I actually made 5 individual scenic pieces out of bitz glued to a 25mm base. A shrine to a fallen Battle-Brother, a discarded field vox-caster, a supply cache, a servo skull tampering with a power supply, and a beacon. Representative icons are nice, but I think mine add a slight bit of narrative to the game. One could imagine why these objectives might be of importance.

I like scenic objectives... until I have to drive a tank ontop of them...

So, make some objective markers of something you WANT to drive over.

I've converted an imperial guard banner for mine, along with a crate fluff wise its my generals amsec supply and the company banner, he's more concerned with the alcohol!

Once more down to the beach, dear friends, once more,
To drown our sorrows with our English beer!
In peace there's nothing so becomes a man
As modest stillness and humility;
But when the blast of alcohol blows in our ears,
Then imitate the action of the tiger:
Stiffen the sinews, summon up the blood.

I usually model some scenic bitz onto a 25mm base. For my Marines I put an Imperial ammo crate, auspex, and a bolter on a base for one. Another has a gravestone and a lasgun stuck into the ground. One for my Orks has a bosspole with a bunch of shells, ammo clips, and stikkbomms on the ground around it. Objectives are fun to make - shame I don't have room in my case for any though.

Scenic bits on a base here as well. Extra bosspoles, ammo bits, fuel barrels, and just general lootable looking scrap plating and such.
I think they turned out fairly nice, but I haven't had someone drive onto one yet. I should probably get an empty base to replace them with in case it happens.

I personally use the only things I have - two random bitz that came with the Stealth Suits (One for the Stealth Suit box, one for the Battleforce). As my friend put it so nicely:

"What are they?"
"They're beacons."
"Why do we need them?"
"...because they're beacons."

My friend has the best objective concept I've ever heard, though. He's working on getting an extra Dreadnought base to actually make it, but he's planning on expanding a metal generator he built out of some random bitz into a full-fledged recreation objective. It will comprise of the generator, a mini-fridge, a television, and a satellite dish. I'm not sure how well it'll turn out, but I'm interested to see it done. I wouldn't be surprised, given how dedicated he is to his army. I doubt he's alone, but he received, assembled, and fully painted a Baneblade (His first Baneblade, mind you) in about 7 hours non-stop on Christmas Day.

I've only made 2 so far. 1 is a bunch of Tau seeker missles laying on the ground. Another one is a Firewarrior I painted to look bronze, holding out a dish in one hand as a place to put your offerings.

Ammunition crates work well for me. My bits box being quite empty, I have also bought a pair of imperial scanners from FW. To add some variety, plus they look so cool.

I have a couple here and there, like a bunch of fuel barrels with pumps and other storage tanks, or a bunch of ammo crates and lasguns. By far my favorite objective markers i have are dark eldar slave girls.

I assault with my guardsmen, why dont you?

I was thinking of making one for the Imperial Guard. It would be a military style grave, with a bayoneted-lasgun stuck into the ground and a helmet on top.

I just kill all the enemy and stuff the objectives! [bwahaha]

Though I often use little kinder egg toys, or some little alabaster statues that I got in Egypt. They look kinda cool.

I did make some objectives a while ago (the usual fuel barrel, ammo crate, etc markers), though I have never used them as they are buried under loads of other crap in my painting area

Those are handy for that.

Those beacon things in Terminator boxes are another one I use.

I generally use 60mm bases. That's just because I happened to start with them. There's more real estate on the base as well, which can be helpful.

The first few I made weren't terribly well done, but they work. The last one I put together with Sparky and V to go with Sean's Chaos stuff.
