@JacobYeah, Northen: Thanks!

@Matt.Kingsley: Thanks! Just realised in the "everything so far" pic - the top shelf (Stormboyz Nobz and Big Mek) *all* have dead marine bases!

@HadoukenAvenger: Thanks... I think...

Right - this week's progress report!

Artsoldier35's "Great Marine Swap" Trukk WIP:

Now with driver (and gunner) protection. Not that you can see him, but the driver is finished (well, except for some GS work - seams and stuff) too.

Slightly more from the side pic of above.

Additional detailing of the cab top plus addition of the (removable of course!) Stikkbomb Chukka. Again, you can't see it, but the far exhaust has had its holes drilled into it. Still more detailing to do though - hence no clearer pic

Da Shoota Boyz:

Here with the black tidy up finished pre boltgun metal. I have a new theory - whichever ever colour I am currently painting is my new least favourite colour! (Yes, I am now fed up with black!) Although I don't have pics of everyone - the black tidy up (around red anyway) is all done on everyone I'm currently painting - including the Big Mek and Stormboyz Nobz (who I only discovered I hadn't done that when I started the boltgun metal - and hence no photos of them yet...)

The Trukk Big Shoota.

Another Shoota...

Last Shoota in this batch...

And here he is again - but this time with boltgun metal on, well, his Shoota - including the chipping. Same too for one of the Trukk Wheelz - including the rim. Going to need some washes on that metal!

And finally, again, but from a raised angle to show the Trukk Wheel chipping better (and the top of the Shoota as well I guess)

Until next update I guess!

hahaha, the profile view of it looks like he is running away from a rolling wheel But he looks great. I think you need an ork wearing the power armour torso piece I have a DA one if it is needed...

Looking good, though it strikes me as a bit odd that you're spending more time on a wheel then on a boy...

As for the truck: is there a practical reason not to angle the hood a bit? It looks a tad boxy to me. Too many straight lines on an ork model

Last battle for 2010 is now up:
Orks & Imperial Guard vs Salamanders & Blood Angels - 3000pts

@Imperial Monkey: He does look like he's running away from a rolling wheel, doesn't he? Which DA torso piece did you mean - or just any one? I do have the DA upgrade sprue, so I'm sure the have a couple. Something for 'Ard Boyz perhaps? Oh - and have you checked out the DA FAQ? Perhaps you don't need Imperial Fists against me anymore

@s.j.mccartney: Thanks!

@CommissarKhaine: Not spending more time on the wheel than the boy - you forget the time spent on the skin - which the wheel doesn't have!

There is no practical reason (well, that I know of without trying) not to angle the hood a bit. I imagine you mean something like the FW enclosed cab Trukk? In this case though, the boxy look was actually what I was going for - for three reasons:

1) It will look different to my other Trukks (when I make the twin...)
2) I thought it would fit in well with Artsolider35's Humvee Trukk's style/aesthetic - where this bad boy is headed once actually finished!
3) I was trying to mimic a Mach Truck look (on the front)

I am a little concerned about the cleanness of the hood plates at the moment - I may add additional plates and glyphs - much like the back tray. This may break up the straight lines a bit...

Keep those comments/suggestions/critiques coming! They are all appreciated.

@moonshine: Thanks again!

Ah, skin... The real reason most people play space marines

Reasoning for the boxy look sounds good. Some glyphs might be nice, but thaty's your personal choice - some battle damage would be cool as well and if the hole in the hood is big enough, it would allow you to show off the engine!

No, the torso I'm on about is on the Ravenwing sprue, instead of having the Imperial Eagle on the front it is a DA logo.
No I've not looked at the FAQ, and tbh I'm not really interesting in DA, got shiny new Guard to be distracted by! (although I would like to have a look...where can I find the FAQ?)

@CommissarKhaine: Yeah - at this point its just aesthetic choice There is some battle damage in the form of bullet holes - but probably still too much flat space. The hole in the hood is not going to be big enough to show the engine - but remember - you can see the top of the engine through the hood - and the hood is removable (its supposed to represent Armour Plates)

@Imperial Monkey: Looks like GW is selling the RW upgrade sprue separately now - I'll have to get one

Da Dark Angelz (Orks) - Jan 21 Update

You know, I think there may be just a whisper of light at the end of the tunnel!

Now that I'm on to the Boltgun Metal - the Stormboyz Nobz are finally looking more complete. Gitsplitta's GMS Stormboy Nob:

My "twin" Stormboy Nob:

Artsoldier35's GMS Trukk got put on the backburna while I started to make a concerted effort to bring it's "twin" along. Engine WIP:

Shared the Boltgun Metal love around - Shoota:

Another Shoota:

Da Wheelz - 3 of 6:

Some more progress on the twin Trukk. Occasionally I find myself wondering whether I should even build it - but then I realise how helpful it is to have an example in front of me - that and I get better with each iteration (I think anyway!). You may note the tray is going to be more tray and less wheel guard this time. I may even try a less boxy look for CommissarKhaine Oh - and the engine is complete:

Blocked in the Bosspole bannas on the Stormboyz Nobz, plus some base details. Gitsplitta's GMS Stormboy Nob:

My Stormboy Nob:

Da Big Mek gets involved in the Boltgun Metal action - just on his left side and bottom left servo arm:

Final work on the twin Trukk for this week - tray cleaned up and glued, existing suspension taken off, back axle prepared, more wheelz:

Enjoy!

Awesome stormboys Arakasi, love the dead marines on the bases, cool looking truck too. With such a nice model, it's a problem trying to make each truck in an army look unique, but you've done a brilliant job, hopefully going to do something similar to one of mine. Great work, keep it up (subscribed)

The big mek looks fantastic, better than the gw stock model by far. It was intressting to hear you add boltgun metal near the end of painting, i'll give it a try usually i do it first by drybrusing.

@Gitsplitta: Right back at ya!

@Artsoldier35: There you are! Only on the backburna this week - honest! Actually, probably more like an inspiration recharge... definitely not forgotten!

@Boyz "R" Us: Thanks. Yeah - I don't think anyone will accuse me of having identical Trukks! Good luck with yours - look forward to seeing it?

@moonshine: The advantage of being able to cull all the best bitz! Though I've noticed a fair few decent Meks with harnesses on Dakka in the time I have been painting him. I usually add Boltgun Metal near the end because I like to clean up with black and it tends to be mostly on the surface of the model and in small amounts - this way I can be less precise with the larger areas. That and the inevitable washes won't damage the surrounding paintwork - just make it look more Orky!

@DamienOfTheWRAAAGH: Thanks!

@Artsoldier35: Good to know!

Right - on to our regularly scheduled update! I think I'll just let the pics do the talking...

Trukk Big Shoota gets some Boltgun Metal...

Big Mek gets some more Boltgun Metal...

Trukk gets some rear suspension. Its not glued yet, which is a good thing - I'm going to redo the springs with copper/electrical wire. The paperclips are no longer doing it for me (Apologies Artsoldier35 - no progress on yours )

The blue of the Rokkit Pack exhausts and Power Klaws begins on the Stormboy Nobz...

Arakasi's red through the ages... Left is my very first, very bright and clean attempt. Middle is my second attempt, and more what I am going for. Right is where I am at currently. I'm planning on seeing what a Baal Red Wash (and perhaps some Badab Black and/or Devlan Mud) can do to tone the orange-y look down a bit - just trying to decide which piece of red is going to be my test bed!

Gitsplitta's GMS Stormboy Nob with more blue work on the thrusters and Power Klaw. Still two more highlights to go! I'm off to Warhammer World next weekend (4th, 5th and 6th) with endtransmission for the Tank Modelling Masterclass - I'll be bringing him along for games against endtransmission (and any other Dakkites that would - and are able to - stop by) so that he can be fully indoctrinated into Da Dark Angelz before his secondment to Gitsplitta's Bad Moonz... Wish him luck! If Imperial Monkey and I get our acts together, he may see some field time against Imperial Fists before making his way across the pond too...

Same for my "twin"...

Mixed up too much blue (I was going to concentrate on just the Stormboyz this week for the next weekend...) so decided to start the blue on the KFF too Still have to fix up those robes (along with everything else)

Right - that's it for this week's update! Enjoy!

They're all coming together so nicely Arakasi. Storm Boy nob aside (which I'm delighted with)... that big mek is just so very cool. Something about the blue/orange combination really trips my trigger... and the conversion is phenomenal. Well done!

Thanks Gitsplitta. Watch that that orange doesn't turn more red some time in the future though... I just can't believe how long I've had him together and *still* not finished painting him! He's running out of basecoat though - so that's something.

On a side note - I'm thinking I'm leaning more towards black for his Burna rather than bone (but either is better than the current green I think...)

They are turning out more colourful than I originally expected... (red, white, blue, green oh my!) but not detracting yet I think...

Lots of lovely progress whilst I've been incommunicado, all coming together very nicely. Nice to see some progress on your twin trukk too.

Another DA fan checking in. Really, really great stuff. Loving the weathering & chipping on your reds, too. Your first red is very much like the old 2nd-ed codex DA bolter red, but the later ones are definitely nicer. I think some washes may well get you the less-orange look you want.
