And the answer is...
Spoiler:
... wait for it! ...

Spoiler:
3 ! Selv nailed the motivation. Also this option does not require a major marring (or indeed any marring) of the vintage Land Raider.

The gun and backpack are from the FW Mk IV (I think) heavy weapons set. Because of the perpetual crouch that the original plastic beakies were molded in, I actually had to cut off his legs at the thigh joints, re-attach them rotated straight down, then cut them again mid-thigh. So as he stands, his groin is just above the bottom of the insert.

It wasn't all that difficult to do actually. Just took a bit of time and "figuring".

Here's a pic of the LR with both of the extra guns mounted. Those heavy bolters were an AMAZING PITA to get right considering where I started from. I had to cut this huge rear section off, then trim the bottom, then cut this major connecting section out that was in-between the guns. And those are metal guns boy-o... not plastic! Thank heavens for my jeweler's saw. I also needed to properly brace them from underneath so they wouldn't snap off every time the tank got bumped.

I've toyed around with making a cowl but it keeps breaking apart and it's not really a very Mk-1 concept. So I'll probably leave them exposed.

I think this puppy is ready for painting!

Oh well, perhaps not. I just thought of something else I want to do with it... a bit off-script if you get my meaning.

Bolters look like they were meant to be there.
Sometimes the "simplest" modelling jobs turn out to be the most difficult: Build a hatch, with a marine partially hanging out, holding a large gun, without any space for a hole = easy. Stick a couple of smallish guns to the front of a tank =
Looks like you pulled it off though.

Wonder what this added extra will be

You didn't cleanup the right lascannon barrels to your usual standards?
You didn't drill the lascannon barrels (do lascannon barrels even need drilling?)
You didn't fill the gaps in the treads (or are they meant to be there?)
Oh wait - you meant the last thing you *did* not *didn't*!
