I know this won't work in text but what noise do las weapons make? The GW fluff says they "crack". In DOW they make a standard laser noise so I'm not sure what noise they would make. I'm also wondering about meltas, plasmas and the other more interesting weapons in 40k.

No one mention DAKKA DAKKA! because thats orks.

My question is what sounds do sonic weapons make?

Some people play to win, some people play for fun. Me? I play to kill toy soldiers.

Well theres also lots of different artwork that potray things differently. Like how the 3rd ed Land Raider box art had the lascannons' muzzle flash all gunpowder lookin' unlike recent box art and DOW. So I guess it depends what interpretation you like more if there isn't an official cannon on it.

Well cyronicleech i would imagine a sonic weapon like a sonic blaster for instance would sound like an LRAD. Cant remember what it stands for i think Long Range Audio something. That is all i can comment on as for the noises on certain weapons.

Long Range Acoustic Device used for crowd control and cruise liner and other boats use them against pirates. They are extremely effective. So i guess the sonic or blast master would be a hugely ramped up version of the LRAD system.

DoW Lasguns were set to semi-auto and made a cracking noise, as stated for a High Power setting from the IIUP, while Fire Warrior Lasguns were set to rapid fire and whined, suggesting a low power setting.

Lascannons in DoW made sort of a "FREEM"

Bolters in DoW sounded more like a weaksauce assault rifle, while the ones in DoW II sounded more like they lived up to their .75 Cal goodness, if still a little weak in the "kaboom" aspect.
IMHO, The sound of the bolters in Fire Warrior did far more for one's sense of power

The Autocannons in DoW sounded great, with the big tinny "Ka-chunk"

Plasma guns in both FW and the DoW games make a sort of half-arsed "FREEM" mixed with some "FWOOSH"

Meltaguns in both sound like a roaring Kiln or Smelting Furnace.

And everyone -should- be able to tell what sound Missile Launchers and Flamers make.

That's Imperial weapons. Xenos weapons are unimportant and blasphemous.

I would think no one, save the Titan Princeps and Crew would know, as it would likely deafen anyone that heard it in it's full glory

For an example of a sonic weapon, watch "The Hulk", the good version with Edward Norton and Live Tyler. There's a scene where two Stark Industries sonic cannons mounted on Hummvees are fired at him. He smashes them, but it's still pretty informative as well as entertaining!

How can Space Marines use bolters without going deaf??
Knowing how senstive SM's hearing is and how big and possibly LOUD bolters are one must wonder. And we all know that Space Marines don't wear their helmets all the time. I think bolters might sound like automatic weapons but with an RPG mixed in for that extra eardrum bursting kick.

I think if you were to take a little "pew pew pew" and mix it with some "zap zap zap" followed with a sprinkling of "dakka dakka dakka" and a side of "budden budden budden" you'd just about have it.

Every 40k weapon sounds like a deafening roar the first time you fire it.
A mildly annoying ringing the second time, maybe a popping sound.
Then they're surprisingly quiet.

Aside from flashlights, of course. Gotta be able to hear the commissar threatening to shoot you.

I recall reading that bolters sounded like thunderclaps every time they were fired. They have a fairly satisfying crunch in DoWII though.

A las gun on single, high power shot makes a sort of CRACK noise apparently. On auto it makes a sort of WHINE.

All other las weapons I think make a sort of FREEEM noise.

Gunpowder based weapons, flamers and missile weapons sound like they do now.

Meltas make no noise except for when the air gets super heated then it makes a ROAR noise.

I have no idea about plasmas (maybe a FWOOOSH).

I always imagine shirukun (spelling?) weapons kind of make a noise like arrows being fired, like FEEEOOW.

Bolt weapons I imagine are a very loud BANG followed by a SHEEOOOW noise as the bolt is excellerated by its propellant.

Sonics I imagine are a literally deafening BAAAAAAARM sort of noise.

If you've heard it, you're already dead. The weapon is so loud it tears your body apart from the air moving. However, I like to think it makes the sound of the Sonic Depth Charges Jango Fett drops in Star Wars Episode 2 (cursed be its name) mixed with the Geonosian Sonic Cannons from the same movie.

Just what I was thinking (but it also bothers me how you can hear a sonic charge in space)
