They're looking great, keep at it! For the red paint job, have you considered proper graffiti in red letters? 'Fasta den U', 'Eat smoke!'... Easy to do and doesn't mess up the colour scheme too bad.

@Gitsplitta, moonshine: Thanks as always. Appreciate the support.

@CommissarKhaine: How do I remove the graffiti when I *don't* take RPJ??? I mean, in that case, the fact the engine will be painted red (a la Trukk 1) would be enough. Having said that, I have been thinking (along the lines of the super exhausts) of stringing a sign across them, which would provide an opportunity for a suitable banner. I guess the other option is to have magnetised graffiti plates for the sides - I just figured they wouldn't be substantial enough...

Only a few more hours before I get stuck in again...

Well, I figure you either take the RPJ on all your trucks or on none, so... In case you use them : counts as RPJ, if not taking them: just decoration

@CommissarKhaine: Why oh why didn't you talk me into that? The exhausts took *forever*!

Well I met my deadline, at the cost of not having gone to sleep yet (25hrs and counting...). Hopes for the Deffkopta are looking slim... Thinking I might give you guys a chance to comment/find any serious oversights while I sleep before undercoating...

There are a lot of little touches. Too tired to go into them now, knock yourselves out!

My wife has come to accept that I'm always right - so should you . The exhaust looks cool though, very nice work!

The trucks look great, pretty hard to find something wrong with them; there's a grot on the big mek trukk that's still missing a head though - thought I'd give the heads-up .

@CommissarKhaine: Yeah, the grotz aren't needed for Saturday, so they are unfinished (not cleaned up either!) - just needed to magnetise them so I knew where to drill holes in the Trukks for them... Probably why they were relatively quick to do in comparison

@endtransmission: I'd been wondering where you had been, and had been meaning to touch base - no updates in your threads

Deffkopta II is not going to make it. It is just not possible. Maybe for Silver Sorcerer. Maybe you'll get a WIP shot tonight, maybe Monday - if you're good.

Tonight is effectively my last night. Everything in Orkhide shade has been spray gunned (much more successfully this time around - I must be getting the hang of it...) Everything in Black has been spray canned. I still need to do the Iyanden spray gunning of the Nob Trukk and Meganob first thing tonight, and then whatever detail gets done is done.

Its nowhere near as complete as I would have liked. It is all together and with base colours though (Deffkopta II excepted - a grey plastic standin will have to suffice ).

However, I am in good form for Silver Sorcerer. Pretty much all I have to do between now and then is paint! (and Deffkopta II of course...) Will also be able to finally arrange that game with Imperial Monkey

No. I may try and do an update tonight as some progress has been made, however slight. Work and having a new kitchen/boiler fitted have cut into painting time. I've got a lot left to do for Silver Sorcerer... including working out what the heck is going into my army! I've got two options that I can't decide between, so at this point I may have to go for the one with fewer models as I'm off to Austria for two weeks with work shortly *argh!*. Time is slipping away!

Good luck with tonight's speed painting attempts and Happy Birthday! for yesterday. Sadly no surprise ork units for you this year, sorry!

I see kopta #2, lurking in the background.

The trukks look great. Good luck at the Silver Sorcerer. I can't wait to see more.

Quick update - The Partick Crucible was an excellent day. This is only my first "tournament" - so I guess it will become the benchmark for me for others The venue was adequate. The biggest issue? Time. An hour and a half per 1000pt game. Two of my four games only went to turn three! I placed 4th (of 12).

And we got to extract some "gin seed" for da cause too - what more could I ask for?

I'll write up a separate report of the day and all four battles. They won't have pics (no time to take them!), and will be a bit sketchier than my others, but hopefully still as enjoyable to read as they were to play.

Next - Silver Sorcerer!

Yes - a not really subtle Easter egg

'Bash sum eads in - Check! But yes - the plan now is to have them do it in style at Silver Sorcerer. Lots of painting required, only one Deffkopta to finish!

Updated placing with amended official results.

Yeah, congratulations! Should make it easier to paint your army knowing that you can be successful with them.

@The Good Green & lukie117: Thanks!

Well, this is just a quick update - been concentrating on sane hours and paint this week. I'll let the pictures and captions do the talking:

Big Mek

Applied a Thraka Green Wash to the skin - it now needs re-highlighting, but has also lost the - chalkiness? - that was bothering me before. Ready for attempt two . I've also completed the red highlighting and added spots for scratches. I'll eventually apply a Baal Red Wash as a glaze, hopefully to make it all less "orange". I've started cleaning up where the metal around the red is going to be too with black - only the bottom left arm (looking at the picture) is complete so far... Oh, and I've added Calthan Brown to the robes after a Devlan Mud Wash didn't quite do the miracle effect I was after - not that you can really see this in this pic.

Boyz & Work Space

Have applied the second coat of Red, so now it is not "patchy". Put a brown coat on the Nobz robes and Painboy. Slowly doing clothes and armour in Dark Angels Green. There are 12 Boyz, 2 Nobz, Meganob and Painboy to do here - not to mention the Trukk! - which along with Deffwing II hasn't had any attention this week.

Looking good. The highlight/wash/re-highlight process takes forever, but it looks good in the end... so I've heard.

Hurray for paint!

Looking good and congrats on placing 4th! Highlight/wash/re-highlight is a chore, but in the end the effect is worth it. Nice work!

Now THAT's what I'm talking about!!

Great job Arakasi.... really creative, solid structurally (but not too solid), fun... perfectly orky. What are the plastic rings made from? (and don't say "plastic")

Blood, sweat and tears? My initial attempts (which you might see in the background of previous WIP photos) - were thin (1/2mm) plasticard strips wrapped around and glued about 3 layers thick. Couldn't get good circles though (even by Ork standards). These ones are built up of three layers of plasticard - a 1mm base (which actually joins everything else together) and then two layers of 2mm - the first providing the propeller mount points. I used a GW spray gun jar to draw the circles and then a lot of pain and anguish cutting them out with a hobby knife, steel ruler and pliers. Actually, this was driving me mad leading up to Crucible. But coming back to it I had more luck - scoring small parts to be removed and then breaking off with pliers - followed by cleanup. Still a lot more work to do though....

You should get a real jeweler's saw and a bench pin... would make that operation (and many others) quite simple for a pretty low cost. I can make specific rec's if you're interested. It's a standard tool on my bench & I use it for things far beyond gaming. Handy for anything that needs a precision cut.
