Here are some other bits that I've been working on recently...

First up are a whole mountain of extra zombies for Zombicide. The horde currently consists of 36 walkers, 1 Toxic walker, 2 Rage walkers, 16 Runners, 5 Fatties and an Abomination. There are 3 fatties and one abomination left to do before the standard zombies from Season 2 are done.

I've also made a re-start on the Warhammer Quest project by painting up some Night Goblins

Hey, Gobbos ! They are looking great !

Zombie look grim enough to be scary to... Though I find it hard to pic out the "specialists" from the usual ones... Maybe you could find a different hue to make them stand out more ? Or maybe it's just the fact that I don't know the model range... I guess if you show a "civilian" a Black Legionnaire & a Raven Guard, they won't make a difference

Heh. You know what... I forgot to post the picture with the fatties and runners in, which would be why you can't see the specialists

Here you go:

Runners

Fatties

I have to admit that I'm not overly happy with these ones. They look fine on the table, but those photos make them look scrappy, so I will probably go back an tidy them up to smooth out the transitions and add more definition.

I'm starting to have second thoughts on this painting challenge though as it is basically encouraging speed painting rather than quality. I know I could have done a better job on the zombies and the goblins :/

Ok I see the runners now

As for the painting challenge, I guess it all depends on the REAL objective.

Last year, with 2 friends, we challenged each other to paint a 1500pts army in about 8 months. Of course, these armies aren't the best painted we have (well, unless for me, coz it's my first one ), but we achieved to have a playable force in less than a year ! And though I'm sure I could have done better things with my Night Stalkers, I'm proud to field them, wholly painted, to be able to play with them !

So what's with you ? Do you paint them to be able to play with your buddies ? Then maybe that challenge is the way to go

The challenge is to paint as much of your unpainted collection as possible in 3 months to try and clear some of the backlog. Most of my backlog consists of zombies and three small Bolt Action forces at the moment. The zombies definitely need to be done in a quick manner, otherwise they will never be finished... So I guess it has a good objective

No second thoughts, but I will be taking more time and effort on the zombies in the future

Last Sunday's challenge was to paint up a villain. I had been carefully considering what Villain to put in for this mini project. Originally it was going to be one of the bosses for Warhammer Quest; then it was going to be the Necromancer figure from the Dredd game to go with all the zombies that seem to be spawning all over the place, but I finally settled on the Greatest Villain Ever!

Inspired by the Doctor's anniversary last year, I couldn't really pass up submitting the Daleks as my villainous entry. These models are from the cover of the children's Dr Who magazine, but unlike the Cybermen and other monsters, these ones are perfect for 28mm gaming once placed onto bases. Unfortunately they are lumpy, uneven and have horrible joins in the plastic that you can still see even if you file it completely flat. I destroyed one trying to get rid of the joints completely, so I'm afraid these others aren't completely line free as you can see down the front of the vents. Still.. on the tabletop they will work just fine.

Nice Daleks! I really like your zombie idea too! B&W gives them that dead-look that is always present in the make-up of the best tv/movie Zeds!

Seriously, though, nice work. Who knew the new daleks looked good in gold instead of the rainbow colours that killed them?

I got a nice surprise coming into the office this morning... my rather densely packed Achtung! Cthulhu kickstarter parcel has arrived. How exciting!

I've not had time for more than a cursory glance at the figures yet, but the quality is outstanding and they will be perfect for my plans for a ww2 SA storyline. The detail and casting quality is flawless, with no visible cleanup needed on the parts, other than clipping any small bits from their sprues. Scale wise they should be perfect sat next to Bolt Action troops. Once I have some stuck together I will get a nice scale photo up. The one downside (if you see it as that) are the sheer number of small parts for some of the models and how delicate they are; we could also do with a parts list for each set as each set of 6 figures lumps all the bits into one bag. I fear for the lives of some of these as time goes on, especially the tentacles on the Cthonian or the rocket being carried by the Nachtwolf Stalker. I've included some examples below with a USB stick as scale guide to how small some of those bits are!

Some of the heroic characters come with some deep, dark secrets. One of them has a small dragon/imp thing sat on her shoulder and Natalya (below) has some sort of spirit riding inside her that comes out and protects her every now and then. The nice thing about both of the models is that neither has to have the mythos element attached as there are no visible markers on the model for where you stick them. This means that it would be possible to get two of each and have one version that is usable in normal pulp games and one for mythos/horror games.

Just look at the size of the sword in the second image... then realise that it is about a third as thick... I really don't know how it survived the post as some of the thicker pieces didn't.

We've even got to deal with separate horns for the Night Gaunts!

And a mass of limbs to attach via very small ball joints... these are going to be as delicate as some of the worst infinity models and probably as nightmarish to glue together. Hopefully these delicate multi-part models will be the first to get the plastic treatment we were promised in the kickstarter.

The only disappointment so far though is the huge scale difference between the two deep ones! There are three different sculpts (not including the special in the bulk box). The left hand model is a giant amongst fish-men as you can see from the photo below. Thankfully I've only currently got one of each so he can be an older Deep One, but it would have been nice if they were all the same scale.

The rest will make an appearance as they get constructed and painted. I can safely say that I'm over the moon with them all and will be buying lots more as they get released for the skirmish game if the quality remains at this level.

Which set of rules?

I've read the GM and Player books for the roleplaying part, which are very well written and look like it will be an interesting environment to play in. The skirmish system they talked about during the kickstarter isn't being produced now as they have decided to work with another company to produce a better, larger system. Still waiting to hear what they will do with all the people that paid for the KS skirmish system.

After spending the last 3 hours trying to stick the figures together, I can now safely say they are as big a pain as Infinity models, with some very delicate pieces needing to be stuck on via such tiny surface areas that I don't think it'll work. I also need instructions for one of the models as none of the bits seem to fit :/

Scale wise they are also small. They were supposed to be slightly larger than Bolt Action, but I've got some plastic commandos here that are towering over most of the figures... including the one that is supposed to be a 7ft tall uber-soldier :/

Once I have some based I'll post a comparison as in some cases the difference is rediculous

They have taken a while, but the Coureur des Bois for the Bloggers For Charity project. These are the first historicals that I've ever painted , so it was a nice diversion from zombies or pulp models.

I'm happy with the models (mostly). The only area that could be a lot better are the eyes. It's something I struggle with a lot and really need to work on so they don't have such a surprised expression. The photos are wiping out some of the shading/highlights too, which is irritating, but hey.

They will be appearing at Triples in Sheffield on the 17th/18th of May along with all of the other great offerings. It's something I want to go up and see in person as it'll be rather spectacular to see the project come together.

The next completed entry is my first ever Bolt Action force. The list is based upon one found on the Warlord forums, so I just have to hope that it works... sounds fun though

British Commandos - 500pts (just shy thereof)

We have an officer and his adjutant

The free Observer you get as a British player

A medic, just to keep things around a little bit longer

Two squads of 8 commandos. Each have 4 smgs and 1 lmg

And to add a bit of punch we've got a PIAT team to try and deal with any light tanks that turn up in a small game

and a sniper team to try and take pot shots at weapons teams or officers

With the exception of the guy in the great coat, all of that was built from one box of the plastic commandos. If I hadn't given one model to a friend as an example, I could have built everything for this force for £22! They are nicely detailed models with loads of options. I love that the weapons aren't attached to the hands as it gives you far more options than the plastic Cadians when posing them. The only down side are some of the weird expressions on their faces and the godawful lighting in the photos... one of the goals for this year is to finally get a decent lighting setup for my lightbox... it's irritating me no end. Doesn't help that my normal camera lens is broken either :/

So no-one likes commandos then? Let's see if you prefer giant robot walkers instead

I had a spare Sigrid from the original starter sets, so I decided to pop the hatch on one of the Luthers and make her the pilot

And here we have a scale shot next to one of the commandos to show just how mentally large the DUST walkers are next to 28mm figures
