Well i'm starting another greenskin army but this time it's the big boyz.
Back in 2005 i had a very badly painted and terribly painted ork army which got lost when i moved house. Not wanting to put the effort in again i started sm but in the early months of 2010 i started bad moonsbut i just could'nt get it right again . Then in the summer i started a deffskull army in hope i could get in right and the paintjob and modelling was very ameture and when i moved house again the models got broken and wrecked. but now near the end of a terrible year of orks i'm salvaging what i can of the deff skullz and have decided to do another ork army but this time with good moddelling and painting.

here are the first models even though they are goffs in this mob, there will be other clans in other mobs.

anyway what do you guys thing of the painting on these guys, i'm hoping to get lots of comments so tell me what you think

Looking pretty good,I like the rust effects alot.
Only "criticism" I could offer would be,since they are supposed to be Goffs, you may want to add some check patterns to the helmets/shoulder pads/weapons,etc ,and the ork on the far left with the big shoota seems a bit "brightly dressed" for a "propah Goff".

Overall nice work,I'll be interested in seeing more.

thanks for the feedback
i agree they are overdressed for goffs maybe they would be better blood axes?
but anyway i'm very pleased with the rust and it was so easy just brown and orrange stippled on i'll be puting much more rust throughout the army.

Blood axes tend to favour a camouflage pattern for their uniforms,I'd say darken up the BS orks trousers, add some black and white checks here and there, and they'll be fine as Goffs.

Of course you could just leave them as is and call them freebooters.

i might do that with the 9 boyz i salvaged tonight but i can't be bothered to do an all night paint session.
i did consider freeboterz but there will be other clans in the army awell and i'm already thinking up ideas for some flashgitz.

I'd suggest using a Nobz box as the foundation for your flashgitz or AoBR Nobz if moneys tight.
After that all you really need to do is "snazz up" the shootas/add bits & barrels to Big shootahs and you'll have some convincing Flashgitz in no time.

Heres a quick example of a converted AoBR Nob.

FITZZ: thanks for the conversion pic but i'm definatly going with the nobz kit because of how fantastic they are. for only £15 theres so much stuff in that box. Theres no rush to do the flash gitz because i'm not going to feild them until gw releases a new ork codex where they get decent rules.

Mr.Awesome1: thanks, next time i do rust effects i'll do a guide.

Not much has happened today but i was thinking about the new de vheicles and does anybody else think they would make excellent vehicles for somw flash gitz?

i got a unit of grots done and the runtherd will be made soon.
Anyway i came up with some ideas for models in the future.

first i was thinking about buying a box of warhammer fantasy black orcs to use as ard boyz and the heads would look good on the nobz but i was wondering if this is too similar to what everyone else is doing ?

secondly i was thinking of using the new de raider as a freebota transport and i'm wondering if it would look good with traks on it ?

finnaly i want to have a unit of madboyz but i'm not sure what rules they could use? my best idea is ork boyz and putting a wierd boy in there.

so what do you guys think ?

here are the grots

Kaiservonhugal: thanks, the eyes are suprisingly fun to paint and i'm pleased witth how the conversions came out aswell

Hungryp: thanks, i do use goblin green and then a bit of goblin green, bleached bone mix. I only just realised he looked like an evil repentia i'd like to put an ork in that pose aswell

Mr.Awesome1: there are lots of uses for grots but they'll probably end up as a grot sheild or a tarmac unit. and i will definatly put a tutorial up when i next paint rust

More salvage work today but i did'nt make much progress because i neeed to walk the dogs and now i can't be bothered to rumage through my old models and my bits box.

what i did do though was build a kustom big shoota. i want to make all the special weapons to look diffrent, after all no two ork inventions should ever look the same.

Big Shoota modelling is looking very good - and I too like the grot with the Chainsaw! Are the grotz the last thing you painted? They look like an improvement over the Orks to me.

Looks promising!!!

I don't even know how people can start multiple armies over a year, as I can't seem to finish a squad per year, but still...

The big shoota wielder looks nice, I love the Ork backpacks!!!

Hi everyone
I,ve been busy building 6 Yes 6 of the new killa kanz.
the new kit is great and all the close combat weapons are bad ass and now i'm thinking of building a mob walkers for apocalypse (in the far furuture)
I've armed one squad with grotzookas and the other with two big shootas and a rokkit launcher just because of how cool it looked. i can't wait to paint them and three of them might end up as deffskulz.

heres a group shot of the fist 3

this guy has a kustom grotzooka made from the battlewagon kit and a two shoulder pads

a pretty bog standard job on this guy

this kan is kneeling but i'm not sure if it's visible in the pics. i like how he tuned out especially the drill

another group shot

i love the rokkkitz on this one

this guy was posed to look like he was walking and got hit by a plasma gun or somthing. i want to paint a burn mark on him. does anybody know how?

this big shoota is pretty bog standard posed except he is leaning forward slightly

big shoota one

Mmm killa kanz, some of my favourite models both in gaming and design and orkiness of everything in 40K.

I agree kanz are one of the best units in the game especially in orkiness

Really like the dynamic poses you have on your killa kans.

I especially like the grotzooka conversion from a battlewagon kannon, inspired!

Nice poses. I'm working on my own set of 9 kans at (6 metal, 3 plastic). For the big shootas, I wanted the option to take rokkits and have a simple swap. What I've done is taken the rokkits from the nobs kombi-shoota, drilled out the barrel of the big shoota, and magnetized it. I then removed the length of bullets going from the ammo container to the gun.

So now if I want rokkits, I just add one to the end of the gun, and the smaller size makes it look like the Kan is shooting mini-rokkits at its target.

Looking good! If you want to paint on a plasma burn, try this: first , a lighter, faded base colour, then a dark brown, then black inside, stippled with metal. Finish it off with black weathering powder if you feel like it.

Thanks for the feedback guys

ceorron: Thanks, its good to hear from someone who has as many orks as you. When I built the kans i was wondering if they were posed well enough I was also wondering if the grotzooka conversin liked a grotzooka thanks for letting me know .

Heffling: Cheers. good luck with you're kans. I always had a soft spot for the old metal kans but they were a nightmare to build so now with the new plastic kit i'll be able to pose thhem like the old ones.

CommissarKhaine: Thanks for the advise, I'll have to try that it sounds like it will look good.

Not else to say really except the battlewagon is coming along nicely and i'm building the second but i can't decide weather to use the killkanon or not.

The teeth are looking a bit clean, which is making the rivet wash look overdone? What does the front say? If its "Waaagh!" - I prefer it with 3 a's... Otherwise the rest of it is looking good
