Don't let the airbrush scare you, that is the most important thing to remember. I can teach you everything I know, except practice. Find your correct mix of pressure and paint thinness and practice, practice, practice. I see you have some Vallejo Air paint there, that is also what I use, it takes the guesswork out of thinning the paint, with my small detail needle in my airbrush, I run it between 15-20 PSI, you'll want to adjust that pressure up based on your needle/nozzle size, and whether or not your airbrush is bottom or top feed (bottom feed needs more pressure to suck the paint up from the bottle, top feed holds less paint, but uses gravity and is therefore more efficient).

Painting the white mortar lines should not be a problem with the airbrush, but you'll probably still need to clean up overspray with a brush. That's really ok, it's still faster than brushing alone.

Oh, and carving brick lines in foam is surprisingly the easiest thing any terrain maker can do. It only takes a ruler and a ball-point pen to make all your lines perfect. There should definitely be a major tutorial or article about this simple technique.

Hi all...

Yesterday I've tried to paint up the building, but I made a disaster while giving the primer...the protective mix coat (PVA & paint) doesn't work, and the spry primer melt down most of the foam brick walls and interior walls. I' try to paint anyway, and even if the foam shouldn't melt down, the colours, the bricks and the stone pillars not appears as I dreamed. A lot of time lost, and when i start thinking about this, a lot of other mistakes came out, This force me to give up on THIS project, and let this thread die in time.

I need some time to think, because I still want to make a modular tarrain, but right now I'm not in the right mood.

I'm sorry I wasted your time guys, maybe in future I will open a new thread with a new project...

Anyway, I want to thank you for all the advice and compliments that you have done. I hope to return soon.

Dude that SUCKS
Definitely pick up an airbrush to run "normal" paint through. It will make priming a cinch. alternatively hand prime first with craft acrylic (or liquitex type cheap art acrylic) PVA coats generally don't seal particularly well as corners and sharp angles will hide any "bubbles" where the sealing coat left a small gap.

We have all been here mate and yes it is demoralising and soul destroying But thats the hobby I am afraid, but take what you have learned and proceed with your new found knowledge.

As it was mentioned the WIP pictures are to dam good not to proceed wit this project, take some time regroup and then go back to it, and I am sure you will continue to achieve great things

i can just imagine how P....off you must feel... went through that a coupla times too... it is all a learning process... the thing you should learn all the more is to not letting it get you down... you are a true formidable builder... and your talent should not get wasted due to a mishappen incident... when falling off a horse get back into the saddle asap!!! really your talent that worked so hard must see you through! what i think happened is that your protective coat was not fully coating the object... thus a bit of the foameating stuff got through and ruined your hard work...

i think max got it right to the best point... airbrush will be your friend here...that is where youir next path should be...

and to make a fine point here... it was a lot of fun and pleasure to see you make such miracles out of foam...! never would i associate all this input i gathered here as a waste of time! not in my evilist dreams!

mate i hpoe you are not kicking the can here!

cheers, vik

You NEED to continue with this.
I know it totally makes you want to just stomp on the buildings, but dont. Just think how much it made you learn, and how much better your next building will be!

Very sad to hear about tour troubles friend. Before you toss the whole project in the bin, I'd second the air brush idea. If you can afford it, it would fix your painting issues and open up a lot of other painting options as well.

quoted for the truth.. but i understand that when you lose motivation.. the project wont happen. for example, i spent a couple 100$ on an empire army, painted 1 guy, lost motivation and havent touched it since last night!.. but again sorry about that, as this was one of the greatest buildings ever (which means now the next one will be better!)
