You could hollow out that section and put in the FW head I imagine. That would look epic.

BUT! I would get 2 before trying that on one... which means you need 10 as 9 would be a target!

Have you guys read the thread or the OP?

Makes it pretty clear what the LE box is and that there is a price difference.

But feel free to go on and keep on posting "HerpDerp GW"

Yes, I cannot find mention of the unlimited box in there after reading it twice, perhaps I missed it but prices aren't mentioned there either, only the fact that they don't know the price as of yet.

(Which btw is 107 USD as mentioned a few times on the previous page)

I wish GW listed how many they had left on their website......

We spent an entire page discussing the standard edition. It'll be released the week after the LE is(so, Sept. 8th) and will be $99 USD.

As I have already stated, I did not and will not read this entire thread simply for that information I want information but I don't actually want to do the work to find it, however big thanks for forwarding that info in this post!

Fixed that for you. Sorry, but it is a giant pet peeve of mine to have people pop in every few pages and basically post "I know the information is in here, but I don't want to actually look for it, so could somebody please spoonfeed it to me...". Don't take it personal.

Back to actual on-topic discussion though, sorry for the rant.

I can't blame someone for not reading the entire 50+ page thread and asking a question. However,, @spectral, I am sure that your fellow posters would be much more inclined to help politely if you asked in a more... measured... fashion. You do not have to read the whole thing, but they do not have to summarize it for you because they did. If you are asking for a favor it would help to be friendly I think...

Moving on...

Hmm, a spare Defiler head might also look good there. A head replacement certainly seems an easy way to create a little individuality.

I'll also be very interested in how easy the body is to repose after a little surgery with a razor saw.

Will the models poses be static? Im thinking about the line I read about the box on GW's site:
"Dark Vengeance contains 49 miniatures, all of which are snap-fit plastic models - this means that glue is optional. "

And also:
"Like all of the models in the Dark Vengeance boxed game, the Interrogator Chaplain is a push-fit miniature, which is almost impossible to believe considering the level of detail on the model"

So if they are snap-fit, I understand that they will snap-fit, but can you change the poses of them at all?
Offcource Im talking about the troops models and perhaps the Hellbrute, and not the Lord and Captain etc.

Don't think so. Kinda sucks, but it is a starter set after all. The models still look pretty damn good regardless, and I imagine future multi-part plastics might not be beyond the realm of possibility.

Just did some minor calculations...

Withe the Interrogator-chaplain, the Dark Angels contingent comes out to just under 1000 points. Wouldn't that be a slightly higher point level than Black Reach?

From memory, the Space Marines had about 650pts, the Orks 450, so having the DA be 1000pts by themselves is quite interesting.

I have to say that this starter set, overall, is probably the smartest thing GW has done for *years*.

They looked at the success of the limited edition Space Hulk. What do people want? Dynamic, detailed, well-posed minis, especially Terminators and characters. *Especially* if they're limited edition.

They saw how well and how rapidly Space Hulk sold. They tried to do the same thing with Dreadfleet, and it flopped -- no Terminators, no power armour, no minis useable in 40K.

My estimate is that the starter set limited edition is being produced in at least a couple of hundred thousand units worldwide -- so their economies of scale are even better than on SH. Plus, once they sell out of the limited edition -- which is already making them more money than the incredibly lucrative Space Hulk -- they can keep using more than 95% of the molds, to make the unlimited edition.

And their sales are predictable. The vast majority of existing 40K players -- a far larger customer base than the newbies this set nominally targets -- have already preordered the limited edition, a few days after it became available for preorder, because if the unlimited set is a bargain, the limited one is even more so. We know that if we end up not wanting the Chaplain we can sell it at a profit on eBay in a year or two anyway... but who wouldn't want that Chaplain?

Very smart, GW.

SM had 590pts if everything was bog standard and you gave the Captain a Powersword

The Orks had 450 exactly if everything was bog standard and then the Twinlinked Rokkit launchers, Big Shootas on the boys and BossKlaw was factored in.

I think the models for both forces are ace, especially considering this is a starter box and the minis are snap together.

I'm building a DA army, so these models were perfect. I'll also just trade out the Chaos for someone else's DA and it's a very good start to a 2000 point army for $109.

Definitely pre-ordered this set.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

Sorry if this has been asked before. I skimmed backwards from the newest post. I dont play 40k but I am a collector and painter.

I wanted to ask those in the know if this special edition is the next Space Hulk/Dreadfleet? The yearly(?) standalone offering. I am not sure since both of those are standalone games and only space hulk had figures that were useful outside of itself. This set not actually being it's own game and such.

I know this is replacing the assault on black reach box and that is/was widely available. Just wondering if there is still something else coming out or if they are now just going this route.

Thanks in advance.

I truly do not understand the animosity towards duplicate poses on a few of the miniatures. The duplicated miniatures are amazingly sculpted in the first place (Chaos chosen) and fill a role in the unit.

I love all the poses of the Cultists and even though some are duplicates, they can be made to look very different via painting techniques and modeling techniques. Plus, I like that I will have a few in the same pose to work with!

The only ones I would be remotely disappointed about are the tactical squad but again, There is only so much you can do with a snap fit base starter unit.

I can see some of the animosity towards the modelling of the back of the Hellbrute but again, it gives more experienced modellers/painters a solid canvas to work with unlike the cloaks and robes where added detail has been modeled.

I love the pose of the Librarian and am figuring out how to get an additional one (because I have already gone halvsies on my starter) so that I can turn him into a Chaos Sorcerer.

I am unimpressed by the terminators but have never been that impressed by terminators (at least the models other than the Chaos ones which I also hope get redone)

It's so easy to convert plastics to have different poses anyway, or just do arm / head swaps.

No, it is nothing like that. This is the new standard starter set and will be for at least the next few years. The only difference between the LIMITED EDITION Dark Vengeance and the standard Dark Vengeance set going on sale in a few days is the inclusion of one extra miniature, the Interrogator Chaplain.

So for those out of the loop, or too young. What were choas cultists (and Sob) like back in the day?

Would be good to contrast how GW has changed over the many years it has been growing into the omnipresent super power of today.

Prices on starter sets thankfully are not being notched up at this time with Dark Vengeance, the standard set will cost the same as Assault On Black Reach. That's $99 in the US.

Somebody in printing got confused and the box art ended up on the BRB and vice versa.
