Ok so last night I I removed the clay and poured the second part of the silicone. But I forgot to spray some release agent onto the first part. :(
So I ended up with a block of silicone with my part somewhere in the middle!


So I had to cut the mold in half with a scalpel... (this would affect the quality of the parts since I had little way of lining the mold back up)
I cut the pour channel in the top and got to casting!




not bad for a first attempt.
the first blaster has major defects at the barrel from a misaligned mold
the second blaster isn't so bad... but still not good enough.

I noticed that the back detail was better... I think this was because it was the second part poured, and because i pushed the blaster deep in the clay, the back had more contact with silicone during that part of the pouring process... or something


But I think both suffered due to me forgetting to put a release agent between the silicone and the resulting way the mold was cut in two...
frankly I bastardised cut the mold to bits and ended up with a crazy join.

OK so this is my second attempt.

This time I placed two blasters in the mold and I started with the blasters the other way up..

Nice thread Panic and your molding process looks very interesting. I am also thinking about getting into 2 part silicon casting to reproduce some of the harder to find pieces. Had a good laugh when I read you forgot the mold release before pouring your second part. Was curious what you use for a release agent? I've read that watered down vasaline does the trick.

Thanx - The second mold met with a very late night drunken silicone mess! thankfully The third round molds produced acceptable Blaster guns.

I used a thin layer of Vasaline between pourings.
(I have a spray on release agent, but I thnk that it isn't as good. although the spray is best for releasing the cured resin from the mold.)

Motivation has been a problem so I've joined ArbitorIans - ++ A Tale of Four Gamers [UK 2011] ++ This should get things moving!

And the first 4 Trueborn (aka the paint scheme test subjects!) - I realised that I have lots of blast pistols.
For better detail in the Blasters I decided to cut and paste the blast pistol barrels onto the Resin Blasters.

Also the blaster gun arm holds the gun across the trueborns chest, obstructing the boobies - oh noes!
But honestly I want the boobs on display to enforce the female characteristic of the army so I positioned the arms lower.
this created a gap in the armpit I filled with greenstuff. The pose looks a little awkward.
But I'll wait till I've painted them a bit before I decide if the pose needs readjusting.

Looking good. It's always satisfying doing a wash and seeing the model start to look a bit more alive.

Resin blasters turned out great and the posing looks fine to me.

Yeah when they have some colour on them the trueborn look great! Yeah Boobies!

First up a photo of the girls after the purple ink dried... I think I'll probably hit them again with the ink in a controlled manner.



I bought a light blue spray from Army Painter to spray the skyboards...
Because I wanted to stick to a limited comic book palette I mixed up a pot of custom blue that matches the Army Painter colour.
This blue will be all weapons and tech like venoms /skyboards.

I choose Scorpion green as the spot colour for the hair and cloths. (I'm not painting the LoinCloths skin coloured...)
Scorpion green is a very annoying colour to paint.. it takes three layers to get good coverage.
I might revert the hair and loinCloth bones to a bone colour, the blue looks a bit silly?

Looking forward to Inking these again followed by a few highlights.
I think the skin will look good with a thin layer of purple ink.

Wow they remind me of the tv show Gamesmaster, the series with the techno dungeon (or hell? cannae mind). Are they intetionally 90's? I will reserve judgement till the completion of the painting.

Loving the purple! I think I need to see a more completed mini before I decide on the other colours although a light purple wash on the skin could look good.

I think the blasters turned out really well. Kudos for breating new hobby ground with molding to meet your unfufilled needs.

Whenever I start a new project I use it as an excuse to learn new skills. Your casting looks wicked dude, good work. The colours look really swell, but I agree that the bones look funny blue. Maybe a shiny black would look good?? Like those glossy black chopsticks you get?

Oh and have you considered how you're going to transport some sixty skyboards?

Also, is there a DE rule that allows you to have all hellions, like if you give an archon a skyboard...

Clear Bases will help them fit in with the Hellion horde and Venoms (when released!)



Idea not stolen from ArbitorIan's Tau! I saw the clear bases first! but i did use the supplier he tracked down.

so yeah that's the colour scheme locked down. the bones will be white.
I've changed my mind on the sky board colour they will be the same purple as the girls armour with a few panels/details picked out in the blue colours.

I call modelling for advantage. Those bases are at least 1mm thinner than GW bases.

Modelling advantage? You're assuming the average opponent won't just see 60 Hellions covering the board and scoop in terror On a serious note, loving how this is turning out, and can't wait to see your boards^^

Small update for you guys.
I got some work and painting done today. I made this tool for spraying hellions. basically it's 4mm rivets nailed into a stick!
Simple but effective, the 4mm rivets Fit the hellion socket perfectly, I stick the hellions on with blue tac and a small spot of superglue.



here the girls are sprayed purple and inked twice to make the armour proper dark.
some of the skyboard panels/wings don't look so good i hope this will be a easy fix with the highlights!?
they are also on 60mm temp bases for painting, also made using 4mm rivets (and 60m wood bases)

I have some flash/mold lines to remove plus her ArmPits/Arms need some GS... but she's pretty much done.
I need to decide if she needs a crotch chain to hold onto the board, or is she skilled enough without one?
I was also thinking of replacing the back blade of the hellglave with a chained blade like this bit of concept artwork by jes goodwin??

Which has got me thinking I could use the succubus mini as a counts as Heamonculus. (I'm adding one to get a WWP)
