I feel bad for not gushing as soon as I saw this earlier - because the crew looks great, also Arena Rex!! I can see being sad that the sculpts didn't go as hard as the art, and bad casts are always a bummer, but the end results rock. Happy to see the hippocampus or whatever it is in there, such a gleefully weird critter.

Haven't updated in a while; honestly it's been a rough few months and my hobby has taken a backburner as a result.

I've started work on my Kharadron Overlords, and it looks like the first model to be completed for the army will be the Ironclad, as I am completing this for the Dakka Monthly Painting Challenge.

The narrative behind my Kharadon Overlords will be a Halfling Junk Force, made up of scavengers and scavenger robots in lieu of Dwarves (*cough*Duardin*cough*). Think Borderlands meets Ian McQue. Their ships aren't particular new or fancy, but they're rugged, and they're continuously patched to keep them running.

The Heroes and unit champions will be Halflings, but everything else will be some sort of junk bot or scavenger bot.

Most of the fiddly bits on the ship are separate right now for easy painting, plus the faithful crew to be added.

Are they going to be AoS or 40k? That looks very Orky. Would be cool to see the force that could work in either game as a counts as army.

So I've finished this project, and I'm super stoked to work on the rest of the army given how this turned out (and how quickly). I wish I could have submitted more photos for the monthly challenge, but being capped at 6 there's too much to show off.

This will be purely AoS. Its funny because I keep a very different narrative in my head for both games, and I'm much more willing to go goofy or esoteric with AoS than I am with 40k, which I almost exclusively keep grim-dark and super-cereal. It's odd.

Yea the riveting and plating makes it look Orky, doesn't it?

So I'm actually going through a Necron blitz right now. I am working on wrapping up the units from Indomitus (Warriors, Warden, Plasmancer, and Cryptothralls completed already). I'm almost done the Skorpekh Destroyers, and after that it's only the Skorpekh Lord, Overlord, and Reanimator left. I'll snap and upload photos hopefully soon.

I also pre-ordered Szerakh and 3 Lokhusts, and I'm going to be getting my hands on Wraiths, Ophydian Destroyers, and Hexmarks when they're released too (and probably the Monolith and terrain Pylons for completion when they're pre-ordered).

I also have a Command Barge to repurpose and paint, and a Nightbringer to paint up as well, and of course the Mourngul for the monthly painting challenge!

It's unlikely I'll get to more KO until probably mid/late November, depending on how much time all the Necron stuff takes. But for the KO, I'll have 2 Gunhaulers to scratch build/paint, 10 Arkanauts, 18 Erdrinriggers, and a few heroes (the names escape me at the moment).

Brunhilda is a stunner, man, was a pleasure watching her come together on IG Likewise been cool to see you return to your 'Crons. Been curious if you'll be doing many conversions to the new stuff, tho there aren't many new vehicles to convert into leggy versions of themselves - or they're already leggy gun-toting things

Cheers! It was a fun project to really devote more than my usual 2 week cap on!

I'm actually not sure. I really really love the design of a lot of the new models, in particular the Skorpekhs and Lokhusts. My list brainstorms include both Wraiths and Ophydian as well, although I'm not sure what will be final until I get the book in hand.

I'm not a fan of Wraiths and the Ophydians are meh to me, although they remind me a lot of the OG metal wraiths from way back. If anything will end up being converted in the new wave, it's more than likely those.

I'll probably look at making my own Nightbringer too, one that's appropriate to scale. I would use my own Vishnu Destroyer Lord as my Nightbringer counts as, but the base is way too big. But I don't think it'll be a huge issue in casual play.

I almost asked if you'd be making your own Nightbringer The rules are star god tier but the teensy model is nice, if smol and cuddly tier.

The issue is I need to maintain a relative silhouette and base size. He's not a character and cant benefit from LoS, so it's actually do my disadvantage to have him be TOO big, although admittedly with the new building rules, I really only have to worry about weapons that ignore LoS (like Eldar DCannons)

That ship is amazing. So full of character. It could not even have a faction and it would be great, but building a fleet in that same style should be great.

Finished the Mourngul. This is a surprisingly difficult model to photograph because of the way it angles. Yikes. Also, WITNESS THEM BRUSH STROKES!

Experimented with a really simple, cool blood effect that I'm absolutely in love with (Tamiya Candy Red + VMC Black), and I need to find more ways to use it!

Cheers! Yea I'm hoping around December (or more likely January) once I've wrapped up this wave of Necron releases, I'll get back to my KO and start cranking out more of the army (because while I do want to get games in with AoS, COVID limitations and the state of the game with some of the newest releases have really kept back the urgency for the game, at least within our hobby group).

Woosh okay so this is going to be a pretty image heavy post. I've been a little slacking in updating this, mainly because I've been focused on grinding out all these new Necron kits to add to my collection/re-build an army for the new Codex.

First up is the Catacomb Command Barge. Another one of my old walkers, repurposed with new weapons and given a new paintjob.

I'd had this Nightbringer lying around for years and no excuse to paint him...that is, until I saw his shiny new stats. Unfortunately, because I already run a fairly small, elite Destroyer Cult themed army, he doesn't quite make the cut after a few test games. I need more bodies and ObSec units on the board to help with objectives. Was still fun to paint a little piece of history and scratch that nostaligic itch.

This was a really fun piece to paint, if a bit fiddly, and he's actually quite a lot of fun to play on the tabletop! We play mostly narrative/casual in our gaming group, so bringing this guy helps to power down my army quite a bit without deliberately hamstringing myself. And I get to use this sick model!

I enjoyed painting these heroes from Indomitus, but they'll probably never see play.

Love me some space cowboys. I picked up two in my excitement, and ended up reposing one to avoid twinsies syndrome.

Smash lord and his smash bois. These guys paint up super quick compared to their more snake-like brethren.

I hate painting Ophydians. If I never have to paint another one again, it'll be too soon. I am glad they're done though, and they're super fun to field, despite being very fragile glass cannons.

One of my favorite additions to the army. These guys are menacing AF, and they do tons of work on the table! We are playing a Crusade campaign and I've managed to make these guys Objective Secured with a Battle Trait. Oh boy, I'm glad GW didn't give them this natively; it would make them so OP!

Love these guys; I've swapped out all the Doomsday Arks in my list, and these 3 help fill the gap of bringing much more consistent heavy firepower. Plus the models are very cool, although all 3 have broken off their base-pegs now (and have subsequently been pinned; really should have done that from the start!)

So there it is; these are all the Necrons I've added to my collection this year, most of it since the release of the book a couple months ago!

Photo of my entire Necron collection in all it's magnificence. It's something like 7,100 points; I haven't actually tried figuring out the exact number, just ballpark.

I also took the opportunity to photograph my Ossiarch Bone Reapers army/collection, which I painted at the start of lockdown in April. I hate the way this army plays; it's boring and bland and they'll probably never see the tabletop again, at least not with me leading them. More than likely I'll probably sell the army to replenish the hobby coffers.

And prior to the Necron Codex absolutely slamming me, I had gotten some more work done on my Junkforce to get them to a place where I can start playing games with them. There's still a lot of work I need to do with detailing up the models, but at least I don't have to proxy anything anymore!

Everything looks awesome - but I don't have the words to explain how incredible that junkforce is. I have no idea what game it'll be used in or what GW army it's a proxy for, but I just adore how everything fits together in such a weird way. For example, the fact that the art design of the graffiti on the biggest ship matches the bots is a great touch, and using the BB halflings gives the whole group a ton of character. Can't wait to see them painted up.
