I had a little idea the other day - there are all of these excellent modelling threads that come and go through the front page, never to be seen again. And that's a damn shame.

So I thought it might be fun to have a trawl back through the P&M sections and periodicaly highlight some old threads that people should see if they missed them the first time (or should see again, even if they did).

For this first thread, I cast back the murky veil of time and return us to the heady days of 2011.

Lanceradvanced posted a dice tower made from COD building sprues in the P&M Blog section.

stigweard posted an awesome papercraft flamer in Painting & Modelling

Also in P&M, Flinty posted this Starcraft-inspired walker conversion

And sakrileg posted this fantastic Thunderwolf Lord conversion, which for some bizarre reason didn't garner any comments at all...

Back to the Blogs, and Cvife posted a rather weather-beaten Novamarine army work in progress

In the Showcase, CptJake posted this clever Predator hunter pack

Ouze posted his light-up Ultramarine rhino

LegrandStefan shared this wonderful floationg island terrain piece
- seriously, check out this thread... there's a twist!

And over in the Tutorials section, grey_death posted this handy salt weathering tutorial.

Elmir posted this handy guide to using your camera better

And nivekdaork shared this cheap and easy method for making barbed wire.

That's it for this installment. I hope you enjoyed this little trip through the past! as much as I did. Next week, I'll spin the dial for another year, and see what other gems we can find...

Very nice indeed.

I'd like to request some old school ork funtimes: Lemmingspawn, jamsessionein, teek etc.

Yeah, there are a few names like that who I should definitely dredge up for future posts... although I want to try to keep a bit of a mix of the really outstanding stuff and stuff that might not be as technically perfect but showcases interesting ideas or techniques. I'm hoping people can look at these threads and be inspired, and so creativity counts for as much as execution here

Nice stuff here! I liked that floating island terrain alot!
The camera guide would be good for people who are unfamilair with aperture and photographing minis to get everything in focus.

A board of floating islands would look incredible. Maybe not very playable for normal 40k games, but killteam or other skirmish games

Great idea, if threads like this become a regular thing I'll certainly keep looking, There is a lot of amazing (for technical, creative or purely innovative reasons) stuff on here lost to the midsts of time, so dragging it back up is a great idea.

This really is a great idea, and will be a fantastic resource thread, not to mention a great 'come on in and stare at the pretty pictures' thread!

Thanks for doing this insaniak!

Awesome thread idea. That walker is awesome, I love it. Also greatly like the predator diorama.

Great idea for a thread.

I used the salt technique on my Nitty Gritty Tank a few years ago. Using Maldon sea salt crystals.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Great thread!

Don't forget Klaus, not Santa's work...

Flinty also deserves credit for his Hydra conversion that I stole but I guess you can't give him a swelled head.

BrotherArgos Steel Legion creation thread was also awesome and sadly came to an end before the project was completed.

The secret to painting a really big army is to keep at it. You can't reach your destination if you never take any steps.

I build IG...lots and lots of IG.

Update time - This time, we set the wayback machine way, way back to 2006. Due to people linking pics from off-site, unfortunately a lot of great stuff is lost to the vagaries of time, website upgrades, and the all-devouring dark that lurks in the internet. Or something.

But here's some highlights that are still there...

Darkchild posted a thread showing some nice Imperial Mercenary conversions

KurgantheLurker posted this mini-diorama of a Space Marine Vultures Chapter Apothecary

Waaagh_Gonads posted a converted Dogs of War Giant for his Vampire Counts army

kendoka shared this Forbidden City gaming table build

And while we're looking at tables, Anung Un Rama posted this WIP harbour table

PsychosisPC shared these awesome Khornegor conversions

And finally, one of my favourite threads ever, jamsessionein started this fantastic scratch-built Stompa blog

Great stuff once more. The Khornegors are a great idea, and it's also interesting to see how painting styles change over the years. That great SM diorama uses a very bright and pastel palette, which these days is something rarely seen.

This is like looking over old White Dwarfs, only free and better. Exalted again.

I had never seen that kustom stompa, that's amazing. One of the best projects I've seen on Dakka.

Thre have been at least 2. One of them fell prey to an unattended hob, so it might have been scrapped. The other is GODLIKE!

Wasn't the latter on Bolter and Chainsword though (if we're thinking of the same one)? Never knew if it made it to Dakka.

I can't remember hearing of any Ordinatus projects so I did a quick search and found these two links:

This one is a mention back to the original one that looks like it got melted somehow.

This one has the work in progress on one.
