Update: Painting has begun. Mainly skin and the black undercoat for the metallic areas. I need to make some serious progress tonight. We shall see. Luckily it's a pretty simple figure painting-wise.

Morning Update: I did get more work done last night... not as much as I'd hoped, but I think I'm in good shape schedule-wise. I got the metal bits done save for the edge highlighting and any rust or schmuck I decided to put on. Pants and boots are (mostly) done. Started the optivisor and spotlight. Also put my first coat of yellow down on his armor bits (he is a Bad Moon after all).

No pic yet. Perhaps I'll do one tonight. Thing about the way I paint orks is that they pretty much look terrible until just before they're done, so I've never felt like WIP shots help all that much. With the game tonight I'll probably have no more than an hour to paint this evening, but that'll be enough to allow me to tidy a few things up & move certain elements forward.

Got some new stuff for my grot army yesterday but it's going to be a surprise. Going to be a lot of fun to make and paint though.

@Yggs: Thanks & no problem. I steer people to your tut all the time. simian = Gits Actually my all-time favorite tankbusta that I cobbled together from normal boy bitz has an even more ape-like look to him. Just looks bad-a**. My Gits figure isn't so much that as a bit goofy... too many augmentations I guess... brain gets a little squidgy with all those conduits running through it.

I might get some hate from SM fans, but I wish you'd work on this blog more and the Mantis boys a little less.

Sick looking stuff, Gitsplitta! I love the beacon on his head - the light effect is astounding.

I'm a little confused about his hand though - surely an Ork would make the fingers sharper, in imitation of their own fingernails? A small item, but just something that bothered me. Other than that, fantastic! Tons on character in this model.

That could happen epy. With the influx of grots (thanks Iffy) and picking up some new things myself to work on, there should be more work on my orks forthcoming both myself and Iffy. I'm nearly done with the basic space marine army I was shooting for though, so I need to push on there so I can complete that task.

I think you're right Nightwatch, but the had was actually intended for a human model, I just nicked it for this project and didn't think it quite through to the logical conclusion (I was pressed for time throughout). I'd modify it as you suggest but since the hand is flush against the ground I'm not sure it would accomplish anything.

So, remind everyone about the keys to the self-portrait... it's basically an ork cybered up into a painting machine, which is what I feel like quite frequently. Air brush (slugga) in one hand attached to the compressor on his back, optivisor bolted to his head, lamp bolted to his chest with a grot prod / paintbrush in his right hand (as I often seem to be encouraging young painters to keep at it). It was... a lot of fun to make... and I'm quite happy with it. A nice compliment to all my excellently painted grots.

Loads of character in the model which the painting has really brought out. That's some nice OSL on the idea-beacon, and love the little beard-dags on the jaw.

I have to say one of your best orks yet. Your skills have improved leaps and bounds over the past year. Its weird to see a new avatar image by your name but it is very fitting. I think its my favorite piece of work your have done so far.

Glad you guys like him. I could't help but model the idea that every time he had a decent though an actual light bulb would go off above his head... I'd model an accompanying klaxon if I could.

Yeah, schank... it is a bit odd to see another picure, especially another or, up there on the boards. But I'll get used to it as with all things. And you're right, it is very fitting.

It's like somewhere in there... he's studying you. Trying to figure out whether to prod you, paint you or spray you with whatever his slugga is loaded with.

These are the grots that Ifalna did for me, finally based up with a proper picture. While the photo may look blurry as you see it on the blog, if you double click on it and zoom in within the gallery... you'll see that it's actually quite clear and detailed. So you can see the gretchin in all their glory!

@marmaduke: Next project will be pretty fun & I think unexpected. Give me a couple of days to get the prep work done and I may have something to show.

@Bigfish: Thanks! There's a lot of older grots in there too, so some of what you might be seeing aren't really modified grots, just OOP or FW versions of them.. though when I built them I did gleefully mix and match heads on the newer plastic ones.
