Looking really great. I can't wait to see them in person.

My one comment is that the feet on the megaarmour seem awfully un-chipped for someone who stomps through battlefields

@HAZZER: Thanks again.

@endtransmission: Well, I haven't done the metallic part of the chipping/scratching/weathering yet - and I hope for it to be a bit dusty down there too by the end I wouldn't concern myself just yet...

Well, it's been a few days... some work (real work, but you don't want to hear about that), some secret modelling for the DakkaDakka duel painting competition, some *actual* games thanks to Imperial Monkey, and finally some painting!

So - stippled on some Boltgun Metal - Meganob and Painboy:

Nob:

Shootas:

And some pics from my two games with Imperial Monkey (battle reports some time in the future, far future...) - Nobz spanking Pedro Kantor and Sternguard who decided to drop in on top of them unexpectedly... (You can see Morgrim in the distance doing the same to some scout bikers who also ventured too close)

Between coming to me, and some very lopsided luck (KFF probably only failed 1 in 8, Crimson Fists were firing about as accurately as Orks) this was a very one-sided battle.

The second battle was much closer, though luck was still slightly skewed in my favour. Here we can see the Sternguard haven't learnt their lesson - but Pedro has, having abandoned his battle brothers (Nobz were mostly wounded thanks to being Pinned after their Trukk exploded and suffering another round of fire...)

Oh and that Deffkopta spent three turns shooting, assaulting, assaulting that Drop Pod to no effect, before turbo boosting up the field and being shot, assaulted and killed by a Tactical Squad (The two remaining Nobz - after an artillery bombardment and killing Pedro again finally took care of the Drop Pod - losing one to the resulting explosion...)

Finally, here are the boyz bedding down in some cover after clearing out the previous occupants (scouts):

where am I? *looks around* Well i'm...errr...I...I...don't know!

Yeah, I now realise that I really should have shifted the list so that the dread was in the pod, the sternguard were in a building and firing on the orks from the start, and the scouts will be dropped for a speeder, they only work in objective games where they can (cheaply) hide out. I also need new friendlier dice.

They really are! Here is the Painboy, now with blood:

And now with more Boltgun Metal, Chainmail, stippled dust of Calthan Brown followed by 2:1 Calthan Brown/Scab Red (didn't really turn out how I wanted...), Devlan Mud wash of the base, boots and dust stippling, Badab Black wash of gun muzzles and 1:1 Badab Black/Gryphonne Sepia wash for various other metal parts - Meganob:

Painboy again:

Random Shoota:

Pretty much just highlighting the bases, tidying the rims and adding some grass before risking the purity seal treatment and glossing the odd bit or two. Unless I decide to gloss them first, which I might do actually (though this needs to happen before the static grass I've found...)

Definitely the dice Not sure the dread in the pod would actually be better - perhaps drop it in empty against my Orks? I like Landspeeders - gives my Big Shootas something to do

Right, undercoated my Dakka Duel entry today (all of the above was last night) - hope to get started on that today, as well as finish off those boyz! If the blog goes a bit quiet over the next couple of weeks, it's because I'm working on my Dakka Duel entry which I can't share with you before hand. However, I have WIP pics for after the competition - so never fear! (Assuming I complete on time of course!)

@LostSoulCasey'sLaw: It didn't seem that long ago since you last slipped out of lurking

@spudkins: Sure, when they are finished

Good news - my Dakka Duel entry is progressing nicely. Bad news - I can't show you anything for it. More bad news - I haven't done anything on da boyz. Maybe tomorrow night. On the plus side, if the Dakka Duel entry goes quickly, we'll be back to our regularly scheduled program in no time - and then we'll be back to modelling shortly after (those Trukks don't build themselves - I should know - lazy gitz are still laying where I left them...)

@Everyone: Thanks.

@HAZZER: It may just be my best work yet! Plenty of WIP pics to come after the Dakka comp - though not as stage by stage as previously - it's the reason for no update pics currently though

@CommissarKhaine: Robes - Calthan Brown (CB), 2:1 CB / Bleached Bone (BB), 1:1 CB/BB, BB, 1:1 BB / Skull White (SW), SW - so 6! Deffwing - same I think but with Graveyard Earth, maybe one less - so 5. I'll need to document it all when I go back and do another major update.

And how many coats of paint for each layer?

Nah, just kidding, that's a lovely effect, I'm just jealeous of that gorgeous paintjob...

More progress tonight that I can't show you - yet - I'm such a tease Feeling confident of making the deadline though...

Good news everyone! My Dakka Duel entry is complete! (Well, I'm not varnishing it until later, and hopefully there will be some decent sunlight tomorrow to take proper pictures, but you get the idea...)

Also, while finishing up the base, I took the time to do da rest ov da boyz too

Firstly, you might remember I wasn't completely happy with the dust on da boyz before, so I broke out my much neglected FW weathering powders and added some Light Earth - here's the Painboy with his Light Earth - around his feet (peg?) and the base of his cloak:

And here he is with his base done - Drybrush of Calthan Brown, Vomit Brown and Bleached Bone - and rim tidied up with Calthan Brown:

So - for those that are curious to know what's left
1) Gloss Varnish (for protection)
2) Grass
3) Purity Seal

So close I can taste it!

He's looking great. When you do the varnish, do it from a distance with very light coats, otherwise your weathering powders will likely dissolve... lessening the effect.

Hmmm... I was planning to apply the gloss varnish by hand. I was a bit heavy handed with the weathering powder in some cases, so a little dissolving shouldn't be an issue. I guess I can always mix it with gloss varnish and re-apply if it dissolves...
