I picked up a catachan command box and some old goblin wolf riders and got to work on some super grots. At first, I didn't think the catachan arms looked right. Part of it, I think, is that the arm with a knife just looks weird. I like how the arms work with them on the others. Shows the selective breeding.

What do you think?

I'm gonna have a lot of fun with this unit. But he isn't staying on the bike. I'll have to make some "puNch" logos or something.

As a sidebar for this unit: I'm thinking of doing a pigeon color scheme for the kroots. Grey skin (some black some brown, and a rare white one or two) with black claws (pink for the white ones) and purple and green shimmery business for their plume.

Noooo, keep the kroot on the ork bike, it looks awesome!! So cool actually, that an entire army of Kroots using Ork technology and being run as an Ork lists sounds like a lot of fun...I might have to think on that.

I really like your idea for the kroot color scheme, I'd almost recommend adding a little bit of plummage around the claws to really add to that effect. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do!

@Accolade: He does look pretty sweet on that bike. Maybe he can be the "Shaper" or "Sargent" or whatever. Thanks for the positive feedback, I'm glad you like the idea. I'd love to see an Kroot/Ork army! Plumage on the fingers might be too much for me. I like where you're your mind is at though.

@TaintedMess: Yeah, I'm looking forward to playing a lot of smaller games in Bigtoof. There's a lot of work to be done on it still, tho. I think I'm ready to start up on it again, a few more buildings to make and some rearranging to do. I've got plans for a lot of interior details too, which wont be visible in larger games, or even some of the smaller ones... it's just eye candy for me

@Vlad-X7: I agree, it is very surprising! The blutak helps a bit, though. I'll need to GS a neck and bulk up the goblin's waist so the torse fits better. That shouldn't be so hard, though. I will try to get one finished asap to take charge of the raggedy crew. I've stalled on the Trukk, too. Since the bits came in, I've been working on the special unit conversions more. But I have a driver for it now, so I can finis the gear shift. Then it's some wiring for the sound system and beer cans/bottles.

One of these days, I'll have more than 10 minutes of undisturbed time to work... one of these days... one of...

Pigeon kroot.. gotta love'em . I like the way he fits on the bike, it has a very 'manga' feel to me in good way. Keep him on there!

And as a grot revolution player, I just have to like the super grots! Yoy're rigt about the catachan arm though: the knife doesn't look right. Best I've come up with is reversing the knife, like he's holding it in a more defensive stance. Heck, a lot of knife-fighting techniques ave you reverse the knife, so it would look a tad more realistic too IMO.

I put together the first three Super Grots, just need to gear them up. I also got started on an Infantry Platoon Commissar and a Priest... a heavy flamer too. Here are the pics!

The hecklers. These two can't stay out of a fight, even if it's on the other side of a lake:

Here's a tough guy, taking on more than he can chew:

Here is the first infantry Commisar. There will be four to act as Lord Commissar Naflug's klaws:

Here is the priest I'm basing off one of the GW priests. I've got a book nit somewhere around here for the top of his staff:

I still have to glue and GS this guy:

And here's the first Sniper/Spotter team

Cool models, the catcchan arms fit on nicely! I just might steal your sniper idea, it's a real good idea to add some more varation tot he basic grots. I also like the priest- one of the better uses for the old night goblin set .

Yeah, I'm kinda disappointed by the old night goblin set. The waist is horrible. Otherwise, it's ok, lots of good bits!

On he sniper I still need to add a sight and connect the stock to butt of the gun. I like the Kroot rifles a lot too. They lend themselves to the sniper look... after you cut off the blades at least.

I like the mushrooms that came with that old set . Also, the archer hands make great shaman hands, if you ever intend to do a PBS, those might be of help!

As for the sniper: not to mention fixing up his face

Will the commissar be getting a cap or some kind of beret?

The mushrooms and hands are some of the bits I was talking about... there's the quivers, arrows, and shield icons. Not to mention the standard bearer and musician sprue! (now, to mention it ) It's the same sprue for Skaven, Goblin and Skeleton command. I was so surprised, and pleased.

The snipers face isn't that bad... is it? No, it's not really. The stock will cover a lot of it, being such a small space it shouldn't be hard. Plus, I hope to fix a lot of it with paint.

Sharply peeked cap for the commissar. This one anyway. I'm going to make four super grot commissars and one runtmaster commissar. I'm kind of excited about the commissars. They are the newest addition to the team. When I saw that goblin head it screamed COMMISSAR to me, so I started looking for a good commissar body for him. I didn't find the right legs, so green stuff. Then, while I was writing a first draft for Wortgob's IG style "staff directory", toward the end, it struck me as very orky that a nob runtherder would send his best grots, most loyal, fiercest, out to make sure all his under bosses were keeping up his standard.

Part of it is that the runtherds in this list are followers of Naflug the runtmaster. He's a legend...

Back to the commissars, tho- I want them to be rather individualistic in style, fashion and the like but with the same color scheme. Their personal hierarchy will be highly visible too... somehow. And "Naflug" (not actually Naflug but a self appointed Runtmaster of the same teaching) will be at the top of that chain, even Wortgob has to keep an eye on him.

I like him too, Karl. I have hunch he's gonna be a glory hog. Frankly, I think all of these grots, save the sniper team, are gonna be in command squads. Nevermind how much I like them, their gear is all the command gear... except the one with the grenade. He's just that cool. Call you out, then throw a grenade past you so you'd be blasted at him. Then he'd beat the tar outta ya with his bear hands!

The sniper face isn't bad at all, The Good Green, it's just that it might look awkward unless the stock totally fills up the gap.

As for the commissars, peaked caps ftw! I really like the idea of grot commissars (as you can tell from my blog ), so keep up the good work!

Is there a place where your fluff is all together? I'd like to read it!

I've got the back story on a background blog. I've added it to my sig. There's background for the Squig Cult too. I'll add that in a sec.

About the sniper: yeah, I know... I just wanted to glue the gun on. I carved his extended hand out... cut off a bit of his thumb, too. :~/ I'll get a stock in there... maybe a bit more cheek too. I dunno, we'll see.

Thanks. I'm waiting on some cadian command torsos to finish up the rest of them. I'm thinking about using the massive, old Runtherd Boss model... I can't remember his name, but it's a character model I think. Here's a pic,

He's all primed and waiting for paint.

He's not very commissar looking though, but very snakebite. SO I'm ust thinking about using him. That was the plan before Naflug's Claws.

Luvverly model . I really like the old character models; I find all the new orks way too serious. Read some of your background too btw, like it!

EDIT: IIRC, the old runtherd is called Zodgrod Wortsnagga.

Not the right one . The left would need a few more highlights IMO before I can tell for sure. if you're gonna leave them as-is, the middle grot is my favourite. Any particular reason they're undercoated white?

The super grot on the right looks so green he appears a bit irradiated! Perhaps that's why he's a super grot!

You could always go with that, having him standing next to some toxic ooze drums or something. The painting is ace though, looking forward to more!

I'm trying to manage a few different colors for skin. The one in the middle is my favorite too. The one on the left has been trouble, so unless I can make it work with some high lights that one isn't happening. I think the one on the right probably needs a darker wash, but just a bit to get those details to pop a little more. I'm still experimenting with the colors I have. I'm trying to do what they guy did in this video. (It is a bit of a sales pitch, but not too bad)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XpmZHUmzWCA

I'm base painting them white so they look lighter than the orks. The ork yoofs will be white under coated too, and some of the 'arder grots (like the grot commissars) will be black.

I started GSing the first Grot Commissar last night. He's coming along well enough. I also had the wonderfull opportunity to pick up a commissar looking ork with a power axe. So, Zodgrod is out as commissar, but he will still get a special place in Bigtoof.

...I do need to get back to work on those leaky toxic ooze drums. I'm almost ready to start working on the village again...

Well, I managed to get a few more grots blutac-ed together (quick sketches thta they are) and promptly sawed into my finger at work. It's not too bad, but I can't bend my left index finger.

I'll try to get some painted while I'm waiting for my dexterity to return. In the meantime, I'm still in that timesuck. Argh!

Well, it all came together at the end of the day, yesterday. So I'm able to work on the gobos again... also my last batch of bits arrived today so I'm really excited to start work on the rest of the super grots. I think I'll need more heads tho. But we shall see.

Pics to come!
