Umm... really? It's right there in black and white:

"This was a decision made based on the designers preference of terminator armour for the unit, As the Tartaros and Cataphactii patterns of armour are so different from each other we could not create a kit that would suit both types without having two separate kits.

...

We cannot assume a customer already owns or had set out to purposefully purchase a set of cataphractii terminator armour to upgrade into Sehkmet Terminators."

Seems like a perfectly reasonable and well-thought-out answer.

Why would they have to make a Tartaros version? I just want to buy upgrade kits for the Cataphractii I already have. It seems irrelevant unless they're saying that customers are too stupid to build them with the right plastic kit.

And as for not assuming that customers already have the plastic kit - that's not what I'm asking them to do. I'm not saying don't sell a complete kit. I'm saying they shouldn't assume either way, and give us the option, just like they did with the Occult Blades.

There are plenty of people that have Cataphractii kits from the Calth box and were hoping for an upgrade kit. I'm not the only one whose money they're turning away.

That's not what they're saying.

They're saying that the kit only works with the Caraphracti version and... well, again, black and white:

"We cannot assume a customer already owns or had set out to purposefully purchase a set of cataphractii terminator armour to upgrade into Sehkmet Terminators."

As it only works with one specific kit they just put that kit with the upgrades. They don't want people buying the kit and then finding out that they have to buy something they never intended to ("You mean I have to buy a Cataphractii kit for these?"), or, worse, that they've tried to use it with another Terminator kit and found out that it didn't work ("What do you mean these don't work with my Wood Elf archers?").

This way the only way to get this kit is to have all the pieces you need to make it work. Nothing more complicated than that.

The recent spate of Thousand Sons releases in quick succession is sure doing a number on my bank account.

Speaking of which, my Osirons OUGHT to have shipped today. Hmm.

FW already make plenty of upgrade kits. If it's not a problem for the dozens of other upgrade kits I don't see why it should be for this one.

or, worse, that they've tried to use it with another Terminator kit and found out that it didn't work
So just have a warning "NOTE: These are designed as an upgrade kit for Cataphractii armour and may not fit other armour marks".

I know your typical wargamer is pretty stupid, but they aren't THAT stupid.

Given a lot of people are going to have Cataphractii's from Calth it doesn't seem like a stretch to just give the option of buying the resin bits by themselves. If they just sold this...

...it'd just look like every other upgrade kit you can buy from FW.

I'm not saying I wouldn't like an upgrade kit - hell I just want some of the weapons. I'm just saying that I understand their reasoning.

They only work with one kit, so why not just sell it with that kit?

Because the kit they work with is often bought as part of a larger bundle, BaC, which a lot of people are already going to have. FW have lots of kits that are upgrades and only work with one kit. The Vendetta conversion kit, the Space Wolf Terminator conversion kit, a bunch of vehicle conversion kits.

The only reason I can see to not sell it as a conversion kit is they want to sell more Cataphractii's rather than letting people upgrade their existing ones or the ones they are buying out of the Calth boxed set.

Holy Terra.

Ok, Im gonna see if I can find some used MK IVs to cannibalise for those khetetai.

And I am sooooo glad the Sons rules came out before 8th, if 30k switches I'll just keep playing 7th.

Couldn't hurt to send them another message along those lines, Skink. Maybe they'll offer the kit later on, particularly if these aren't selling as a full kit.

I'd encourage everyone in the same situation to let them know. They might see sense if enough of us ask.

I think the resin torso parts could easily fit on the tartaros terminators. There isnt a huge difference between the cataphractii and tartaros waist area. The big difficulty would be having tartaros right arms to accept the power weapons.

Bits buy the 40K Scarab Occult arms, the khopesh is separate for both.

Am I the only one who doesn't like the Cata's (or the Osiron now I've seen it painted)? A shame I've just finished painting 15 of GW's Scarabs for my 40k Sons, now it means I'll be painting a bunch more, but red instead of blue. Would have been nice to paint a different model.

On the other hand, the Blade Boyz look much nicer painted compared to stark resin. Shame they're basically just Vets with blademaster and swords who can't score though.

Lots of Land Raider doors going sold out at the minute. I asked about the Emperors Children ones and was told they were not restocking them, so I imagine the same applies to the rest.

I am convinced at this point that the FW painter behind all the Blood Bowl stuff was given cartoony guidance and it just looks bad. Compare that Verminlord to the BB Skaven Star!!! The former is well-painted with a lot more nuance on the flesh and cloth. The latter though... just like a weird attempt at a video game character or something. Ick.

I hope images of these star players painted by non-FW painters start trickling out and we can get a better sense of them.

Actually, if you're in a contact sport, not having hair is a pretty good idea.

I actually like star players paintjob more, it looks more professional. Though Skaven are the race I wouldn't play if someone gave me an army for free, so the whole Friday release is kinda meh.
Gives a slight hope to see Macharius Omega, TAU Orca, Eldar Vampire Raider/Hunter and other sexy things they've taken out return

We can hope for something that isn't power or Terminator armored to cut through the gloom eventually.
