3p. Koptas – The new Transport Kopta, Warkoppta (New) and DeffKopta

I can see IA9 being full of RG stuff and the 3 remaining Ork tribes.

Can I just ask for a clarification, are the transport Kopta and Warkopta the same thing or two different things?
At the open day the transport kopta was labelled as a warkopta.

The next book will have Eldar and Imperials not Orks, they've said not to expect the rest of the Ork stuff for a while yet, at least a year apparently. :(

Now that news makes me quite sad!

The only way that particular blow can be softened is IF there is more Raven Guard stuff in the next one too...

I must confess that I'm stumped by that. Is it a pun because it would be pronounced V-Day or is this one of those dialect-specific puns?

I kind of like these things GW/FW throws in. Puns that are somewhat obvious if you have just a bit of knowledge and pronounce things right.

That's too bad about the Ravenguard only getting that one special character, but it's still a cool model. Overall, the book seems realy impressive for all the Ork fluff and rules, I hope I get a chance to flip through it one day.

My copy arrived yesterday (along with a set of resin Grot krew - they more detailed and have more character than any of the plastic Grots). It's signed by Warwick - I didn't notice that until one of you pointed out that yours was signed

I have a couple of the earlier IA books, and this one is a huge improvement. Better artwork, and better 'in action' photos. They're no longer modelled so closely on the JJ Fedorowicz WWII titles (which also feature shiny pages, grainy photos and a sprinkling of colour plates). The Ork material is easily the best, and that's not just because I like Orks. The artwork for the Orks is more detailed and more interesting than the rather repetitive Guard and Marine subjects (you've seen one Raven Guard Assault Marine, you've seen them all). I think Paul Bonner did the paintings of the different kinds of Orks - fantastic to see him involved again.

The typoes are annoying, just as they were in the Ork codex. It's as if they're using Grots to proof-read. Rules are a distant third with FW, after the models and the artwork, but I wish they'd get rid of the basic grammatical mistakes.

Gathering the Informations.

I liked the way this was done compared to the rest of the campaign books. It gets boring reading that "Suchandsuch strike occurred on suchandsuch day, leading to suchandsuch counteroffensive!".

Snoozefest.

But now? The details of the campaign's actions are small summations, added as a footnote to a series of excerpts taken from the perspective of the boots on the ground. I loved reading the Elysian Sniper, Orek's story. I loved reading the Burna Boy's story, and I absolutely adored the Raven Guard Scout Sergeant's bits.

All in all--this one is a huge improvement in terms of narrative.

Good to hear! But remember that IA4 (the Tyranid one) was also written from more of a story point of view but obviously that didn't 'stick' as the overall direction of the IA books, so it will be interesting to see if they've changed the overall concept of the IA book or not moving forward.

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

I don't think a conscious 'change of direction' is strictly necessary. I think that they can swap them around and do different things in each one. The only thing, to me at least, that is tiring to read with the IA books is the Imperium always losing no matter what.

IA4 is easily my fav so far, but I haven't got IA7 or IA8 yet, so who knows.

Just finished reading IA8 and I agree with this entirely. The Imperiums monolithic war machine always seems to be wracked with ineptitude and poor implimentation. Whilst very Grimdark and all it makes for a less enjoyable/predictable read.
Spoiler:
I appreciate that this book was all about the Orks [as IA4 was for the Tyranids] and therefore necessitated their primary role in the fluffy bits but common, droptroops that can't coordinate air resources, marines that can infiltrate an Ork held planet but not tell that there are entirely too many Orks there.
Not a deal breaker, cos I really like the AI books but it is getting a little tiresome now.

H.B.M.C. wrote:IA4 is easily my fav so far, but I haven't got IA7 or IA8 yet, so who knows.

IA4 was very good and despite my comments I would place IA8 up there with it, yes the story [for me] wasn't as good but the presentation, scenarios and army lists really made it a great buy. My favourite IA book is still IA3, I still have a soft spot for it as the first on I got, I also thought that it showed a realistic picture of a mid-scale conflict while introducing some great new elements to 40K.

yeah,
Without going into details the main feature is that you can have a stompy unit in every FOC slot (except Elites)
plus things like the boys mobs have Meks instead of Nobs.

Kustom Meka Dread = 1 MegaMekaDread - HQ
DeffDread Mob = 1-3 DeffDreads - Troops
KillaKan attack Mob = 3-5 KillaKans - FastAttack
MegaDread = 1 MegaDread - HeavySupport

edit:
So if you maxed out your Dreads! (like we all want to)

2 MegaMekaDreads
18 DeffDreads
15 KillaKAns
3 MegaDreads

38 little stompies!

hmmm now i'm a tad confused, I've been collecting for 15 years but only played a few games, i've got a quite large raven Guard force and by pure coincidence i fell in love with the drop troop models about 3 weeks ago and was planning an Elysian army, so someone told me to get IA8 so I ordered it today! and now I hear that the stats are wrong! did I just waste nearly $100 bucks on this book to get the elysian lists and rules? I don't know much about Guard stats and was really hoping this would be good for me. :-(

yeah,
It's disappointing that they didn't triple check the stats.

But don't worry its a awesome book, and the mistakes in the list are obvious so you don't really need to wait for the FAQ... heavy support teams are not WS4 BS4 Ld10... and most of the errors will be called/marked out by the community.

The lists themselevs are very good characterful and a marked variation from the ork/guard codices.

Humble apologies for dregging this thread up, but my copy just arrived and I've got a feeling that the drawings of the buggy and wartrak found in the back of the Ork forces section is an actual preview of the long awaited buggy+trak plastic kit. FW seems to be an odd place to showcase upcoming GW stuff, however they have done it before with the CAD design of the plastic Valkyrie in the Aeronautica Imperialis book.

Grain of salt of course, but I'm feeling pretty damn sure about this.

I'm still waiting for my copy... no clue when it will arrive. The "My Account" on the new ForgeWorld website still has my order as "Acknowledged" after over a week. Is it on the way and the website not updated? Or do I have to wait longer?

Anyhow, I eagerly await my book and resin crack.

Mistakes in the book do not make it bad, and any one with more than half a wit should be ok using it. Yes they are bothersome, but at least they are getting less frequent

Anyone notice the rules for Zhadsnark the Evil Suns Biker Boss (Warboss on a bike)?

His unit type is listed as 'bike' and he has all the normal characteristics for a creature but then he has a special rule which says:

'Da Beast' - Kustom Rokkit Bike:
Zhadsnark's bike is a kustom-job, mounting a jet engine! It is a fast vehicle, but when moving flat-out it has a maximum movement of 24". Instead of assaulting a unit, Zhadsnark may choose to Tank Shock them, exactly as if he had the Tank special rule. It mounts twin-linked Big Shootas.

Those are some completely and utterly unplayable rules! I don't even know how to even interpret how you should even play this guy.

I'm assuming we stick with him as a biker since that's what his unit type and profile indicate. So with that assumption I'm just going to ignore the whole bit about his bike being a vehicle and moving flat-out 24".

Even if we play that he moves like a bike, how exactly do we use his 'tank shock' ability? Is it done during the Assault phase instead of making an assault move? If so, what is the maximum distance he can move with this tank shock move? I'm assuming he can't turbo boost and then tank shock since you can't take any voluntary actions in the same turn you turbo-boost.

Or is it supposed to mean that you are able to tank shock with his normal movement but that precludes him from assaulting in the same turn?

Ugh, what a disaster that unit entry is.

The way I'm reading it:

He can move 24" tops, and if he's actively assaulting a unit(like, say, Charging) he can elect to Tank Shock rather than just get the standard Charge bonus.

i'm reading it that, in the assault phase, he can either charge as normal or instead use that 6" to tank shock following the rules for tank shocking (i.e. enemies have to move 1" away from him unless they death or glory after passing a ld test).
