Please tell me they're not selling the rules for a single weapon type for £11.99.

Probably safe to say that it's the lack of a proper kit that did them in. Automatically Appended Next Post:

Death-Dealing Dark Angels Devastator
|
Well I just played a match with the new codex. Was a pretty lopsided purge the alien win against DE.
Will definitely take several more games before I have a firm hold on what works better or worse, but my early thoughts are positive.
My CCS ended up marooned in a far corner with nothing to order much of the game, but the orders I did use were very, very useful. Being able to give any non-vehicle unit ignore cover or tank-hunter when combined with is deadly. I think this makes IG instantly competitive. Extremely happy to finally be able to take flakk missiles, although they make a HWS into a whopping 120-point unit.
I think the loss of firing points on the chimera special weapons choices with vets is going to hurt, but it didn't have much of an affect in this game.
Also, this is more of a personal pet peeve, but I'm really annoyed by how all of the new codices put all of the weapons options on one page rather than with each unit, forcing you to constantly flip back to the wargear page when you're making a list.

I love the fact that Priests can join an Ogyrns squad.
"Dur tell me about the golden armour man again. Dat's mah favourite.."
Take 6 Byull Ogyrns with power mauls and the 5++ shield with a Priest. The unit is now fearless and when you charge you get 6 Str 5 Int 10 attacks followed by 18 Str. 7 AP 4 Concussive attacks that reroll failed hits. The Priest can then either try and make them re-roll failed wounds or re-roll their 4+ and 5++ saves in close combat...on a T5 W3 model

People who boo and hiss about the state of the Rough Riders need to remember one thing:
The rules for Cavalry in 5th edition (for which the last IG codex was written for) were different to 6th.
In 5th edition, Cavalry could only move 6" every turn, and they could charge 12". Also, difficult terrain slowed their charge (although you could double the result of the highest scoring dice).
In 6th edition, Cavalry can move 12" every turn, so they are twice as mobile, and while their potential charge range has been (on an average) halved, they arent affected by difficult terrain, but have to take dangerous terrain tests instead.

Or take 8 of the cheaper bullgryns for the same price and move them into base to base contact during cc so they have a 3+ rerollable armor save on a 3 WT5 model.

So, from the rumors and previews, it looks like Sly Marbo, Commisar, and Yarrick are leaving my carrying case and an Inquisitor, priest, and astropath are going back in. I don't have a single open infantry slot to put any more in but it'll be nice to have the variety. I never used Yarrick in 6th (did once in 5th when I had his baneblade converted) but I don't like the idea of my opponent possibly picking which model gets shot for morale.

False advertising, that officer model on the bottom left is out of print. http://www.games-workshop.com/en-CA/Imperial-Guard-Cadian-Company-Commander
Also in the listing it says "3 cadian heavy weapons squads" which is just not true, it comes with 3 heavy weapons teams, 3 heavy weapons squads would mean 9 teams overall.
"This great value boxed set includes: 1 Astra Militarum Chimera, 1 Astra Militarum Leman Russ, 3 Astra Militarum Cadian Heavy Weapon Squads, 1 Astra Militarum Cadian Command Squad and 20 Astra Militarum Cadians."

Very unlikely with ld10, rerolls from a reg standard, or fearless from a priest. I would also put Yarrick away but that's because between 25 point commisars and 25 point fearless priests IG has little need for lord commisars, and they take a precious hq slot away from ccs & tank comanders.
25 point commisars are amazing. LD9 bubble means priests are far more deadly. If the commisar is in a squad with the priest the unit is fearless. Worst case scenario is he executes a melta gun instead of a squad leader.

I actually think that Yarrick is a decent choice now. He got a 4++, the ability to give 2 orders, one of the better warlord traits (no shooting morale checks) and he is our second most killy warlord (behind Straken) but with the benefits of IC. He is also our most survivable warlord model, as he can get back up and go in huge meat shield units.
The execution thing is actually better than it used to be, you just have to be careful. 3+ you can pick some random dude no one cares about, otherwise the opponent picks. This makes conscript squads perfect for commissars, as the only way one guy is worse is where he is standing. In blob squads you may lose a gun or vox, but it isn't the worst thing that could happen. Losing a psyker or priest is bad, but you can work around it by using allied ones, you can only execute AM models after all.
I'm considering buying a Yarrick actually. I had the old one but I chopped his head off to steal his hat for another Commissar conversion. He never go back up, guess he rolled a 2.

Agreed about Yarrick, I'd say he's the pick of the SCs now. Nigh-unkillable (easily protected VP), can function as a CCS orders-wise and a LC leadership-wise, very good Warlord Trait, and pretty killy.

Hmmm, I forgot about Pask. I meant out of the infantry warlords. Pask is not the most durable choice for warlord anyway. Sure, av14 warlord sounds awesome but if my time playing ABG taught me anything is that russes are not the hardest thing to kill. Using him in a squadron keeps him safe from shooting, but a few krak grenades and the whole 500 point unit just melts. Or kraks I suppose...
