You're right but I think we can assume a similar window for the next shipment. So 3-8 weeks after it's on a boat on the water.
So, I asked both Adam and Joe (shipping MGR, I believe) about the expansion ship dates, and neither was willing to give a date because they don't want to over promise on the time line. Which is fine by me.
All the dudes in the booth were really good guys, so It makes me very comfortable in supporting them in the future (sure, the end product doesn't hurt).
So yes, Alpharius, I'm also second guessing selling my copy.

Me too - I think I'll be keeping it!
And I'm going to still be devoting all of my spare positive thoughts towards getting all the expansions delivered THIS calendar year!
Sinful Hero wrote: He also mentioned when the character in the group before us had it's genitals destroyed, that it could never use Intimacy again.
First, I love that sentence. Second, I am imagining there is an item called "sack full of genitals" that allows the bearer to control the actions of another model, given certain conditions.
I wouldn't say it's impossible. It was off of a critical hit from the Phoenix at the waist area-something like, "Your genitals are destroyed. Your line, and the line of thousands of your descendants has been severed. You gain the Apathetic aura from the futility of your struggles."
The Apathetic aura prevents a character from using survival points- they can't dodge attacks, dash out of the way, take an extra attack, or encourage another character. They basically lose the will to live.
Hrm... I suppose Poots has not been married as long as some of us then. Or perhaps much, much longer?
It does seem a little strange that a character who might already have children or grandchildren would take that pose, but oh well.
I'm paraphrasing a bit- I don't remember the exact wording. I'm guessing sex and the next generation are pretty central to the culture of the settlements(going off of leaked art and piecing together blurbs), and losing the ability to participate in those activities would leave one a bit apathetic.
I ordered a Sci-Fi Twilight Knight pin-up. I'm a total sucker for the Twilight Knight and all her variants. Even though, I don't actually have the normal TK pin-up. I'll buy the hard plastic pin-up set eventually!
Edit: And I still really, really want the Fighter, Rogue, and Mage in plastic!
Cool that it comes with the promo lantern items from the con that some people were sticking on ebay. I like that.
I ordered the Sci-Fi Twilight Knight... but the postage was more than the figure. So i bit the bullet and also got the $100 pinups of death pack that I'd been meaning to get at some point - same postage, which was nice.
The almost-almost-almost-here position for the core game inspired me to get on to finishing up the Pin-ups of death assembly (yeah, the models are gorgeous but some of the assembly is so, so fiddly!).
Was the number of pieces for the Phoenix ever quoted anywhere (BoW video maybe?), I have this idea that it's over 100, and I'll be honest, that's a little intimidating...........?
Sinful Hero wrote:I think it's cool that it's a pinup being sold for $15. Glad that wasn't a show-only price.
Dunno if I agree regarding the price, the HIPS pinups of death (the nearest equivalent models) work out at $12.50 each, so $15 doesn't seem so cool to me. Also, being a "rest of the world" buyer I have to factor in high shipping costs plus customs fees plus Royal Mail bending-me-over fees, so I find it hard to justify the eventual total price for one plastic figure.
I already own plenty of KD figures which I'm very happy with, but ordering single figures from the store is not financially viable, especially in HIPS; it's a great medium for gaming figures but I prefer my "luxury" figures to be in resin, for obvious reasons.

A few pages back, DaveC put up a good sprue image.
Thanks Dentry, but I was looking for a pic of the assembled mini, which sadly doesn't yet appear to exist. I was happy to pledge for some plastic pinups during the kickstarter based solely on the artwork, because they hadn't been sculpted yet (and I do love the artwork ). This figure has been sculpted, yet no assembled pictures exist.
Poots is a master at marketing his product, so this strikes me as a little odd.

Perhaps I should have said, decent for US based buyers.
It's $10 cheaper than the reason versions, and the last single-figure 32mm HIPS product was the Halloween special at $25. It appears to me he's still working out where he wants his prices to be, and I personally find $15 to be a fair price(as a US customer).
I would be quite satisfied if pin-ups were fifteen dollars going forward. As for them being cheaper in the pin-up collection, it's generally cheaper per model to buy a "collection" of them (so to speak) opposed to buying one at a time. I agree, twelve dollars would be better because I'm cheap, but if pin-ups are in the twelve to fifteen range, I think that's pretty fair.
It looks quite nice, hopefully they release a resin variant in the near future.
Have you seen the resins side by side with their plastics?
I have to be honest: I'm not sure the resin gives you any noticeable difference. I ordered the Pinups collection in plastic prior to closing out my pledge manager. Needless to say, every pin up I have coming from Monster will be in plastic.

I own the plastic pinups of death box set so I'm familiar with the quality of the KD plastics, the detail is indeed very good, but in my view not quite as good as resin. Slide core technology in plastic tooling can alleviate some of the undercut issues, but can't remove them entirely, compromises still need to be made.
I own many KD resin models too, but I don't own any of the same mini's in both plastic and resin so can't compare the two "in hand"; It would be interesting to see comparison pictures to compare like for like, if they were both primed I'm pretty sure I could tell which was which!
I ordered a mixture of resin and plastic pinups from the Monster KS, plastic for the ones that I liked and resin for the ones that i really liked .

$400 for just the Core game hoss. Was $100 during the kickstarter. Expansions are probably going to be ~$50+ apiece depending on size.
I'd definitely advise anyone interested in KD:M to consider the pre-purchase. $275 is not cheap but it's certainly much better than $400.
The next best option is a bit of a gamble: ebay. I'm sure people will be putting up copies of the game once the KS fulfills, but the MSRP has already been set by Adam and KD products in general have very 'boutique' prices on ebay. It's entirely possible someone will want to auction their pledge at KS-cost, but it's more likely they'll want (and people will bid) closer to retail for it.
Alpharius wrote: Yeah, who knows what the Dragon King or the Festival of Lights (?) expansions will ultimately end up costing!
Considering they come with one GIGANTIC model which GW would've inevitably charged $100 for alone... plus several decks of cards, new settlement jumbo-cards, and loot cards.... yeah... expansions are going to fetch a high price.
Does anyone, incidentally want to sell a Gorm or Spidicules expansion from their pledge? I hadn't realized until this week that I ended up ordering everything BUT those. I'd be willing to pay a mark-up on them for those inclined, who might be downsizing their pledge just a bit.
Didn't realize Space Twilight has Chun-Li thighs. Might end up ordering one after all.
I don't know how any of you can think of selling your Kickstarted copy. Didn't you order an extra just for the purpose of recouping the costs of the game?
I wish I had, especially as I had a bad feeling this one would skyrocket in price/ value before all is said and done.
Live and learn I guess. I got back into painting figures just for the purpose of eventually trying to tackle painting this game.

Just noticed the Scifi Twilight Knight is sold out. Wasn't sure we were gonna see that as it's plastic and didn't indicate the number of stock available. Wonder how soon it'll be up again.
And in hindsight, I do wish I'd grabbed another copy of the boxed game through the kickstarter. Little did we know how precious it would become.
Edit: Actually, I'm not sure the Scifi Twilight Knight will be restocked as-is when reading in its description "A future iteration will be presented in a different fashion"
Dentry wrote: I'd definitely advise anyone interested in KD:M to consider the pre-purchase. $275 is not cheap but it's certainly much better than $400.
I still wonder how many units he thinks he'll sell at $400. Then again, people were buying Blood Bowl on eBay at $300 + when it was still in GW stores so what do I know, right?
Definitely. There are certainly individuals (and groups) out there that will buy it at that price. Maybe speculators, too? I wouldn't be buying it alone at $400 (I think), it'd have to be a group investment with whoever was going to play.
Adam's stated he tried to whittle down the box to be as affordable as possible without sacrificing what he considers the KD:M experience. I don't really doubt the game will sell out but I'm not expecting it to fly off the shelves as quickly as their usual releases.
Also, the Sci-fi Twilight Knight is back up so... that's a bit odd considering the usual KD availability patterns.
Dentry wrote: Also, the Sci-fi Twilight Knight is back up so... that's a bit odd considering the usual KD availability patterns.
Adam mentioned in the comments section that it had come down to allow them to carry out the KS fulfillment, but he changed his mind and decided the picking team working extra hours to avoid disappointment was better... so I think she is a longer term pinup. Possibly.
Dentry wrote: it'd have to be a group investment with whoever was going to play.
That's a sound plan. At one point during the Kickstarter, I was in for the boardgame, before being put off by a) the ridiculous number of cards coming with it b) comments Poots made during the Kickstarter that it would take 3 hours per session and multiple sessions to finish one game.
It was then I knew I'd never have people in my life willing to make that sort of time commitment to play a game with me, so I just dropped down to a few of my favorite individual minis.
My group pre ordered at gencon for 275. Still pretty steep but when cthulhu wars I believe is also in the 200 range it may start being the norm for "high end" board games.
Is it expensive? No doubt about it. But seeing the components and the game play had my group really excited for when we get our box.
Some more bits from Poots in the comments yesterday. The first comments were about the shipping. The EU boxes are on their way to the EU distributors, he just hasn't confirmed where the ship currently is, other than "on the water".
Poots wrote:Messeangers, armor kits, dice, resins and pinups are all part of wave 1. We are personally picking and packing those to save cost and errors.
This doesn't answer what is happening to these bits for EU/RoW backers... so I assume these are coming from NA as well.
Poots wrote:resin beta backers will have their resin and the game + survivor level shipped out to them a few weeks in advance. My hope is that they can help us flesh these out and instruct our team on where to provide on boarding support, for when the majority of the backers receive their game. I am also hoping, that they can provide us with some early insight into custom campaigns. As we are planning on developing extra content to be published online.
Someone then asked about the 5-6 player variant as nothing has really been seen about this. The core game has multiples of each equipment piece. I would assume this also explains the larger number of cards in the expansions too.
Poots wrote: There are 6 founding stone and 6 cloth gear cards. There are 3 of just about every other gear card in the box. More then enough to outfit 6 survivors, with our 5-6 player variant. Playing on a gear grid is not necessary and is something we don't even due around the office. (It's really just meant to help you learn the game).
And it looks like the monsters get harder. It sounds like you add in extra hit location cards, or more likely it adds some higher level AI cards than it would normally have for the difficulty.
Poots wrote:It makes the monster stronger to account for the extra players. You do not gain any additional rewards, since that would be campaign warping
Adam has also been posting over on Boardgamegeek in answer to some comments about the Showdown phase being bland and lacking tactical elements
Poots on BGG wrote:Kingdom Death: Monster and decisions.
At this point, I have played a lot of Monster (surprise!).
I can tell you that the game has a tremendous amount of small choices, that lead up to unbelievable in game coincidences. The order that players attack in, the choice of where they attack from and their positions on the board are exceptionally key depending on the monster you are fighting. Add that to gear choice, how and when to use it and how and when to use survival to perform actions that can interrupt both other players and monsters, the actual control you have over each of your choices is huge.
Of course, at the heart and soul of it... you do need to kill the monster before it tears everyone apart!
The White Lion, for example, has several cards in his HL (hit location) deck that will send it charging forward, dragging those along with it. A wise player might check to see what's in its HL discard pile, before hedging their bets on where to attack the monster from. For example, lets say that every other survivor is currently knocked down and there are currently no such cards in the discard, making the lions surge forward highly likely. The player could, on purpose, decide to attack it from the front, knowing that the lion will drag them away and knock them down. By tanking the reaction and going down, we now move into the White Lions turn with every survivor knocked down. Most of its AI cards will look for threats, and when it can't find them, it will perform its instinct "Sniff" instead of attacking. Thus, you have just turned a potentially high damage AI card, into a sniff, simply by hedging your bets and letting the White Lion drag you away from everyone with drag.
Of course... you COULD be unlucky and the monster might draw one of its few cards that specifically go for knocked down survivors.
The system does not make the "best choice" an obvious one. And I've seen many games where a table of players have suggested many different plans. Granted, when a lucky critical wound knocks the monster down early in the fight, I would very much advise any players in range to burn their survival to dash and into position and take advantage of it.
Has it been said when rewards were added during Black Friday sales would be shipped?
Say I backed during the kickstarter, then during a sale added the lonely tree- would it ship with my other expansions?
If you backed during the KS, your bits will ship during the various KS phases, regardless of when you upped your pledges. The Black Friday phases are for people that jumped into KD:M by buying one of the Black Friday package deals
endtransmission wrote: If you backed during the KS, your bits will ship during the various KS phases, regardless of when you upped your pledges. The Black Friday phases are for people that jumped into KD:M by buying one of the Black Friday package deals
Alright, I just noticed that the stuff I added later was never added to my main pledge, so I don't know if that's normal or if I need to send an email.
You know... for those questioning the validity of a $400 core game. Value is often a subjective thing, but I know that I and friends have spent more, for less, and suffered immense buyers remorse in the past.
For instance, someone wanting the new Lego Dimensions videogame will find it launching in September for $100 base-game, plus over $475 in "DLC" add-ons, on its very first day. That entire "experience" might provide 30hrs of gameplay.
Now, I find that a horrific value proposition, but I know friends with children, and Lego enthusiasts who find that exciting and have preorders in.
As I see it... Kingdom Death seems to be as close to a dungeon-master-less RPG as my group of friends and I will ever get. No one wants to DM, and everyone wants to play a long campaign/narrative based game with meaningful plot decisions, etc... For us, this game's value actually looks good.
Hm, I didn't back for the main game. I just got the exclusive survivors, armor packs, and some expansions. I might actually get most of my stuff before my brother for once.
I'm not sure the $400 starter MSRP affects me. I backed for the game, and plenty of expansions. Enough to keep me busy for a year (or more!).
I shudder to think what I've spent on Skylanders, but the difference is that it's been piecemeal over the past few years, versus a one-time lump sum payment.
Reading Poots' combat descriptions makes me satisfied that I'm basically getting Monster Hunter: The Tabletop Experience wrapped in a much darker looking package.

It had sold out- it's back up. Comes with the 2 lantern exclusives as well.
Adam is not putting out an 'offical' email for it as picking and packing 100s of these will prevent them concentrating on the picking and packing of the KS stuff
the original idea was only to have it up briefly, then wait until after all the KS stuff was done with for a full release
but I guess there were so many email requests about where it had gone he's decided on a 'soft release' with no fanfare, those who really, really want it immediately will find it and everybody else will be none the wiser (and since they won't sell out no risk of newsletter subscribers missing out)
I believe he said he started running tournaments Saturday/Sunday.
This is the case.
I was running the gaming area in hall C pretty much all weekend. Didn't realize we had any KD in the booth.

They were easy enough to miss. They were on the floor beneath the Rum & Bones Display in a cardboard box. It would have been easy enough to glance at it and assume it was displays that weren't put out.
Am I right in thinking that a few people got to demo a showdown phase with the Phoenix? I can't seem to find any write ups/ comments about it. Getting one direct from the KDM store and getting it shipped to the UK is rather expensive.

Getting it shipped from NY to PA is expensive - I don't know who he is using to ship, but it is at least double what sending it standard mail would be.

Didn't do the White Lion demo- but the Phoenix had a lot of "push" attacks. It was also quite capable of one-shotting survivors. We did benefit from our characters not starting out aged- after every round if a character had a doom counter they would age. It was beneficial for us since they essentially got wiser and stronger, but I we had been older when we started thy would have gotten weaker and could age into dust eventually.
Lots of insanity being lost and gained. Any armor the characters had was eventually destroyed- and then the survivor dead. It was a lot who positioning too. Dashing into the Eye of the Storm(blind spots) of the. Phoenix's wind attacks, or dashing in from of the tree or a fallen pillar to avoid being pushed out of range. Trying to bait the Phoenix into attacking healthier survivors.
The. Phoenix also had several other time-based abilities for flavor- certain hits would cause it to "rewind" the round:removing all damage and all other successful attacks it sustained, so we'd have to hit the location that knocked the survivor down before that attack went off to prevent it from striking or praying for a crit to ignore it; and stopping time: where it would "disappear" and reappear somewhere else on the board.

Can't say that's not an apt comparison from what we know. Thanks! Evermore shall Stormcast Eternals come to mind when imagining the fate of brave souls lost in Kingdom Death.
Glad to hear they're not copy-paste encounters. Even in the two Lion demos I watched, things certainly seemed different enough to prevent them from being less than entertaining.
I suppose that makes some sense. If we're going to be dying a lot, then presumably we'll be running into the same encounter trying to kill the same creature previous not-quite-survivors failed to defeat. That being very repetitive would suck.
KD:M is basically Monster Hunter : the board game.
And there is nothing wrong with that.
I am a little disappointed that KD:M doesn't appear to be "classing" the characters like MH, especially with the way Adam was adding things to the sprues, but maybe that's OK.
That was rumored, although I think I'd be potentially more interested in KD : Knights.
By the end of the KD:M fulfillment, I will be swimming in (human) Heroes. 4 each from over a dozen armor "kits". That'll be plenty.
However, I will only have a handful of Knights (Lion Knight, Flower Knight, etc.). Additional minor expansions of KD Knights would be welcome!
Besides, it's not like there won't be new pinups along with a new Monster or two.

Right, but I think that it would have been nice if there were a defined set of core weapon classes that were on each sprue, so that you could always have a Bow character, a Sword & Shield character, a Lance character, etc. The grid is probably overcomplicated, but we'll see.

The Grid System seems to remind me of a combination of 'Set' armors in Diablo and herb mixing in Resident Evil (if you are at all familiar with those franchises). Having certain color blocks line up in specific combinations grants you specific bonuses. It's all about maximizing your layout to get the most benefits you can, while not sacrificing good items someone else could make better use of in their own grid.

It did seem to me during the Phoenix demo that we were wearing at least partially themed armor sets. I think one of us had a White Lion set with claws. I had a heavy all Leather set with a Giant Zambato. One had virtually no armor, but had fancy speed boots and clairvoyant rings. And the last I really don't remember but maybe Sinful can fill me in on it.

You were basically a "tank" with sword and board, and mostly complete armor set. I had the bow, almost no armor, and the a Screaming Helmet that let me see the top 3 of the Hit Location deck once per game- my role was basically reliable damage with high accuracy. Guy across from you was dual wielding and was basically our "DPS". Guy across from me was more balanced, with 2 different one handers(iirc) and the rings that allowed him to manipulate the attack deck.
Actually there are "fighting styles" you can get- I believe our DPS had one that allowed him to crit on 9's as well as 10's. I drew one when I aged(and I think you did too, or the guy across from me did), which increased my strength on crits.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Ah! The guy across from me had a fighting style that allowed him to regain a survival point whenever he used one on a 6+.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Also every survivor can fight tooth and claw, so even if your weapon breaks you aren't completely defenseless. It doesn't do much, and has a low strength, but it's better than nothing.
And I will agree with MrChurch13 that "classes" are defined by gear alone, and there may be a few fighting styles that help out too. Some are probably better for certain equipment than others- for example the extra strength bonus on crits was mostly wasted on me, since my bow already had near max strength. It would have been a lot more beneficial to basically anyone but me with the gear I had.
Each survivor is basically a blank slate that your equipment and fighting styles add to.
Mr.Church13 wrote: That whole blank slate thing is a huge selling point for me actually.

Considering he's dropping some WIP's and unknown models it's likely he's the real deal. I'll rehost and post in a couple of hours if someone doesn't beat me to it.
We have a warehouse in the AU. However small rewards (pinups, promos, etc) will be shipped from our office in the states. We are currently picking and packing those orders now.
So we're each looking at 2-3 packages - core game, which is going to local warehouses, small rewards for extras and pinups, and then expansions at a later date.
*sigh* there's a tiny voice in my head wailing "is it here yet is it here yet is it here yet"

That quote + the overall themes + the rules will be enjoyable and fun but far from the "simplification and standardization" that some people want/need means that this game was probably destined to remain is some sort of 'Boutique' category.
But that's probably OK and it will still probably sell really well too.
KD and Adam has got its own "Superfans", to steal a phrase!

I have been looking at KD:M as a boutique game for the past couple years, although I do believe that the game "got away" from Adam during the development, and I do believe the game would have been better with a product manager / editor to winnow things down. But none of that matters, because the game is what it is, and it's on the boat. I'm looking forward to finally receiving KD:M.
" Dice, Promos, Armor Kits, Pinups and your T-Shirts, are all being shipped from our office in NY. It was the only way to make these complicated pick & pack orders fit into our budget. Warehouses charge per pick, usually around 0.50 - 2.00 depending on the place and your deal with them. I also trust us internally to get this right much more so then I do with an external company."

The Gorm expansion, for example, has rules for you to incorporate it into a campaign two different ways. 1, by simply adding its intro story event to your next year on the timeline. 2. It does not replace anything, its merely added. Your settlement may hunt it, or anything else that is available to them."

Otherwise I would say, anytime I get to clear other work away and get back to creating. I still just love that part!"
Aaaand we're off. Emails have started going out for the first round of shipping. Sadly just some extras like the White Speaker and Messengers rather than the actual game... but it is a start!
May our US colleagues take many many photos to show us what we are waiting for (I'm sure the US is going to go first to make sure everything is running smoothly as its a lot cheaper to fix mistakes for them)
They seem to be shipping smallest orders first as the emails so far are for one or two figures so there may be some RoW orders slipping out... who knows. We shall see as people report mails on KS
Yeah, mine confirmed a Dragon Sacrifice pinup + the White Speaker (2 models total).
I'm not sure what's going on with the Twilight Knight we're supposed to get (one per backer for any physical goods), and I'm wondering if it'll be bundled with the Game.
Oh. Here's a copy of one of the emails that got posted on BGG
Hello Bakcer,
Thank you so much for your patience and support. Your Kingdom Death: Monster kickstarter small reward box is on its way!
Your small reward box includes:
1 x White Speaker: Plastic
1 x Messenger of the Spiral Path (kss_6)
Your small reward box, does not include core games, survivor level rewards or expansions.
You will get a separate email notifying you when that ships.
It may take up to a week for the tracking number provided below to be live.
Your package will be delivered via FedEx SmartPost
Tracking Number: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Promo Rules
The challenge scenarios and associated cards will be provided via PDF November, 2015. Printed versions will be made available at a later date.
Make sure to be as descriptive as you can and to include your backer email or pledge ID # as it will help us help you faster.
Thank you,
- Adam Poots
It looks like the rules and challenges are being held back until later to avoid any spoilers. I would guess the printed versions will ship with the expansions
I got an email for a white speaker and a t-shirt today.
Which was odd, since I don't remember ordering either one of those items, my pledge manager receipt doesn't mention them, and I didn't get a survivor pledge (they were never able to bump me from base game to the next pledge level).
I guess I'll wait and see what ends up arriving.
Weird. Maybe it was just a generic letter that went out to everyone for whatever small items are shipping? I know I got a few messengers.
Adams time management skills seem so bad... I guess im not a business but why would you spend so much time and money packing 1 sprue and a t-shirt to mail out to some 5,000 people.
Chopxsticks wrote: Adams time management skills seem so bad... I guess im not a business but why would you spend so much time and money packing 1 sprue and a t-shirt to mail out to some 5,000 people.
Because those were made in-house through his normal resin production, iirc.
As for why people are getting these... they were a standard add-on to a certain tier of pledge. I didn't order the shirt or White Speaker either, and am likewise getting some apparently. :-)
Im not even sure what pledge level the white speaker is from, and I was unaware it was resin? but why not send this stuff with survivor level bonuses or something.. I just seems counter productive to spend so much time and money to mail out such few items when you have SO much more to send, you could have packed it in with that.
The White Speaker is plastic, and it goes to everybody.
It probably should have been bundled with the Twilight Knight, and shipped with the Game Expansions (pick & pack), but stuff is shipping, so there we go.
My understanding is that Poots is using this to test his fulfillment service. You send out lots of small packages that don't cost much to ship and then wait to see how many mistakes your people made.
This way, when he's shipping the big box that costs a lot of money to send out, he's already fixed the predictable problems and has fewer errors. When you're shipping this many packages it makes sense to ship extra packages to ensure the giant box that costs tons of money to ship doesn't have to be shipped twice because your people screwed up.
I thought small rewards were being shipped worldwide from here in the states and it was the core game and other rewards which were being shipped from the global warehouses.

I think Adam will confirm his shipping strategy in the next Update, whenever that may be.
Based on other KS, yes, it appears Adam is shipping smallest (actually "easiest", as in fewest different line items) first, domestic US first. This is how most new KS start shipping while they learn how to ship effectively. This is a "normal" way for KS to ship lots of stuff quickest, saving the messy, complex things for last.
That said, I would hope the otherwise identical Game boxes are shipped in order of pledging.
____
For the Twilight Knight, it does not appear that any other backers are having theirs shipped, so I think we take that as a sign the TK will ship in a later wave.
Dentry wrote: As someone that switched pledge levels (from Survior to BF Survivor) towards the end, I'm not so in love with that idea.
Backer number doesn't change when you switch level. Only if you cancel your pledge and re-back. I did the same thing (managed to get the $129 cheapest one as well).
All this talk of Backer Numbers made me go look - #73 here!
I really don't think that will matter in terms of what ships when though - more likely the more you ordered, and the more complex your order means the later you'll ship!
A big list (Maybe?) will show up - click on Kingdom Death - a pop up window of sorts will appear and your backer number will be in the middle, about half-way down!

Is it the number next to the gear like icon?
If so, #11. Oh yeah. Wait, where's my mail then?!?!
I'm at number... 1711. Oh well. I'm still super excited that we're finally getting even a small part of our pledges. Will the individual, free, non-pinup figures like the white speaker and twilight knight be coming with rules & cards? I was thinking they wouldn't, but with all the updates and upgrades I might have missed something.
Alpharius wrote: All this talk of Backer Numbers made me go look - #73 here!

Wave 1: Adam is shipping small boxes now - for that, complexity matters, which is why he's doing 1s and 2s first.
Wave 2: Next up are Game boxes (only). Those are all the same. Identical. There is no difference in complexity. Just slap a label on the box (like Journey), and you're done.
Wave 3: Finally are the expansions and whatnot - for that, complexity rears its ugly head again. There is (should be!) probably a HoD sub-pack to keep the box count down, but this is still on a per-backer basis.
For Wave 2, specifically, Adam could do that in backer order without any change in difficulty or effort.
K, got a few mins before I pass out. I'll try to answer the obvious stuff.
1. The next update, will be posted when I am ready. Sorry everyone, its gotta be facts and every duck must be in a row. Its vital to manage expectations.
2. We have started to test our internal system and work flow for wave 1 fulfillment.
3. The Twilight Knight is included in the survivor level reward box, which is shipping with wave 2.
4. Resin Beta Backers will get the core game early and have exclusive access to an online FAQ and living glossary we have built. They will be instructed to help us vet these in time for when general fulfillment hits. I am still waiting on those advance units to arrive.
5. Don't go to eBay.
6. I decided not to print the challenge scenario / promo rules and cards yet. We will deliver them once the community has actually had a chance to play the game via PDF. Following that I'd like to 'master them' and then do a nice print run of all that stuff.
I think thats about it? Let me know what else ails you, and I will try to get to it before my eyes fall out of my head! go go go!
And on shipping order
so far we have only done domestics. Once we have our workflow down, I might switch us over to international since those will spend more time in transit. Then return to domestic. There is... a lot of stuff. nearly 40,000 picks across 5,500 backer boxes. (Yes, the number is correct as funny as that is.)
No one at the office is letting me fulfill by backer ID#, its far too inefficient and would make the process drag out for another 2 weeks or so. Instead we are being "smart (whatever!)" and packing by common groups, starting with lower number count boxes and working our way up to the high count ones.

Nice.
Still boned if it's based on number of items. Ordered almost everything like many of you here.
Also, had to check eBay after he said not to. Hahaha.
While I would have liked a quick 3 paragraph Update to cover the immediate questions, it's good that Adam popped in to answer them at all. I'm satisfied for the time being.
He's an optimist. Ebay is going to be flooded with bits from this by people looking to turn a profit. It'll be a flippin' feeding frenzy. Look what happened after the gencon exclusive...
It's still happening. Right now. Completely baffles me that people are actually selling them on eBay when, as Adam points out, they're available direct from KD for less.
I swear I pledged pretty early on, before Barzam I thought.
Still not sure what I've actually got coming!
I was under the impression you got everything and if there was anything you didn't get, I've got it covered. I know I went in at the $30 pledge level, but added on a bunch of stuff. I also know that you added a Slenderman into your order for me. I look forward to figuring out what I'm going to do with him.

It just might take a bit to hear back from them though.
this one was free if you backed the KS and got physical product
so you'll get her (maybe the spues are actually coming over with the game boxes and none of the orders with in will ship till they arrive or maybe the way Adam has set up the logistic means this gift will ship with the expansion orders)
this was an optional buy in, rather than a freebie
so if you paid for her you'll get her (maybe none of the orders with her in have shipped yet, maybe the spues are actually coming over with the game boxes and none of the orders with in will ship till they arrive or again maybe the she's set to go out with the expasions)

Everybody is supposed to get one:

The pinup / reversal Twilight Knight should be shipping now, but so should the "free to all" Twilight Knight as they are shipping the "free to all" White Speaker.
The confusion is because of the "free" White Speaker, and raises the question about the "free" Twilight Knight.
Hopefully, Adam didn't forget about the "free" Twilight Knight...

"Cut the guy some slack"... I guess you don't really know much about the industry and MIKH. I am really not surprised at all that it's been put on hold, and it's just like all the other projects MIKH is involved in, unfortunately.
I started by noting that "it's been (at least) 3 years," so I might be aware of a few things.
I just know that he managed to finish the one sculpt for Blood Rage, and that he isn't holding up that train - in sharp break from expectations when his name was mentioned as the sculptor. ____
(or was it Conan? - I pledged both, and they're very similar - sorry for the confusion).
How did you guys resist the temptation to order MOAR?!?
I think I'll eventually (soon?) be getting a notice saying the following are shipping to me:
T-Shirt
Promo: Holiday White Speaker Nico
Promo: Candy and Cola
Promo: Kara Black
Messenger of Courage
Messenger of the Spiral Path
Messenger of the First Story
Messenger of Humanity
Rawhide Dame: Plastic
Phoenix Dancer: Plastic
Primal Huntress: Plastic
Sunstalker Dancer: Plastic
Twilight Witch: Plastic
Lantern Festival: Plastic
Spider Silk Assassin: Plastic
Allison the Twilight Knight: Plastic
Unless...anything with 'plastic' in it is shipping later?

If they're using the "small boxes first" approach, then I'm probably not toward the front of the line. Which is fine so long as the timing doesn't coincide with my travel plans next month - it will, that's how life works.

I pledged for the Game, added more Expansions bumping up to Herald, and stopped there. $300 was plenty enough for me, given my tolerance for risk against my overall gaming budget.
I spent way too much, but i doubt i'll regret it. I would have wasted that money on something like rent anyways. At least $1000+ in KD will last me more than the single month's rent.
I'd say wait until it arrives, and until we have an actual update from Adam.
if things have gone wrong he'll fix it, but emails sent now are unlikely to get a quick answer especially ones that are about orders that havn't arrived/shipped
you'll probably be able to arrange swaps for at least some of it when everything arrives with both sides delighted not to have to try ebay to pick up what they forgot
I pledge for a few of them and don't have anything listed.
Did anyone get an email saying they were?
I got confirmation of mine being sent out. They may just be sending out what they have right now, or sending only the Messenger of Courage, or one of a million different things. I think Orlando has the right idea on this one, just wait til your box arrives before panicking.
For what it's worth I got my shipping confirmation yesterday for White Speaker, Holiday White Speaker and a shirt. I have no idea what else I ordered its been so long. Other than "a ton".
Assuming they're sending packages in increasing order of items. That would mean if you have a ton of "small rewards", then you're at the back of the line so they can get the simpler packages shipped out first.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you ordered the base game, then it's coming in Phase 2 (not right now). The shipping orders people are getting right now are the standalone non-game extras such as pinups.

More Pinups=Longer wait. If you had a small order, just wait until he announces they've all been shipped out before you panic. Adam and company are good people; you'll get what you paid for.

I see now, and that's totally cool. I am fine with the wait, I was just a bit worried that I had somehow been forgotten. :(
I'd think it will take a lot longer than a week for them to get through all of this with over 5000 backers most of whom will have picked up at least one item that will ship in this wave
often my orders from the web store re-stocks which are usually under 1500 items, broken up amongst 3-4 minis (so since lots of people buy multiples probably 800+ individual orders) take 2-3 weeks or so to ship
so even with extra staff (which they may or may not have taken on, as new people make mistakes) I'd think a month at least to get all the stuff out the door if not longer
(sigh, and I picked up so many pinups & bits I'm not going to be anywhere near the front of the list)
Bromsy posted his shipping email in the ks thread which has several new items on

Whether or not it sucks is pretty relative.
I can tell you, from seeing it first hand, that the contents certainly warrant the rather high price tag. There's a lot of "stuff" there.
I thought the original planned contents in pvc would have been worth $100 even if the game was not great
with the switch to HIP, the modularity, the extra plastic content and all the art in that lovely looking rule book I think $275 is worth it, again even if the game is not great
but from all I've seen/heard I think the game will be pretty good too so may even represent good value at the full price of $400
anab0lic wrote: Just Jumped in on the $275 pre order deal, thats still running on their website, this thing better not suck, pretty large investment for me.
I hear you on that. I feel rather antsy whenever I drop more than $100 on anything that I don't have in hand.
In the case of KD:M, I think $275 isn't a bad price even if you just consider the models & Monsters - very nicely detailed polystyrene, so even as a HUGE modeling project, it's pretty fair. Plus, everything else (board, components, rulebook, etc.) looks to be strikingly beautiful. Gameplay seems to be OK from the reports and demos.
Whilst I obviously can't comment on the gameplay (!), having got the other plastic so far released, I'm confident the models alone make it value (though off I acknowledge for many, if the game doesn't cut it, that's not a good deal).
From what you've seen so far, what do you like - and what don't you like?
I like that it seems like it will be Mordheim-like, with the player's primary focus on the Campaign for managing the Settlement and Heroes (warband) between the fights.
I like that the showdown battles, etc. are relatively straightforward and uncomplicated. Players seem to mostly fight 1 Monster in the battle with a straightforward AI deck, so there's not a lot of mental effort on whomever plays the Monster, compared to having to DM an anti-party (current D&D) or a horde of monsters (Super Dungeon Explore). Seems somewhat streamlined, with the hit location die vs dealing with tables of some sort, I-go-U-go to maximize party options and strategizing.
I am concerned that the game is overly lethal, but maybe we're not supposed to carry a single character along like D&D?
I don't like the use of straight d10s compared to custom d6s (like the hit location die) or even regular d6s, but I get the point of being different. Custom d6s generally speed things along.
That limited number is what makes the settlements so lethal.
Combine it with the fact that yo8ur pretty much nakked in the dark..... with nothing but your stick/ stone shard.... THAT is what's going to make the appeal.
Im still excited about this game as much as I was when I first jumped in with both feet. I've got like 1 expansion left to get in on, and the games a wrap.

You may not carry the same person/character over but when they die you will be able to bring back their equipment to hand out to the new character. The only thing you will lose is any experience/fighting Arts/Disorders that the previous character had.
No one player controls the monster, each turn a different player flips the AI deck and resolves the action(s). I'm concerned it might lead to gaming the system when players can choose which character they want the Monster to hit but I'm sure that will be covered once we have the game in our hands.
I'm a Demon's Souls fan so I enjoy the tough, tactical element of the game. YMMV

Well firstly, that seems completely realistic behaviour for a party to have a strategy to use the equipment they have most effectively, seems a feature not an issue to me.
Secondly, if it turns out to be something you don't like, I'm sure you can house rule in some restrictions on communication during encounters.

Based on the interviews and demos, if there are multiple valid targets you can assign dice values and roll. Not sure it's a rule so much as a speed thing for GenCon. Still, you could incorporate that as a formal rule if you had to, though I would say someone who was forcing you to use such a thing doesn't really understand what "cooperative" means.
As Baragash said I think the "gaming" of the system is what Adam intends as "strategy"; the monsters have predictable behaviors that can be exploited (i.e. - gamed) and gambling on what their likely behavior will be is how you succeed. For example in one interview Adam mentions that the White Lion has many AI cards that don't target knocked-down survivors and many attacks that knock them down. There are ways to use that to try and knock down your "damage dealers" while your "tank" survivor is left as the only one standing and thus the only valid target. There are however other cards that do a lot of damage to knocked-down survivors so that strategy isn't an "I win" button so much as a calculated risk.
From the sound of it, that's the core experience of the game; how do you gamble on these calculated risks knowing that in general the odds are against you? High speed weapons are the same deal; more chances to hit, more chances to spring a trap. You HAVE to take some of those gambles, because you can't just farm weak creatures and survive the end-boss, but gamble wrong often enough and you settlement will be wiped out before you get there.
It's almost like Rogue/FTL/etc. blended with Monster Hunter on a tabletop, which is as awesome-sounding of an experience as it was when I backed it lo these many months ago. Can't wait for my large-small box to ship with it's I think dozen or so models.

Well firstly, that seems completely realistic behaviour for a party to have a strategy to use the equipment they have most effectively, seems a feature not an issue to me.
Secondly, if it turns out to be something you don't like, I'm sure you can house rule in some restrictions on communication during encounters.
The lion isn't equipment so how does your strategy comment apply? My 'issue' is that the survivors could intentionally pick the most healthy/tanky of multiple survivors to take the hit in order to increase their chances of all of them surviving.

General priority for monsters is the person who last damaged them, so yes it is considered into gameplay you can choose who the monster will most likely attack.
On the other hand, if they whiff the other survivors who damaged the monster will be more likely to be attacked. Also they could target specific survivors with their attack completely ignoring the priority.
It's part of the design of the game the survivors choose everything when there are options- such as the Pheonix's teleport. He goes into general patterns- the survivors choose exactly where he goes, usually choosing an advantageous position for them. Or two survivors have equal priority they choose who gets attacked.
They need everthing they can get because the game is so lethal.
Shipping has progressed to what seems mid-sized orders. I just got my shipping notice for the small items. I ordered all the promos with rules and none of the pinups (ten figures and the T-shirt).
Like others my list is missing the free Twilight Knight and the free Snow the Savior on the email. Amusingly it still had the "Hello Bakcer" typo.
I thought they started jumping around and soon doing some international and then back to domestic. At the rate in which this is taking them I really doubt they will get the core box to people in October like they claim.
the core box is being shipped by a fulfilment company or fulfilment companies as there are at least a site in the US and a site in the EU... maybe one for Australasia I'm not certaoi n on that one (as there is no complexity for them to get wrong)
so it's only whether the boats are on time and whether customs sits on things that will hold that up
(but I'm pretty sure the Wave 1 stuff Adam and co are handling themselves is going to take at least till the end of September or later to finish)
Got my package. Am I officially the first backer to receive a mispack? There was no White Speaker in my package, even though she was listed in my email.
I'm just in town for two days between visiting relatives, so I may not have time for pictures. If I get a chance when the kid is asleep, I'll post them along with my thoughts.
Got my notice today as well. "Only" 8 items plus the shirt, so we may be reaching the end of USA shipping if they made it from there to 13 in the same day.

Are Resin's not being shipped as part of Wave1? Looked at what I ordered and the only thing I added on that was not an expansion was the Resin Beyond the Wall. No notice or t-shirt for me yet, so I'm assuming the resins are going out with the main box or the expansions.
I've only assembled the pin-ups in my KD lifetime, but I found there were sufficient pictures on the webstore to identify everything, it even seemed like the understood which models were harder as those ones had multiple views - such as the Forsaker.
I'm OK with being of the last to ship... especially if they decide to go international before tackling the most intense orders. I think there are only 2 pinups on my small rewards... it's all of the promos and extras I tacked on for others. I'll see if I can find the list.
The thing is I dont recall having nearly as much stuff as the other people and I still have no confirmation order. All I did was a survivor pledge and one of each expansion. I should not be getting much. Its now rolling into Sept and no notification of my wave 1 stuff =/ I hope they are bouncing around the orders
Some of these figures are close to 20 pieces, some of them minuscule Malifaux levels of tiny!
That's because the part breakdown and molds were designed by the same company that does Malifaux (Wargames Factory)!
Wyrd has made WGF dial back a bit with recent releases, but the kits right before the V2 switch over got a bit out of hand. If you want to compare KDM models with the worst/best of Malifaux (depending on your perspective), google the trouble and woe that is "yan lo's beard".
All I have are the kings men (my white speaker was Mantic'ed), but from what I can see the quality is top tier. The details are finer and more delicate than on most plastic miniatures, perhaps sculpted for a more subtle medium, but they are sharp and delightful. The only HIPS artifacts I can see are some slight blurring on the hair-finger-wings on the right shoulder and one of the greaves where there might have been a minuscule undercut on the original sculpt. The mold lines were noticibly larger than on Dreamforge minis, but still small and easily scraped off.
Distracted, Kingdom Death, 54mm, few minor conversions and changes. I decided to change the aspect of the model a bit and make it more lovecraftian/occult
In my experience, Kingdom Death items I want will be restocked as soon as I fall asleep, and be sold out when I wake up. Alternately, when I leave for work to be sold by the time I get to work. It's a vicious catch-22 because if you stop sleeping and/or working, that just means they'll never go on sale; the Pootsian loop (which sounds worse than what it's describing, somehow).
I'm still in a holding pattern for my boxen shipping notice, but since I dimly recall ordering one of everything that doesn't surprise me. It's exciting to see what people are getting though so thanks to Bob and the others for sharing...even if the jealousy factor means I hate you all so very, very much right now.
Chopxsticks wrote: When should I become worried that I have not received a shipping notice? while People with far larger orders than mine have already..
Probably just the T and the white speaker, thats why I was concerned because I was under the assumption that they did all the small orders and worked there way up. It appears they did some small and some large and then finishing them all?

May just send yours with wave 3 if that's all you have. Did you check your address? If it's correct, I might send an email.
Ya thats why I was mildly concerned. I had heard on the kickstarter forum though that they were testing a little of everything, like Domestic small and large, then international and back to domestic. So I wasnt sure.
I'm in the same boat as you Chopxsticks. Survivor pledge and expansions. No pinups or promos. No notice on any shipping either, so I was just assuming they were going to be in a later wave.
Amazing customer service from Adam. Just opened a support ticket asking about wave 1 shipping and got a reply in less than 5 minutes. Here it is
"We have separated all rewards into smaller “buckets”. So everyone that has a resin miniature in their reward list, will all be picked and packed in the same group. We have yet to pack any rewards with resins yet, as we are still working our way through our first bucket, “domestic with no resins and no armor kits”. "
I have a single resin in my add-ons, which explains why my small wave1 hasn't shipped.
Didn't realize there's a thigh piece for the white speaker. Whoops. Went back and stuck it in before things dried.
Her loincloth is tiny and her cape thing was annoying to get to set correctly.
She looks cool now that she's done though.
What are you all doing with the bases? There's the scenic one, and then the larger base with the KD logo on the bottom of it that the scenic sits inside of.
The White Speaker demands a full-on scenic base, not just a bit of plastic to stand on (though having the piece is nice, since it's presumably the correct height); I'll be using a lipped base for Candy + Cola so she matches the other Relic Knights.
Well I'm impatient as hell and couldn't wait to figure out what I wanted to use for a scenic base, so I said to hell with it and built my toys.
Spoiler:
The Guts styled guy with a giant sword is quite large and quite awesome. He may end up being a hero type character in other games I've got.
The fact that they're all the size of a Sigmarite captain and are a good head or two taller than Deneghra and the other human sized figures should probably be noted if you want them hanging out with normal human sized figures.
Let my terrible painting commence!
Spoilered so as to not pour salt in the wounds of those who haven't gotten their stuff yet.
Groo...based on that support ticket if the "loose" armor kits are included I'll be waiting a while. I have more than a couple of those coming as I may...MAY have gone a bit overboard on a couple of those in the pledge manager...
Still, since that will give me the options to make lots and lots of KD models...I regret nothing!

Mmm. That's too good. I love that they're so 'huge'. Good work, Highlord Tamburlaine.
Gonna have to see what inspiration says when building & basing time comes. Might have to purchase the Vallejo Model set that's on sale just for this.

Its stuff like this that I wish he would just post an update and address. I dont understand why he is so dense and just refuses to communicate..
EDIT: looking over the site again, I really do regret not ordering any pinups..

Wave 3?
What's in Wave 3?
I thought there was only Wave 1 (the small stuff, via Adam in the USA), Wave 1 A (the game box, via China) and then Wave 2 (all the expansions)?
No one player controls the monster, each turn a different player flips the AI deck and resolves the action(s). I'm concerned it might lead to gaming the system when players can choose which character they want the Monster to hit but I'm sure that will be covered once we have the game in our hands.
This was covered in the demo I got at Gencon.
Each encounter, one player is nominated to be the Monster Controller. He should still have a hero, since most of the time, the monster controller doesn't make any choices at all- (the AI deck does all of that- I don't think we once picked a target for the monster except by placing some of our heroes in its blind spot, or in its path).
However, the grid map with no diagonals often gives you two or more equally short paths to a target hero- and the monster controller chooses which way it will go.
The designer who demoed the game for us assumed that you'll use this to your advantage. We had the lion charge in a way that did not plow through our other characters- but that was the only time we got to make any significant choices about monster behavior.
I thought there was only Wave 1 (the small stuff, via Adam in the USA), Wave 1 A (the game box, via China) and then Wave 2 (all the expansions)?
Somewhere in the comments, Adam described the waves like this
- "wave 1" = pinups & dice (via Adam, in the US)
- "wave 2" = the Game (via various distributors)
- "wave 3" = expansions (via Adam, in the US)
Right now, wave 1 is like this:
1.1. US plastic pinups & dice (+ T-shirts & White Speaker); smallest to largest
1.2 international pinups & dice (+ T-shirts & White Speaker)
1.3 resins...
It is not clear whether international or resins will follow the same pattern of smallest to largest, but I would suspect it will, as Adam basically doubles the pick complexity by adding various resins to the things people can choose from.
Wave 2 will be simple.
Wave 3 will likely go smallest to largest, US then international as well
Of course, a quick update would be nice, even though it is obvious that Adam & team are heads down working at the moment.
from facebook, it looks like in response to a bunch of messages

Quick Wave 1 Shipping Clarifications
We are currently packing “Small Reward Boxes” in our office. We wanted to take some extra time before making an official update to ensure our process was in order. Adam will make a bigger Kickstarter update when he is ready.
- First and foremost, we are still troubleshooting our process. Our office has been converted to a mail room and all hands are on deck to ensure everyone gets their rewards in a timely fashion with as little screw ups on our part as possible (they just cost us time and money, both of which are tight!). There will be mistakes, so just bare with us. Wait until your order arrives and then submit a ticket to support@kingdomdeath.zendesk.com for help.
- Survivor Level backers get t-shirts, as do Resin Beta Backers that upgraded their pledge to include a survivor. Extra survivor units, added via the pledge manager do not get t-shirts, nor do any black Friday backers from 2014. This was clearly indicated on the pledge manager and also on our store during the black Friday promotions (we ran out of shirts!).
- Backers getting physical rewards, will get a White Speaker and Twilight Knight gift, on a per pledge basis.
- White Speakers are being packed by us with wave 1 small reward boxes.
- Twilight Knights are included in survivor level reward boxes that are shipping during wave 2, with the core game. There was a factory mix up, that's where they ended up. Not a big deal.
- Backers that did not get a survivor level reward, are getting their Twilight Knights now during wave 1. We are aware of many packages from day 1 and 2 that went out without them. We are on it. Don’t worry about it.
Thanks!!!
Got my email, too. 21 models + T-shirt.
I knew I ordered a lot, but it's been so long I don't really remember everything. I think I went for pretty much one of everything?

21?
Did you get doubles of anything?
I remember there were a few pin-ups I didn't like, but I still ended up with 16 models, apparently!
I went with everything that had game content + anything I liked the look of.
Nope, no doubles. Here's the list from the email I got:

I got most of that - I skipped the Dragon Sacrifice, Leather Queen, Beyond the Wall and the Watcher - I am thinking that's a resin 'Watcher' as we're all getting a Watcher in plastic, right?
I just finished my Messenger of Courage (naturally painting her sword up like the Master Sword), when I noticed the text in the center of the bottom of the base.

Spoiler:
Have the bases always said that? Cute.
They have at least since the 2nd version of the forsaker I got in a sale a couple of years ago. Knew nothing about the series/project back then, and I thought it was rather arrogant at the time!
I received my white speaker Nico and the holiday promo version of her just a few days ago. But, I was curious - the kickstarter said Holiday Nico came with a special event card. I received only the figure itself. Before I send an inquiry to them, did anyone else who ordered Holiday Nico get the event card?

this bit on info was included on the shipping notice of a number of people who've posted
"Promo Rules
The challenge scenarios and associated cards will be provided via PDF November, 2015. Printed versions will be made available at a later date."
I got mine, and it feels like a really weird order. I received no t-shirt, for example, but ended up getting stuff I didn't order.
I ended up with
-Anna and Adam Explorers of Death
-White Speaker Nico
-A fur-clad girl I have no idea of who she is... :-p She has a dagger and her foot up on a block of some kind?
I didn't order the last item, to be sure as I skipped all pinups.

Also that seems a handy thing to have in this thread for general reference too...found it linked on the old fan pledge calculator but I'm not sure who to properly attribute the effort to.
