Awesome work! The reposing of the Ghaz model is excellent! He's dynamic, he's huge, but I don't think you went overboard...which in hindsight I think I may have done when working on my Thraka.

Need more info on the suggested head repositioning and why...

Only as far as looking at the existing models and naively thinking "that doesn't look too difficult" From memory, it looks as simple as a strip of plasticard running down the top of the arm (possibly file the arm down a bit first) - then a plasticard strip joined on top of that down to the Powerklaw. A regular shoulder pad on the upper arm, then some pistons at the back - jobs a good one! I'm sure it will prove more... complicated

No - your Ghaz is awesome! I didn't think to "biggerize" mine - I guess my first thought is to keep things similar sized for gaming. However, I think I understand CommissarKhaine's issues with the size of my guns now! I forgot that the bigger the Ork, the bigger his weapons - even if it doesn't make them any more effective game-wise! I think I will definitely replace the Big Shoota now - though it still won't rival yours - I am still keeping with the idea of it not drawing attention from the hammer or shield. If I ever do another one with the gun arm mounted though...

Well, it's been a slow week - Da Dark Angelz wise. Work has been limiting my already limited time and making it hard to be enthused - but it wasn't a complete write-off (though no pics this week - sorry!)

Tuesday saw the start of the "Sekrit Projekt" - mainly just measurements and ordering supplies/hobby materials - which I'm sure I'll find a home for on my many other ongoing projects as well Supplies still to arrive...

Wednesday and Thursday saw some effort on the twin Trukk. If I'd made more effort, I probably should have taken a photo of where that was up to. Basically the back wheels and suspension are all done bar the gluing, which I think may be waiting - partially - on some GS work... The narrower rear wheel covers are cleaned up and together, just waiting on me figuring out how I want to attach them (being narrower, they only touch in one place, not two at the moment...)

Thursday also actually saw some paint - but again - nothing breathtaking. Just tidying up the black on the last set of wheels, and then not even getting through one side of all of them. Still, I console myself that any progress is good progress - it needs to be done!

Still waiting on an earlier order of supplies in order to continue Morgrim and da Deffwing - hopefully that will turn up next week and with a bit of luck - inspire rather than overwhelm me!

Promise better things next week!

Nice meganobz unit. that hammer is insane!
In my force I have a unit that uses crimson fist armour, the only way of getting into the unit is by killing a crimson fist terminator. As you can guess, it is a small unit.

Thanks for posting the battle reports. It's good to go back and see what I did wrong so I can try and plan for next time. At least I remembered to use orders in those games though!

@zilegil: Thanks! Be sure to post up some pics of your Crimson Fist armour wearing Orks for us all to admire!

@endtransmission: No problem! You are definitely improving. Looking forward to our next outing in July...

Well, another sucky week for progress - I blame work! My first batch of materials for the "Sekrit Projekt" came in, but I'm not sure how much I'll use now. Always good to have bitz on hand I guess. As the "Sekrit Projekt" is primarily a modelling project (for now) I'm thinking of attacking that while I am up in Edinburgh and leave my regular modelling and painting schedule to when I'm down in Coventry...

On the plus side, the bitz I was waiting for to continue Morgrim et al came in today - so I have no excuses for next week!

Oh, and I am about half way through a "catch up" post for any newcomers...

Morgim sayz "Oi yuze lot! Stop readin' dat Int'net thingie an' get back ta ya models!"

naaaaah. t'internet goes well with TV, pizza and booze. Painting doesn't quite work with that combination

Just worked out how many points I have that are painted. As of this moment I can field up to 2000 points, so the level for July's games are entirely up to you

Arakasi presents... "Morgrim's Shield"

Um....NO! It takes away from the Character. I know it's way too early for me to say that but I fear it is so. I think a large shield is in Order but not the full bodied Marine. I'm not even sure if half the marine would look to busy either.
I'm just not feeling this one.

I like the idea, but the termy is a tad high IMO; I'd remove the shoulder pad over his head and the targeter thingy. besides that, I love it

I dont know. I think I'll have to disagree with Art. The think the term shield is brilliant. It might look better if you got rid of some of the details on it. I see it in my mind being more battle worn and not a complete set of term armor. But seeing your past work I think this is just the beginning. Morgrim is gonna be one hell of a warboss when finished.

Well if it was me and if I heard these comments I would think of literally smashing that marine with a large hammer and then putting him up as a shield.

I like the idea but agree that it does seem a little much.

Possibly a little much, but my gut reaction was a hearty chuckle. Terminator corpse as a shield? Definitely Orky.

Love the idea, not sure about the pose on that particular termie though. When you suggested it I was picturing a limp suit (maybe not complete) strapped to the arm, so it just might be the different take on it that jarred. At the moment I'm not convinced by either the pads over the head or the sword, but still think it's a good look in general

i find it funny and since its just been put on there ya gotta give the man time to refine it. seriously think that after a few battles the shoulder guns will rip the upper portions of the termie apart, so that will level out, and battle itself will take its toll on the rest of it.... which im sure this is not a new shield. Just give it time it will be refined.

Love the idea of the Termy shield!

I think that I could offer various points of feedback, but before I do it would be good to know what you're going after. I originally only though of doing this one way, but seeing the way you've designed it I can see three different possibilities...

1. Morgrim smashes a Termy to the ground before coming under fire from one of da green beakies tanks. Picking up the body of the Termy as a shield, he advances on da tank and smashes it ta bitz. Seeing how little effect the tanks gunz had on the termy, Morgrim decides ta make dis a permanent arrangement.

2. Morgrim orderz hiz boyz in ta beat da green beakies. Most of dem soft umies fall quickly to da choppas of iz boyz, but one keeps fightin with da boyz choppas just bouncin off iz big armour. Morgrim tinks - Dis givs me an idea - if I strap one of dem big armoured umies to a shield, ize gonna be unstoppable!

3. Morgrim looks down at iz shield wiv a frown - its just not taktical enuff... Needs sumfin more... Grimskab walks up and dumps the body of the green beakie captain ontop of Morgrims shield and sayz, "Dats da last of dem boss - wat do yaz wanna do with dis umie?". Morgrim looked down on the umies armour with a bit of envy, but scowled as he realised that he could never fit into such puny armour... then it struck him, it would make my shield look a lot more taktical and impressive though...

Please excuse my bad Ork - being a Eldar/Nid player means my idea of writing Ork is just adding in "z's" and "v's" a bit more often then one would...

Anyway - the point was more to find out what you were after, 1) a Termy corpse conveniently being used as a shield, 2) Termy armour deliberately strapped to a shield to improve its durability, or 3) Termy armour moulded into/on top of a shield to make the shield look more impressive to the Ork Warboss.

Each idea has different implications into the design/modelling of your shield, and will help me give you better suited suggestions to go in the direction you want to...

Wow! So many replies and so polarised too! Let me just say first up I appreciate all of your honesty, passion and investment in my work. It is truly humbling.

Although it was my original idea just to spring the pics up on you without comment in order to not bias the feedback, time constraints (ie getting to work on time!) ensured it didn't even come with a "Too much?". Apologies for not replying sooner - I felt the Meganobz needed some attention last night (though not enough to warrant pics - causing their own frustrations...)

And... now I'm off to work again - so my in depth reply will have to wait some more. In the meantime, you'll be happy to know the shield is still easily removable/replaceable (just held to his arm with blu-tack) - so no permanent damage done yet (well, except to one poor Terminator...)

I say take a large flat object either a large shield or door either way, and take a DA banner tack it to the front and put the BA symbol on it. With ample bullet holes and tears and stains and other battlefield goodness.

I agree with Eckeon and Whalemusic's earlier suggestion of something like a door from a land raider and stick loads of DA iconography over it and then make it look suitably battle damaged. If you battle damage the termie shield that might look a lot better as well as I like the idea of using a fallen Termie as a shield but it looks too clean for an orky shield.

I love the idea, but don't like the execution so far. I think the problem with the termi shield is the fact that he's a posed model. It makes it look very forced.

I would try to have a termie that looks more like his limbs are limp so you get the feeling of dead terminator.

The one you have, unfortunately, looks like a termi leaning on his sword while on break.
