, with me deffrolla-ing one waveserpent and flaming the dire avengers stumbling out. Sadly, to do so I had disembarked from the BW, figuring he wouldn't risk charging the seer council into a forest. Four destructors later, however, he didn't need to enter the forest anymore. Scratch one of my only hopes of hurting the seer council. The battle then consisted of me deffrolla-ing what I could touch with the now-empty burnagrot's ride, which still had a big mek in there attempting to board wave serpents , and him eating all my kans and grots with the seer council and bladestorming dire avengers (hop out, bladestorm, hop back in,... you know the drill), then mopping up the lootas. This however, had left me enough time to get into his deployment zone with enough units. We also had our commanders near the centre (secondary objective), so it was a draw. I felt I got off lightly there, since I had nothing that could touch the council reliably. Not to mention Yves' splenid luck with them: Where 3 exploding kans took out 2 warlocks in round 1, here I did 50 wounds or so and only two died during the whole battle. lootas, rokkits, grotzookas, exploding kans... Nothing could touch theml!
Round 3
My third and final round was against a really nice guy named Tristan, using a kan wall: warboss with diversified nobz, 3 big boyz units, a unit of gretchin, a big mek with KFF, 3 deffkoptas w/rokkits, 3 units of kans and a deff dread with 4 ccws. The mission meant you had to capture buildings and objectives, with pitched battle deployment. He won and chose to go first (I didn't win a single roll, but all my opponents decided to go first), deploying his army in a tight bunch around his big mek, with one unit on a flank going for an objective and his grots camping in a building near his table-edge. I deployed my kans in the centre with my buggies, my lootas and two units of grots on my right to create a feel of 'heaviness', filling that table side. I then placed both BWs together on my left flank, hoping to use the boarding planks to kill the deff dread and kans deployed there so I could break through.
My plan worked, with my opponent advancing in the centre, aided immeasurably by his KFF, deflecting pretty much all shots. I deffrolla-ed his kans, killing one unit almost ouright, and drive-by-punching his dread with an immobilised result. My meganobz +warboss took down his warboss + retinue, and then I just started flaming his orks, while my kans and buggies held the centre long enough for my left flank to come rescue them. My opponent gave up at the start of turn 5, since I was poised to wipe him out anyway. Don't let this fool you though: if he had broken through in the centre, or if his nobz would've won (he only had 3 PKs so I figured I'd be okay), the battle could've swung in a very different direction...
So, the traditional army evaluation:
Warboss, mega armour, bosspole, bionik body: A: He does what he's meant to do, has a lot of staying power, and S10.
Big Mek, KFF, power klaw: A: the KFF is a bit random, but his PK means he can safely stay aboard the battlewagon and throw S9 punches at vehicles
lootas: B- : not very reliably due to the d3 shots and BS2. I'm considering one big unit, but that'll make them even more luck dependent. Since I have a lot of units in my opponent's face, they usually ignore the small units anyway.
10 burnagrots in a battlewagon with two big shootas, boarding plank, defrolla: A+: splendid. They scored 81 hits at one point, always cause lots of wounds, and can overload anything due to weight of fire.
5 megagrots (two kombi-rokkits, 1 kombi-skorcha), riding a battlewagon with two big shootas, boarding plank, defrolla: B+ reliable, hard to kill,... but not as much options ansd the guys without mega armour. I'd love a Waagh banner in there...
The battlewagons: A They did what they were meant to do, and are brutally effective vs vehicles, especially with PKs aboard; even skimmers are less happy to stay in place, since a 3+ doesn't mean they're 100% safe.
29 grots + 2 kommissars: C: they did ok, but two smaller units would be just as good.
18 grots + kommissar: B: cheap and cheerful, and a decent amount of staying power with 19 wounds and a 3+ cover save when going to ground
deffkoptas: B+: always handy, and force the opponent to take them into consideration- makes them pretty good.
rokkit buggies : cheap and cheerful, a recurring them in a grot army. Less mobile then the koptas, but still decent adn a bit more survivable.
Killa kans: B+: they shoot mor eor less OK, and have S10 in close combat. High I High S attacks will ruin their day, however, as demonstrated twice by the seer councils.
So in conclusion: a nice day with friends, good food, a good venue, fun people to play against, and lots of compliment son my army: I'll be going back next year!

Rose_Mountainz: Glad you liked the read! I'm also pretty happy with how the army worked out; I was a abit afraid of how I would do with 'softer' units, but in the end the grots turend out to be everything but soft : target overload + a few hard to kill units are a vicious combo!
Arakasi: Thanks! The rating on the buggies should be a B. They don't do much damage, but block a lot of LOS and movement, can easily contest, and are a tad harder to kill then the koptas. And in the end, the threat of 3 rokkits does mean they more attention then I expected considering the other targets in the army. I figure people will go for an easy kill first and take out the buggies, but that does mean that my battlewagons remain unscathed. I mean, the ork player shot his shootas at my buggies instead of my grotz... Automatically Appended Next Post: Small(ish) Update: the calcaulation of the winners was wrong at the end of the tourney, or team came in third instead of sixth, and I placed in the fourth spot individually

I think I much prefer the TL rocket buggies. they waste soo much enemy fire for a cheap 100pt unit of three. If ignored they will earn more than their points back in a game. And with AP3 they are very good at killing MEQ and taking the bite out of squads like devestators or assault marines. It's true they survive most small arms fire and I've had them assaulted by a whole squad of genestealers/AssaultMarines only to suffered a few shaken results and then toddle off again.. Koptas get stuck in combat, will die to most things. I'm planning a BattleWagon for my MEK at some point... and yours seemed to do quiet well above. For my army It'll make the KFF radius go so much wider. Plus my current KFF delivery system is MegaGrots and they are slowing the MEK down. and if the MEk squad rolls low for his movement and the kans score a 6" run they are in danger of leaving the KFF radius.. sadtimes. Panic...

Panic: Target overload always works a treat. even more so in this army, since I have quite some redundancy in slightly different forms, making target priority pretty hard for my opponents. The three guys I played weren't slouches, and they all admitted that they made mistakes because 1) there's a lot of variety and 2) they're used to differnent kinds of ork armies, which means they react in les soptimal ways.
As for the rokkit buggies vs buzzsawkopta debate: it comes down to what you need in your army as a whole. I have a lot of survivability in my two BWs, so I don't need more hard to kill units (which a unit of buggies is if you want to fully neutralize it). Thanks to outflanking, koptas also have decent survivability as long as they attack vehicles- not to mention that if I have first turn, I can kill/immobilize two transports pretty reliably, which means my opponent has to take them into account. To me, they add stuff the buggies can't. In your army of course, the buggies add speed, AP3 and side armour shots, which I need less since I have deffrollas and burnagrotz. Not to mention koptas have hit and run, so getting stuck in combats doesn't have to be for long. In the end, I like'em both, but I feel two koptas add more to my army then two buggy units.
As for the WBs: they do great if you take two; I've even thought about adding a third, but I'm not prepared to sacrifice my two kan units. I only took one in a few test games, which made it a huge target. Having two means that, unless your topponent has lots of firepower he'll go for easier targets suchs as the kans. The MANZ in the battlewagon are a lot better then on foot, especially with a boarding plank. They're safe from plasma and S8+, can board vehicles, and have a huge charge range, especially when calling the waagh!!. Same for the KFF Mek: his KFF radius is huge all of a sudden, and thanks to his PK he makes the BW dangerous even if ramming is not a good option (dreads with meltagun, anyone?). Even skimmers are a bit more cautious when you can throw S9 punches around if they make their 3+ save vs ramming .

At initiative 2, hit and run is a nice bonus *if* you pull it off Felt sorry for my last Ork opponent - who I actually managed three hit and runs (two in the same combat!) in the one game...
