I like this thread and don't want to see it die, so I bring relevant posts, of units I really want to have reviewed by others! (Because people don't normally review my units and it makes me edgy, worrying I've made something awful!)
So, I will post one, when it gets commented on / reviewed, I'll post the next, and if we make it through 10 of my updated characters, I'll attempt to update Taranis, Master of the Razorwing the utterly fething broken flyer HQ! So - 1/10
Valeriya the Damned.
Spoiler:
Army: Adepta Sororitas (Sisters of Battle) BG: Valeriya the Damned - The unforgiven one. She who gave the command that damned an entire Order of the Faithful. Interred in a specially modified Penitent Engine designed to be her tomb, extending her suffering rather than ending it quickly, she lives in internal torment - the only small respite felt each time she rends the enemies of the Imperium. Valeriya's four armed Penitent Engine bears an Iron Maiden style tomb encasing the front, protecting her from a merciful death.
FO: HQ Squad: Valeriya the Damned Unit: Valeriya the Damned, Points Per: 200, Models: 1*, Vehicle Type: Walker (Character), WS-5, BS-3, S-5(10), FA-12, SA-11, RA-10, HP-4 , I-3, A-3(6). Valeriya the Damned may not be used to fulfil the the Mandatory HQ slot on a Force Organisation Chart and cannot be selected as the Warlord of an army. Valeriya the Damned may take a retinue of up to two Penitent Defenders. You may take up to two squads of Penitent Engines as Troops.
Wargear: Four Dreadnought CCW ( FDCCW: Four Heavy Flamers)
Special Rules: ( C: Precision Shots ) ( C: Precision Strikes ) ( C: Look Out, Sir (4+) ) Rage Battle Frenzy Unstoppable Shield of Faith It Will Not Die Eternal Suffering
Battle Frenzy: For every unsaved Wound Valeriya the Damned inflicts in Close Combat, she immediately makes an additional attack. These extra attacks do not generate further additional attacks in the same way.
Eternal Suffering: Valeriyas living tomb is armoured and reinforced to ensure that she doesn't expire. If Valeriya suffers a Penetrating Hit, you can make your opponent re-roll the result on the Vehicle Damage table. You must accept the second roll, even if it is worese than the first.
In regards to the Adjusted price, and Reduction - Costed a Penitent Engine, and off a modern Dreadnought (and a few other things), Penitent Engines are worth 105pts. Thus, at 80 they recieved a roughly 24% discount. Or a 'Penitent Engines are really bad' reduction. But it's a thing. So I'm calling it 20%, becuase that's easier to work with and operates at a slight 'homebrew tax'.
As for Valeriya, I really, really like this character. The first Penitent Engine I get will be converted into Valeriya

While a good base, i think she needs something to help her survivability. I mean, i wouldn't pay 200pts to a unit which would die at the first melta gun fired it's way. In an noncompetitive meta she would simply work as something akin to a blood talon furiouso dread. To mitigate this maybe you could give her an improved act of faith against weapons strength 8 or higher or maybe have her ct as a 'venerable' penitent forcing re-rolls on the damage chart. If you don't add something to there survivability, she is a 200pt explosion waiting to happen.
In my one game with her so far, she's a LOT harder to kill than a regular Penitent engine, and 4 Heavy Flamers were pretty brutal. (So when compared to something that explodes to a mean look (and I mean, if something hit, it penned, and if it penned, it exploded) it's a LOT better... xD)
Sadly, giving an AoF to a Penitent engine is not fluffy. :(
The Venerable idea might be worth looking at though.
"Look out, sir/ma'am" is really just a patch to keep leaders from being killed off by 6th edition's wonky wound allocation rules. I wouldn't worry too much about what it represents.

She is all hated and being punished for her misdeeds, yet she gets a Look Out, Sir?
Yes, on a 4+.
It can only be used with her Defender Retinue too.
The though in my head, is this represents the fact that she's meant to keep on suffering so her retinue is programmed to defend her.
BUT, I'm happy to remove it if people think otherwise.
All other penitent HQs have a specific rule stopping them benefitting from it though.
Also, I like the Venerable idea.
Included Venerable.
the hot headed Re'la'sho or Firestep as he is known is the longest lasting pathfinder. Some also say he is the luckiest; his first mission he was deployed on Taros his entire team was killed by heavy bolter fire, yet he continued to give markerlight support. He redeployed 3 times during Taros; every time most of or his entire team were slain. Afterwards he was given a promotion to shas'ui he continued to fight and the same theme happened his most of his squad where gunned down yet he remained. Eventually his team learned how he managed to utilize even the slightest piece of cover. He has changed his weapon of choice to a rail rifle with a markerlight attached. He became a shas'vre when he saved an Etherial from certain death by killing a Ork Warboss with near impossible shot.

Maybe, but doesn't the Average (competitive) Tau battle suit commander have 4 wounds, 2 + save, 4++ and sometimes FnP? Lacking Eternal Warrior seems like a good move, it's not like many people are packing strength 10 anyhow.

Tunyor was promoted to the rank of chapter master after he and handful of marines malevolent first company held of horde of khorne berzerkers from assaulting their devastator positions. Some say he was blessed by the emperor, others say he is simply too arrogant and stubborn to die. At the peak of the battle, Kharn the betrayer jumped into the fray and slayed their chapter master. Tunyor then challenged him to a single combat and was quickly outmatched when Kharn severed his left arm and thus disarming him. Just a second before kharn raised his arm to execute wounded tunyor, Tunyor hammered an AT missile from his cyclone missile launcher, and laid Kharn low. Despite the death of chapter master his sacrifice, as well as the chapter master's saved many more of both marines malevolent and civilians. Tunyor, however was still feeling somewhathumiliated and wowed to get his vengeance on world eaters in general, and Kharn in particular, since the fiend was spotted slaughtering imperial soldiers in 13th black crusade. He matters not how he managed to survive a krak missile in the chest. He will have his vengeance, he will have the betrayer's head.

what do you think? am i correct in thinking that he is balanced.

Hit and Run for reavers would fail on a 6, not a 1. That rule would just need to grant Hit and Run. Also going to be costly.
Gut instinct is this is costed wrong, probably quite under, but we'll see.
Should probably be BS5 too.
Is Monofilament the Eldar rule?
If so it needs to be in the entry.
I'm assuming it's meant to be an independent character?
However!
Instead of 'all reavers get Hit and Run', make it so entire squads of Reavers can buy H&R at +3pts per model, and you can drop him to 210.
If he isn't an IC or Character, then 210 as-is is probably fine.
As above, I'd make it WS5 (+10pts) because it's not especially fluffy otherwise tbh.
(Archons are WS/BS 7 and Succubus are WS8, BS6, and no DE Special Character thus far is less than WS/BS 5, so a high ranking DE with less than that doesn't make much sense in a society where rank (and survival) is often linked to martial prowess.
Haven't been here in a long time so here's a character I came up for a campaign on my campus:
On the frontier world of Das'Lyan, reinforcements are hard to come by and the enemies countless. With warring Ork bands to the north and encroaching Imperials to the south, the Fire Caste has become known for taking help wherever they can get it. One particular alliance that stands out is that of Blood Rifles splinter groups of the Ork Blood Axes, notorious among humans and orks alike for their cunning and treachery.
Enter Honor 'Ui Greer 'Eadsploda, an enterprising nob aspiring toward domination of his fellow orks and conquest of the puny human empire. This goal has lead to an unusual alliance with the Tau of Das'Lyan. In his mind, the arrangement could not be better, his meks gain access to new Tau technology, as well as the power to fight bigger fights against the Imperium and opposing warbands.
Blood Rifles Allied Detachment:
'Ead 'Unters + Up to three units made of Boyz, or Kommandoz
Army Rules:
The number of Ork units cannot outnumber Tau units.
Ethereals cannot be taken by the Tau.

Wargear:

So glad that Greer and the 'Ead'untaz haven't fallen into the common trap of "They're a shooty sniperz unit, so they have better BS!", or otherwise overinflated statliness. Proppa Orks they are still.
GENERATION 8: The first time you see this, copy and paste it into your sig and add 1 to the number after generation. Consider it a social experiment.
If yer an Ork, why dont ya WAAAGH!!
M.A.V.- if you liked ChromeHounds, drop by the site and give it a go. Or check out my M.A.V. Oneshots videos on YouTube!
My idea was to make a cunning Kommando morksman. What do orks like in their shootas besides dakka and loudness? High caliber, body-part exploding goodnness of course. So I went with that and tried to write some rules for it. I don't even think 'Eadsploda needs the rending in melee since he's supposed to be a shooting unit.
Does anyone think Assault 2 would be better for 'Eavy Shootas? Perhaps with some sort of draw back such as Heavy 2 or Salvo?
I agree, his Sword is cool, but his gun is completely over the top for at the end of the day is just a bolter. Perhaps Change it to 24" S4 AP4 Salvo 2/4 Rending?
The Relic Boltgun is salvo 3/5, whats wrong with 4/8? He has a 3+ armor save, not moving is going to be costly as it is, the idea is to create meaningful choices
Clefty wrote: The Relic Boltgun is salvo 3/5, whats wrong with 4/8? He has a 3+ armor save, not moving is going to be costly as it is, the idea is to create meaningful choices
Exactly, the relic is only salvo 3/5 with shred instead of rending. What is business does yours have being 4/8 with rending on top? What is a compelling reason for a boltgun to be so strong? You'd have made a better argument if it was a stormbolter or heavy bolter.
Personally I think the 4/X is fine, however, the 8 is very much excessive.
Are you seriously asking me to justify a design choice using fluff?
eight rending shots on a power armored body with no invulnerable save is hardly game breaking.
You pay 175 points for a sub par Chapter master who's whole kit is designed to emphasize taking pot shots, ducking behind cover and taking advantage of enemy Characters in a challenge with a single ap 2 strike at initative 8.
I probably should mention that I left out the fact that he cannot join Squads.

It isn't a "Blessed" bolter, the name of the Bolter is Blessed if that makes sense. The same for the Power Sword.
It makes me pretty happy that its close to the actual value of the model tbh.
The Character isn't necessarily for a Space Marine Army, I am compiling ideas for something closer to Exiles/Renegades/Rogue Traders/Mercenaries sort of thing
