The Twist Thundertusk

I've been waiting for the release of the Ogre K Thunder Tusk, as I want to convert it into a Dune Twist ride. (Think Star Wars sand people mammoth, but more gothic and loaded with twist gear) Those of you not familiar with the model, see here: http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat440005a&prodId=prod1330012a

Part of the appeal of this Legion project has been the themes within themes, and being able to build what I will and then worry about the rules. But speaking of which, what rules would you use for such a beast in 40k setting?? Currently I am between IG and GK codexes and intend to mix and match from both for my games and the army.

So as I see the Legion project as long time (think a decade are so) hobby labor of love, eventually within the project I may have three or so differently themed armies!

Saturday is the deadline of Pimp My Wizard, and what little hobby time I haven left this month will be with the Legion project.

great idea i was gonna convert on of the new ogre models (the one with the screaming face) into a sort of underhive monster or possibly a monster that terrorizes a desert town that Imunda characters get stranded in during this campaign idea i have

You might count it as a dreadnought. The toughness and close combat of a large beast. If it has a gunner riding it, that would account for a ranged weapon arm. Might not have the movement for it, though... maybe a war bike or trike, or something like an ork buggy... a land speeder! That might do the trick, with the right upgrades, good for terrain tests (right?)... Do the GKs have land speeders?

The idea for for the sand mammoth is awesome. You should definitely do it.

Rules wise, I guess it could go for IG tank, depending on the weapon layout. In bigger Apoc style games it can be squiggoth or something similar.

Carnifex?? (which would give you a codex option for any beasts you wanted to add).

I guess Squiggoth is the best/most fitting option, thanks! I'm quite excited of this conversion. I'm adding a lot of imperial stowage to make sure it'll be very 40k. I am also priming the Fabricator Captain and his construct and will paint them as a nice contrast to the Thudenrtusk! Machine vs. Beast

Why not Nemesis dreadknight, if the army is already using otherwise GK rules? It's afterall one of the tougher monstrous creatures in the game and can have various different weaponry. Also I guess that are quite similar sized, at least heightwise. Of course then it can't be used for transporting other guys. Just as a mobile fighting platform with guns. I don't remember if you can give two ranged weapons to dreadknight, but I could imagine the psilencer as the crew shooting with some machineguns and then have a bigger cannon as a heavy psycannon.

Go crazy, use it as a Chimera! Gives you a 12 model transport capacity, it's amphibious (which could account to the beast's size) and comes with the option to fire out the top (3 models) and his 6 firing ports.
Give it a Dozor Blade and it can re-roll for dangerous terrain.

Seems a decent idea to me.

Disjointed has it right, tho isn't there some kinda "harder" tank from forgeworld or the Imperial Armour books that it could represent? An opportunity to use the rules for something that is rarely seen on 40k gameboards

Depending on the size I suppose you could run it as a Gorgon Transport

50 model capacity with assault ramp anyone?

Certainly an upgrade on a chimera! Probably a bit too big - unless that thundertusk has been eating three weetabix for breakfast since he was a nipper!

Maybe a Malcador annihilator with some heavy weapon toting twists hanging off it?

Why not a squiggoth? It feels like the most biological fit to me

Squiggoth looks like the most sensible option.

All vehicles will likely raise eyebrows due to them having an Armour Value...

Agreed. And the model is very convincing as a squiggoth so the counts-as fudge factor is minimal.

I'll add another vote for the Squiggoth as it makes the most sense from a gaming/model perspective. The idea is so good it almost makes me want to start a "Pimp My Thundertusk" competition

Yeah, the squigoth is probably going to be your best fit. I was only thinking of units form the SM and IG lists. Maybe something from the Dark Eldar bestiary, too... nah, nevermind. I think I've got to go with the squigoth every chance I get.

Sorry for the late reply. I have been quite buries with the =I= stuff. Original head - the one with the horns, stone horn I believe, I love that head - I have incorrectly been referring to the thunder tusk instead.

Also recently I've gotten quite excited and a little bit nostalgic about some Forge World goods. Mainly this rhino and the LR:

http://www.belloflostsouls.net/2011/09/forgeworld-classic-rhino-wfb-campaign.html

I'm playing with lists and soon posting an updated goal to build towards. I really really miss gaming!

Very cool for the OK monster-turned-ride! We've seen your work on smaller figures, but I'm interested to see how you're going to do with a large figure and how detailed you're going to go. And man... those oldskool Rhinos... I remember I didn't really like the look of the original kit, but those ones look pretty effin' sweet... do you know when they're to be released?

Time to add that one to my wishlist...

First off, thank you Migsula for years of inspiration and musings. I basically joined Dakka so I could comment on your work, though I have not till now. Secondly, Mr. Blanche himself of your blog? You superstar. *_*

Eagerly waiting to see what you get up to with that Ogre Thundertusk. Such a fantastic kit.

GAME TIME!

The army list, musings and a WIP shot of the bits as requested.

I should direct post here and at dakka, but the damn blogger interface is so easy and fast and for someone like myself the possibility to choose and fine-tune typography is a HUGE upside.

http://legionofplastic.blogspot.com/2011/09/game-time.html

What I have done though, is to start an Armylist thread where I hopefully get some feedback on the list. Not many here realize, but years ago I was a fairly decent 40k player, finishing in the top 10 of the UK GT final (so first through the heats). I love gaming but the scene here got so math-hammery and non inspirational in minis that I stopped going. Now that I am moving to new circles and have heard so much good about Bay Area gaming, I want to get back into playing. I really miss it. Besides, the Army deserves some action.

Yesterday I bought a second Nurgle guy who will end up as a chrono gladiator like the first one was supposed to and a second Necromancer, who's lover half will go underneath a banisher body. I need to pick up some Chaos Warrior legs for the Inquisitor from my stash at my Granny's attic. I am now set for the duration of the move, and if I have a bit of time should be able to produce three or hour new models for this project.

Thanks for everyone who commented on the army list here or there.

There's quite a bit to build though - so many decisions to make in terms of what new to include and what vehicles
