I'm not sure, it just isn't completely gelling for me. I think what I might do is redo one and post pics - that way you can see what I'm thinking, and perhaps help me decide which way to go..

As always: your mini, your call. From what I could see in the pics, they looked good; maybe you want them to 'pop' a bit more?

We got to keep (in addition to our Hellhound and its few leftover bits) the brushes (4) and powders (4) supplied - which was an unexpected bonus. Endtransmission seems to have got a jump start on me - but will try to pass on as much as I can as I use it!

I've been lurking in endtransmission's thread as well. And you get to keep al that stuff? Wow, pretty cool!

You know I'm still planning to pop over for a weekend once da boyz are finished to put your rabble grots in line right?

We'll be waiting

Well I'm starting to get the modelling itch again. I know I haven't painted everything yet but I think it's time to start expanding the force again. Anyone have any preferences on where to start?

You mean it goes away?

monkeytroll wrote:

Never! I just have to suppress it in order to get any painting done! But sometimes it will not be suppressed!

Aha

On a more serious note: Morgrim +meganobz sounds cool, but I think from a tactical point of view Morgrim (casue you need a warboss!) and some lootas might give you more options.

First part - I know Second part - not really the point - I'm sure you will give it your best (and I've seen how far your painting has come along!) and that's all I ask (well, and have fun doing so - it's not meant to be a chore!) [Edit: Hope that didn't sound conceited - it wasn't meant to - I am humbled that you think my paint level is slightly higher!]

The Good Green wrote:I am anxious to see what you do for the kommandos though, now that I see them on your list.
They aren't high on my personal list, but I have all the pieces (including the FW bits) - so I figured I'd include them

So far I make that three votes for Morgrim, two for Deffwing and one each for Rav'nwing and the Looted Wagon. I think I can see where this is going... (not counting the dual Morgrim/Deffwing requests - I only included what I thought was the preference)

Okay, I'll cast mine in completely for Morgrim...although if you do morgrim then meganobs must follow soon after, as must the rav'nwing after that!!

So four votes for Morgrim, two for Deffwing and one for Rav'nwing. Looks like I'll be starting on Morgrim and his Meganobz assuming no large late swing by stragglers. I think all of the important people have weighed in

Morgrim thanks you. Me... hmmmm - we'll get to that...

So I've been concentrating on finishing the Stormboyz Nobz banners... - more red:

Baal Red Wash *before* weathering (I learn ):

And da Big Mek while I'm at it:

And finally Asurmen Blue Wash in the crevices and around rivets and stuff:

As you can see, the Deffkopta Rokkits and 2nd Trukk's wheelz have also been getting in on the action. The yellow and white banners has been done too - just doesn't seem to be quite as varied as the red... (though with Devlan Mud Washes...) Oh - and all this work has included mixed in Gloss Varnish - love it! (and also why they can look a bit shiny...)

With the votes rolling in for Morgrim and the Meganobz (Deffwing), I decided to see what I had lying around:

I obviously knew I would need this stuff eventually I bought all of this *before* the price rise (the one before the VAT increase) - from a discount store (Wayland Games) of course . I think they only cost me £6-something each... Here they are unpackaged, eager to start - with my current Morgrim stand-in:

And here they are arranged by parts. Unfortunately I didn't manage to bonus a Kombi-Rokkit - but I did get one Kombi-Skorcha...

Some initial ideas/observations:
* I replaced the head with a Nob head on my Morgrim stand-in - the Meganobz heads don't seem big enough. I've used his on the Trukk Big Shoota.
* Apart from the lack of Kombi-Rokkit, seems a good selection of parts.
* I'm planning at least one Kombi-Rokkit and Kombi-Skorcha.
* I have some "movie" poses in mind
* Wow - that's a *lot* of metal
* Metal poses =/= "movie" poses... this is going to hurt

I've decided you all hate me.

A hobby saw, pin vice, and plastic bitz are gonna be your best friends with all that metal.

My MANZ are pretty much still in the blister... kinda want to get em up and running seeing all your guys like that xD. I agree that their heads are a bit teeny- Ive found that the Black Orc helmet heads from fantasy seem to fit them absolutely pertfectly! (Plus they fit in with my Warbosses giant metal head)

Tbh, a Kombi Rokkit is rather pointless, as at BS2 youre not really likely to hit somethin (plus you lose the TL Shoota). the Skorchas are excellent as its a heavy-hitting template, and with its stats its easy to wound stuff before you get stuck in with all the PKs.
I suppose it DOES look cool tho. You can do so much with simple little extra bits

Im really looking forward to what youre gonna do with these guys. Have you thought of using a couple Termi bits in them? Could convert a heavy Flamer to be a Kombi-Skorcha, and assault cannons are definitely orky (granted different rules, but thats aside the point xD

Black Orcs have been on my buy list for a while - maybe now is the perfect time to splash out... (actually, I'm currently going through the Citadel catalogue looking for additional "inspiration"...)

I was thinking more for wound allocation and completeness actually - plus I have two ideas I'd like to implement... But, the lack of Kombi-Rokkit is the *least* of my problems

Right, this reminded me of two "Terminator" load outs I wanted to mimic. However, I don't think I had considered actual Termi bits - probably discarded them as too small - but the weapon idea is great! - I think I just had some inspiration for Morgrim's twin linked (big-)shoota (not to mention your other ideas... I'll revisit the Termis I think)

I'm not. Given my speed, is it even *possible* for me to finish first

My thoughts exactly (to the second and third sentences, not the first!) If it's any consolation - I'm thinking the same thing for my first Meganob... but I can't let that hold back the awesomeness! (it's all a learning experience...)

Thanks guys for all of your comments - appreciated.

Really liking the KFF on the mek, are you still worried over the PK's on the storm-nobz?

Now what those meganobz need is to lose the legs and get some tracks It's going to be interesting to see how you change them up a bit, especially with movie-poses.

Yes. I'm redoing it all! ALL I TELL YOU! Even the KFF. Now - before you all call foul - I am really liking the control/effect adding the Gloss Varnish into my paints is having. I think it will bring up the PKs and KFF up to the same standard as the rest of the mini. At least this will only be the second time for the KFF - I'll be having my third go at the robes...

I bet you are

Right, so we have four Meganobz plus Morgrim. Da planz are:
* War Machine (Iron Man 2) - the plan is to split the twin linked shoota into two single shootas - one on the back of each wrist. Possibly magnetise one so I can swap out for Rokkit or Skorcha. Looking at pictures, I forgot he has the shoulder mounted assault cannon - may or may not do this (Dakka's thoughts?) I'm thinking having the arms stretched forward, outwards in a V - like he is slowly (SnP!) advancing and firing at targets on both sides. Can you see why all that metal is intimidating me yet?
* Predator - this one is more about the distinctive PK style and the shoulder mounted weapon, as well as dreads and perhaps a closed helmet style (actually, War Machine above might benefit from that too). Originally was thinking the shoota for the shoulder mounted weapon, and move the other to the non PK arm - but could magnetise it as any of the three (I'm starting to think I don't need the twin linked shootas or the kombi weapons from the actual miniatures....)
* Thunderhammer/Storm Shield Termi - swap the PK for a suitably Orky sledgehammer, add an Ork shield. Probably poke the twin linked shoota or kombi-skorcha through the shield - got to avoid *too* many shoulder mounted weapons!
* Cyclone Missile Launcher Termi - PK, Shoota and shoulder mounted Rokkits.

I think I'll be playing up the SnP look - Da Dark Angelz are in no hurry. And of course, everyone gets robes. I think I'll do up a scenic base for them and match the bases to the scenic base - I don't think my cardboard cut out trays are going to hold up all of this metal. (Doh, my original may not fit - scenically wise - depending on what I go with - suggestions?)

Morgrim will also get his own scenic base - for his entourage. As well as Morgrim, I figure I need an attack squig, ammo runt, boss pole bearer and three wound markers - helm bearer, sword bearer(s) and... something else I haven't thought of yet. The bearers will be grotz, suitably robed to look like Watchers. Morgrim himself is probably the one I have given the least though too Robes are mandatory. I'm not sure that I actually like Ghazghkull's twin linked big shoota or PK - so I may have some freedom here. Ramos Asura sparked an idea to use two DA Assault Cannons A pointing (YOU!) or "come hither" PK may be appropriate. I did want to model closely to the Azrael figure or pictures - but the weapon load out is so different I don't think it is going to be possible. (BTW - I may field Morgrim as either a MA Warboss or "counts as" Ghazghkull - so kitting up for both)

I think that is all my thinking at the moment. Comments and suggestions most welcome! I physically can't start anything until Tuesday - so plenty of time to discuss!

Yeah, I don't think tracks would really suit da Dark Angelz, just GorkaMekka urging me to spread the cybork love Although, they kinda suit Slow and Purposeful And I forgot to ask if you'd decided on a colour for the burna yet.

I still see nothing wrong with the PK or the KFF, but as always your mini, your choice

Like the sound of the ideas you got there. For the warmachine arms I'd probably go with plastic tubes and termi arms, the shoulder mounted cannon look is always cool, but if you've got the kombi-weapon spread across the 2 wrists (which is pretty essential for the 'outstretched, killin' fings either side' look) what would it count as?

Nice idea with the shield-weapon. For the cyclone launcher maybe see if you can get hold of some of the old epic scale titan launchers?

Some kind of book-bearer for the third marker? Maybe dragging a chain of glyph plates?

I don't want to confuse a PK with a Big Choppa - I assume you mean the one from the Nobz box? I did consider a *massive* sword - but wanting to avoid confusion - at this point I've relegated it to the "sword" bearer(s) (the "s" is because of how massive I was aiming for - that they would possibly need two to drag it along behind...) Then there is the placement of the twin linked (big) shoota - on this 2-handed chainaxe, "custodes" style? Or shoulder mounted (one or both shoulders)?
Imperial Monkey wrote:Be very careful not to make morgrim too much like gazghull
If he looks too much like Ghazghkull, I haven't done my job properly! I'm using him as a base for size and mega-armour. I think it will still be obvious that the conversion is based on him though.
monkeytroll wrote:And I forgot to ask if you'd decided on a colour for the burna yet.
I think at this point it will be black - until I change my mind and repaint it

Yeah - I might just leave the shoulder mounts off War Machine... or do both (wrist mounts for one, shoulder mounts for another...) wait... I don't have *that* many (yet...)

Previously, I hadn't given Morgrim much thought. Now, I'm finding myself with too many ideas

* Underslung twin assault cannons (=twin linked (big) shootas)
* Or one mounted on (or below) each wrist... (Hmmm - that may work with some of the other ideas below...)
* Lysander/Thunderhammer/Stormshield (perhaps Belial?) style - resting a large, possibly two handed, sledgehammer on his right shoulder (casual style) with a "storm" shield - perhaps made from a Terminator Would have to move the assault cannons to the sledgehammer or shoulder (or on or poking through the "storm" shield...)
* Drop the shield, put on back or have a grot wound marker drag to use that arm for the assault cannons and/or a power klaw - pointing or beckoning.
* Action pose - wielding the sledgehammer two handed in an overhead strike. Again with placement issues of the assault cannon and shield (if taken - I'm liking the idea of turning a terminator into a shield...)
* If I mount the assault cannons on his shoulder, I could move them more to the back in a "not in use" War Machine pose - it's not like he actually fires them often

Even better, if I use an engine as part of the sledgehammer, I have a good reason to paint it red

Ie - I think I need to pick my best and/or fluffiest pose from those I'm considering for my Meganobz for Morgrim - but which to choose?!?

Dakka - I need your help! (Though, if I think about it hard enough - Dakka was the cause of me getting to this point in the first place...)

Oooo lots of ideas for Morgrim. It's always good to have choices before starting off as it forces you to think why you like something more than the others and refine the plans.

For the other Meganobz, I'd shoulder mount the shoota on the thunderhammer guy, not the warmachine style one. Maybe make him more 1st gen Iron Man with the wrist mounted weaponry?

I took all your terminators in the swap. If you need one or two back, that's fine with me. I also realised that I think I forgot to give you any bases with your bits.

Personally, I'd go for an action-filled pose; resting the hammer on his shoulder is a bit casual for an ork unless he's making a rude gesture with his other hand . You could have the hammer to his side and back, beckoning the enemy forward with his klaw or directing his minions, if you want something less action-filled? The problem with the overhead pose is 1) that the bas emodel will be hell if you're using ghazzy and 2) that it'll easily obscure the face- not something you want on a character IMO.

If you want to add some humour, add a turret on his shoulder with a grot manning the big shoota

Even better, if I use an engine as part of the sledgehammer, I have a good reason to paint it red
