Lookin 'great Arakasi! Curious to see how the tray (and the hood ) will evolve on this truck. Love the suspension!

where am I? *looks around* Well i'm...errr...I...I...don't know!

These are looking really really nice, as to the red, I kinda like it. It obviously takes a hell of a lot of time to build up so just leave it, it looks good and weather beaten. The mek would look good with the blue, could even try some OSL I'mlooking forward to seeing these in person some tim in the not-too-distant-future...

Thanks for looking everyone - as well as your kind comments.

@Mannahnin: Welcome to the (slow) madness! I hope the washes have the desired effect...

@CommissarKhaine: Curious to see how the tray (and the hood ) evolve on this truck too - it's the small differences that make it interesting...

@Imperial Monkey: We'll see. I'll have to run a test this week and present it for further thoughts/discussion. Wouldn't like to have come this far and not gone the extra mile! I'm considering trying some light OSL around the KFF and Power Klaws - we'll have to see how that goes too! Look forward to showing them to you in person too!

Doh - I've just seen the Bloodclaw and Force Weapon blues in the new WD - do I need to redo my Power Klaws now?

Ok - opinion needed DakkaDakka!

As mentioned in last week's update, I've been meaning to get around to playing some more with the red. Now I have and need your expert opinions! (Picture quality willing...) What else are Ork boyz for?

Trukk wheelz. The front plates have a single glaze of Baal Red Wash. Not easy to differentiate I know...

Shoota boy with Shoota/Slugga with a single glaze of Baal Red Wash. (Also, I've given the Ork skin - on all the Shootas displayed in this post - a Thraka Green wash in the recesses where I went a bit overboard with Baal Red/Ogryn Flesh previously - hopefully looking better)

Shoota boy with Shoota with a double glaze of Baal Red Wash. Single wash of Badab Black on the metal only.

Shoota boy with Shoota with a single glaze of Baal Red Wash. Single wash of Badab Black over entire shoota (red and metal).

Group shot - hopefully making the differences more apparent? Big Mek in the background shows the unwashed (orangy) red for comparison.

I know what I'm leaning towards - but any opinions (or suggestions!) would be most appreciated at this point! (Just be tactful if you think I've ruined them )

I always use a badab black wash on my steel parts, it just makes it look more natural in my opinion. I think a single glaze on the red parts and a single glaze on the metal is a winner. If you want to make your metal bits look worn or slightly rusty, after the black wash dries, give them a single wash of sepia. Gives them a nice, slightly brown patina that is very convincing for orks. You wouldn't want it to blend in too much with your red gun bits.. but you might experiment with one figure just out of curiosity.

Well the skin definitely looks much better. As for the Reds....hmmm. I think I like the one on the left which has the single layer of Red and then single layer of black over all of it. But I'm more of a darker Ork player. Either way they all look fantastic.

Personally I prefer the single glaze of baal and badab, I think any more and it's starting to muddy the detail you've put in.

@Gitsplitta: Just concentrating on the red at the moment - so thanks for the part relating to that! I agree and do the same (black wash on steel parts), and will be looking to add further worn/rusty elements once I'm happy with the red... This is what the Ork boyz are for - experimenting - before I do the end result on the Big Mek and Stormboyz...

@Artsoldier35: Good to know I'm not the only one who thins the skin is looking better. I don't think I'll do much more on it here - I've managed not to overdo the red in later boyz - so its a non issue after this (for now). I too like the black over red - but can't decide between that and the double red with black over metal. I think it may be the weathering that Gits alludes to above that may make the difference (I think it will be better on the separate red and black washes as Gits suggests) - the black all over just looks closer to done! BTW - did some more on your Trukk last night too!

@wib: That is also a concern. I was happy with how the wash blended some of my highlighting without totally obscuring it though. But I wouldn't want to do much more (if anything) on the red past these stages, just need to bring the metal up to the same standard...

I think the two washes of Baal red + black on the metal only looks the most vibrant. If you want darker, it's black all over, but I started playing in the GW 'red' period, so I like my stuff bright

I agree with CK, the 2 red washes look nice and warm, the red and black looks a little grimier, and I get a 'worn' vibe from your guys rather than a 'grimy' feel.

edit: How about a red wash followed by devlan? Might keep the warm vibrant tone and just darken it rather than dirty it, I find I tend to use the badab mainly on metallics for similar reasons.

Personally I like the red and black washes most as it brings the red down into the same sort of tonal range as the rest of the ork.

The double red wash seems to have obscured some of the weathering you so carefully added, so I'm not sure about that one. The single red wash looks slightly better, but still a little bright for my taste.

The skin is certainly looking a lot better with the extra wash too.

All in all... looking very cool indeed. I can't wait to see them all in person on friday.

I quite like the single wash of red, single wash of black. Really helps deepen the colors and not make it so orangey.
If brightness is the goal, the double red does really nicely!

Awesome Work Arakasi!!

Quick update - I've given everything except the Big Mek a Baal Red Wash - as I do prefer that over without. I think I'll hold off a further wash until I have more of the other areas done - it may not need it - and I don't want to obscure my hard work!

Made it to Nottingham. Gitsplitta's Stormboyz Nob has been fielded in battle against endtransmission's Guard and made a decent accounting of himself - battle report to follow at some point.... Tank Modelling Masterclass tomorrow!

Speaking of last weekend, here's a picture of Gits' Nob running away. I'm going to carefully gloss (no pun intended!) over the fact that he took out 2 Chimera and lots of grunts

You'd leg'it too if you were sitting in cover and just watched your 9 boyz get gunned (and flamed) down...

Maybe I should have gone to ground?

He was later unceremoniusly targetted by a melta squad camping an objective with nothing better to do...

Oh - and I count his tally (over three games) to be 1 Chimera, 1 Chimera assist (1 pen of 4 alongside Morgrim), 1 Sentinel and a handful of Guard.

The defining moment was his first Chimera. With one wound remaining, he exploded it, killing several nearby fleeing Guardsmen, took a wound himself - but saved by the ineffectual Rokkit Pack on his back!
