Building is looking great! If you want some more height, you could use pegasus kits to form a big chunky, tall base and have some steps leading up to the front entrance

I love the Pegasus kits! The Capital Building is mostly Pegasus kits 3 to be exact. This building is meant to be a tall corner bombed out piece!
Thanks though buddy it's great advice.

Looking good
How much has your Capital Building cost to make so far? It seems criminal that the GW one only gives you a corner for $50. I got the Imperial sector terrain set for a christmas present years ago so never really though about how insanely expensive it was.

It is hard to say. I would say around 115$ us, give or take a few bucks. Lots of bitz and left overs were used. The 3 base kits estimated around 70$ us.

Pegasus panels are definitely a better value than GW panels.

Not reading this fully the first time I am going to defend GW this corner is a 5 story corner... it is two kits remember! I could have made a two story mostly complete building so although expensive the GW kits are 25$ us per kit. I think the price is pretty high but I must say I love these kits.

I have to agree. I used to build my own ruined buildings out of things ranging from cardboard to card stock to foamcore, and the first time I picked up some of CoD stuff from GW was the last time my old dumpy scratch-build Imperial buildings were on the table. I've always tried to present the absolute best table I possibly can, and I thrive on the positive feedback I've rec'd my my local game group. One of my friends is a former GW Troll / Redshirt and he said the terrain I have on my table looks better than the GW shop he worked at most recently.
I've been collecting my terrain slowly through eBay auctions and so far I haven't purchased anything "new", everything has been used and while some of it did have issues, it was easily repaird and I picked the terrain up at a fraction of the cost. I did get a couple Pegasus kits for my birthday but haven't made the time to build them yet. I intend to get a couple more of those sets because I really like them and the impact they have on the table is (to me) completely worth the $20-odd that is costs.
However, I am working on learning to build better terrain. I've got a good start w/ the Necromunda rebuild I'm doing and there are pieces in that project that I'm actually quite proud of becasue it's clear I have improved from my previous attempts. That said, I feel that I'm still missing the mark that I'm striving for and I'm not sure if it is a lack of patience on my part (I tend to rush things towards the end) or genuine lack of skill. The PDF substations I've done are a good example of that. Alone they look decent enough, but on a table with professionally produced items like GW CoD or Pegasus Gothic I am not comfortable with the disparity between them and I tend to move those items further apart when I'm setting up the table.
I'll continue my quest for "perfect" terrain, and it's threads like this that inspire me. Even if I fall short, I'm still better than I used to be and I have to believe I'll continue to improve.

No lack of Skill on your part Bro, quite the opposite!
Only your own mind is differentiating the one terrain from the other because you are always your own worst critic. That is perfectly natural. Trust me, I cause more agony for myself than anyone ever could.
Don't get frustrated. You will always make mistakes, just admit to them, and then have the attitude of "Meh, live and learn" and grab another sheet! Don't smash your failures!, put them on a shelf where you have to look at them. I promise you, if you do that, you will learn. I should show you my failure shelve(s)! You guys would probably think I was nuts calling them failures, but somewhere I dicked up enough that I felt EXACTLY like you are right now, getting frustrated, feeling like it wasn't quite right.
All any terrain maker needs is good, solid, basic hobby skills and an imagination (and the material to work with of course). Before you know it, you won't even notice yourself using the solid basic skills, they will be automatic muscle memory movements and you will catch up to your dreams and ideas.

You and I seem to have the same problem with never having any glue around! I go round to the hardware store and buy 10 packs of those mini superglues (I despise plastic glue) this gives me about 40 tubes of the stuff and yet there is still never any when I need. Ah well, looking forward to tomorrows update!
