Gets hot on a dread??

Yes. Don't ask me why, I don't write the rules.

But since it is on a vehicle/walker, the Gets Hot! rule really won't have any effect...

Might be a glimpse into what they've got planned for the man portable version though.

They just do that for consistency, so it is the same as all the other imperial plasma stuff.

But BL is publishing a novel called Ravenwing in Jan of 2013... might be an attempt to ride off the Codex released prior to that?

DW Dev sqaud would also be awsome, 4 Heavies in a unit, suck on that SW's long fangs lol, although 8 kraks a turn from a unit with 2+/3++ TH/SS would be far too op

just don't give em the option to tak Th/SS for the heavy support squads.

but a 4 cyclone term unit its delicious

Actually you go real old school with them. Heavy Termis get a CML, stormbolter and targeter. let targeters either add +1 to hit or my choice allows the model to fire at a seprate target. Then you can upgrade the sb to a pf or storm sheild.

Is there any precedent for that? Them releasing a black library novel on the coattails of a codex release? (I don't follow the BL novels is why I ask)

We get Space Marine novels every month. Is that a sign that we will get a new Space Marine Codex every month? No.
BTW we had at least 2 Dark Angel novels in 2011.

Besides HH stuff (which is clearly its own monster aside from the Codex/Novel line)? What were they (I'd like to read them)

Of course not.

The option will be Assault Cannon paired with a Storm Shield cause it's an awesome visual.

A +1 to bs because of the targeter would be a universal awesome for all tactical terminators. Still, you end up paying 40 per model for a glorified bolter when other variants have a 3++.

I'd much rather see all tactical squad termies become cheaper or have 2 special weapons per squad. Right now their damage output is horribad and a 2+ armor just means power wounds hurt more when they hit (since 2+ raises unit price) and instantly remove 40 points per unsaved wound.

Now, if I could say, load up their bolters with sternguard ammo, I'd be so happy.

The new paint set for 40k features the colors for traditional Dark Angels. The paint set always ties in to at least one army in the starter set; so it looks like Dark Angels in the starter set is -confirmed-.

Agreed. Salamander bolters have always, afaik, been black not red. Plus there is a lack of black on the shoulder pads and the green isn't light enough.

Are we excited because we're taking this as 'proof' that Dark Angels will be in the starter set?

Because all I'm seeing is Black Reach marines painted in DA colors and a paint set that features their colors, instead of Ultramarines...

As I said in my post:
The paint sets always tie in to at least one army in the starter set.

The fact that they're "Black Reach Marines painted in Dark Angels colors and a paint set that features their colors" is a very, very, very good indicator that this is in fact true.
I don't foresee them going out of their way to include a mass of robed Marines for the starter set, as even in the current Codex they have a lot of unrobed Marines in the Studio army--which means they can (theoretically) reuse the Black Reach Marines which are fairly nice sculpts anyways.

I'm now less excited for the starter set if they are just going to be the Same Ol' Same Ol' Marines in there, on the loyalist side.

It is all up to how good the CSM/Traitor/Cultist stuff looks now!

I don't think they'd just republish the same Marines by themselves though, do you?

Frankly--I'm guessing we'll see a Master of the Deathwing model in there or a "new" Azrael.

Just because the tactical marines may or may not be the same, it doesn't mean the Dreadnought, terminators, and the captain will be included.

I'm cautiously in agreement about this being a confirmation on DA in the starter. Looking at the track record for these intro paint sets...

40k has had Ultras for the past two editions I believe? Both 4th and 5th editions had Ultramarines in the starter

7th WF had Night Goblins in the starter who are in the current paint set, 8th now has High Elves

I think waiting till the new paints come out will help though, if indeed these space marines are intended to be DA then that'll increase the chances of them being in the set. GW designed these paint sets to introduce new people into painting up the starter set armies

So, I think this constitutes proof that 1) there IS a 6th edition of 40k coming this summer and 2) Dark Angels are the loyalist army. Now we just need a little more detail on whether the Chaos part is CSM or some sort of mix of CSM and something else like Traitor Guard or something.

They must have done some resculpting on these as they have the correct tactical symbol on the shoulder pads. I take it as a little more proof that DA are in the 6th box set and as previously stated these are tactical marines what are you expecting ?
