yeah,
awesome blog, I just noticed the link to it in your signature.

I love the idea of the Da'Ork Angels! it's great name for a great theme. The first boys look real good with the red gun & green uniforms.

It's a shame you missed out on the doubles tourney, that's a great motivator... but there will always be other tourneys keep up the good work. I look forward to seeing your updates...

Small update. Apologies in advance for the picture quality - iPhone, bad light and all that - but I figure better something than nothing (and we are not talking about painting yet...)

Front - showing new fuel canister and sight on the burna, attached "mek tools" (servo harness arms) and dead space marine.

Back - showing completed arms ("mek tools") attached to kustom force field ("servo harness").

Right - showing dead space marine and orky klaw ("mek tool" - fix'n stuff and keeping wayward grotz outta da way).

Left - showing orky prod ("mek tool" - jump start'n deff dreads, trukks and curious grotz).

Still to do:
  • Add boss pole
  • Green stuff gaps, burna, torso/legs/robe join
  • Join cable on hand back to kustom force field (will probably loop)
  • Glue skeleton head and ork head in place (currently blu tac'd)
  • Add trim to left shoulder pad (probably thin plasticard instead of green stuff)
  • Paint!

  • Thankfully, the model is still currently in four parts - torso (including burna), kustom force field (and servo arms), legs (including space marine) and the base - which I plan on leaving as is until painted as I can't see how I will get to everywhere if I put it together first!

Now that da Big Mek is coming to an end (modelling wise), I'm looking forward to getting started on da deffkoptas and trukks. I have a landspeeder storm and a rhino I plan to utilise parts of in each - so that should be fun/interesting. I'll have to get a move on on ordering some magnets too - as I want to be able to customise these models as well. In the meantime, I still have more shoota/slugga boyz to do... (actually - I seem to have 11 shoota boyz together, though some need green stuff - and I only need another 5 sluggas to make 11 - 2 if I use existing nobz as sluggas...)

    Until next time!
    Adrian

    Thanks!

Didn't get as much time tonight as I would like - gotta stop reading DakkaDakka - but still managed to knock a few things off the outstanding list:
  • Add boss pole - CHECK!
  • Glue skeleton head in place - CHECK!
  • Add trim to left shoulder pad - CHECK!

  • Gonna leave the mek head off for now - think it might be easier to glue on and paint *after* painting the torso... (also would like to get the orientation right after everything else is fixed in place)

    Still to do:
  • Add something under the back right foot - currently airborne...
  • Green stuff gaps, burna, torso/legs/robe join
  • Join cable on hand back to kustom force field (will probably loop)
  • Paint
  • Assemble
  • Paint ork head
  • Finish!
  • Stomp someone...

Just spent some time writing the following fluff for another thread (Orc and Ork showoff thread) so figured I should repeat here:

    History of Da Ork Angelz

No boy is quite sure 'ow it 'appened, but dey are pretty sure it started with Grimskab Badwort da pain boy... Ya know, da boyz expect those treated by pain boyz to not be quite "themselves" afterwards, but Grimskab was more than not himself after being patched up by another pain boy during the Piscina IV campaign. At first, no-one thought twice (orks rarely think once!) about his sudden ability to track down da dark green coloured beakies, his success at suggesting ways to ambush them, nor his increased enthusiasm for hacking them to pieces. He was of the Blood Axe clan after all. When he got a little *too* enthusiastic, Morgrim Grimork (Da Boss) still found a good fist would put him in his place. This was, of course, until Morgrim found himself needing Grimskab's "services"...

You see, according to da grotz - Grimskab hadn't been mindlessly hacking up beakies - he 'ad been "extractin" stuff - gin seed or progoid lands or some such. Grimskab had been self administerin himself. Da grotz had learnt to determine Grimskab's mood based on how much supply he had and how long it had been since the last administration. Da boyz began to learn the same lessons once Morgrim had also been administered to - his temperament swung from tactical genius (for an Ork, even a Blood Axe) soon after an "administration" to downright unbearable (ie normal Orky) once it had "bin awhile". He also became obsessed with tracking down da dark green beakies - especially da chaos ones - apparently their gin seed was "pure"...

Slowly over time, as more nobz, odd boyz and boyz required Grimskab's "services" - whether as a result of battle, opportunity or da boss order'in it, da inna circul came into being and Da Ork Angelz took shape. Now dey scour the galaxy for da dark green beakies, tak'n dere gin seed and progoid lands and metabolising it, integrating strange knowledge of tactics, force structure, technology, locations and secrets... - if only their Orky minds could fully grasp what they had been given access to!

Having been patched up with genetic material from a Dark Angels apothecary fallen in battle on Piscina IV by a pain boy (rumoured, but not confirmed to ne the Mad Doc himself), Grimskab became a twisted combination of apothecary and pain boy. Da Ork Angelz, the upper echelons also now similarly administered, have come to adopt a similar uniform, tactics and force structure - albeit from an Orky perspective - including Da Deff Wing and D Rav'nwing. Da boyz don't care - if anything, they get to krump more stuff!

    --- end of history ---

Now - have been scribbling some thoughts/planz for da deffkoptas:

Most of the top left is taken up of various views of an Apache gunship style deffkopta - I plan to make some "wingz" out of plasticard and mount the rokkits (cut from the front) underneath them. Front to be replaced with the trukk grill. This will put the ork "pilot" further forward. Not sure whether I'll mount the existing engine horizontally above the wing, or build new engines, perhaps out of land speeder jets. Not sure what to put under the wing. In the first case, possibly a bomb dropping compartment. In the latter, possibly the unused ork engine...

Bottom left (left page) has the start of a Star Wars type land speeder - using a cutdown version of the rear of a space marine landspeeder (or make one...) containing only one jet. I'd like to try to have the pilot lying forward, but we'll see. Probably make use of warbike parts for the front. Rokkits are attached "typhoon" style to the back.

Bottom right (left page) has the rokkits incorporated into a Space Marine land speeder front. Bottom (right page) has them chin mounted.

Top (right page) is meant to be a Huey variant. Thinking to use the middle of the Land Speeder Storm as a platform for a rokkit or big shoota wielding ork - with a grot "pilot".

Also thinking an Apache gunship style deffkopta with two grotz (gunna and pilot) - one behind the other like the actual Apache gunship seating would also be cool....

I should note - although all of the above use twin linked rokkits, I'm planning to magnetise them so I can switch out for twin linked big shootas or a kustom mega blasta. Also, I'll be thinking about how to add power klaws and big bombs should I want them. I am trying to incorporate about a quarter of a land speeder storm into a third of four models - as befitting the Rav'nwingz type nature of Da Ork Angelz.

I knew it wouldn't take long for another "paint!" comment I'm going to have to start rotating my days - modelling, green stuffing and painting... I've got four models that need green stuff work (including Da Big Mek) that I need to get to. I think I will be more inclined to start painting again once that is done - especially Da Big Mek. Unfortunately, until I have my first 500pts together, I can't play - and painting won't solve that On the plus side, that is currently only two trukks and two deffkoptas (substituting nobs for sluggas...)

Promise to do the green stuffing next week and at least an evening painting! (Might even have a better camera too...)

But what to field him as? My first thought is a pain boy - it would certainly seem to me more striking than an apothecary... Or a "counts as" Mad Dok Grotsnik? Guess I'll just have to make two!

Lions, or... squigs!?!? (yellow squigs, with manes?) I'll have to have a think a bit more about it. I was planning to model him after Azrael - in mega armour with a grot assistant carrying around his helmet Still - he is a way off at the moment - so plenty of time to tweak the idea!

An update... with better pictures! In an attempt to actually make more progress, I've been concentrating more on my modelling than this blog (as well as having my first two 5th edition games.) I've also been without a decent camera / setup as well, which hasn't helped. Anyway - I'm spending the week at home in Scotland and have trialled carting my 500pt force up here (I think I need Battlefoam!) Consequently, I have access to my wife's camera and none of my paints or tools - so update it is!

Above is my WIP Apache Gunship style deffkopta. I ended up cutting an AOBR deffkopta into a lot of pieces to make this - but I hope you will agree it was worth it! The rokkits are magnetised and can be switched out for big shootas. The big bomb is also magnetised. There is still some patching up and detailing to do - including magnetised options for a chin mounted kustom megablasta and driver wielding buzzsaw/powerklaw. But in essence, this is it, and I am very happy with it.

One of the things I noticed when I put it alongside a standard AOBR deffkopta is that it looks a lot less two dimensional - an issue I hadn't even realised the AOBR deffkoptas had.

Anyway, as I said, its not finished yet - and I'm not back in London (where my tools are) until the 4th - so plenty of time to take onboard any comments and suggestions!

I also have started my two trukks and hope to have some updates and pictures over the next couple of days too.

Not in the near future - but it definitely fits the theme. First (large) step is to simply complete my 500pt force (including painting!), which sadly no longer contains a Deff Dread.

Thanks for everyone else's comments too!

Above is my first trukk, wip, slowly coming together. I didn't want to just put together yet another static looking trukk - so this has been converted to look as if it is cornering, heavily . I plan to place the gunner so that he is firing to the left, slightly down - as if he is trying to keep the gun trained during the cornering / overshooting of the target. There should be just enough room for a magnetised wrecking ball too - at an angle to keep the flow of motion. All of the wheels are magnetised, so can be removed for cleaning mould lines, painting, transport, immobilised (1 or 2 wheels) and wrecked (all wheels). All comments and suggestions welcome as normal.

Above is my second trukk, wip, slowly coming together. Again, I didn't want to just put together yet another static looking trukk - so this has been converted to look as if it is airborne. Inspiration was taken from pictures of rally cars coming over rises. Again, all of the wheels are magnetised, so can be removed for cleaning mould lines, painting, transport, immobilised (1 or 2 wheels) and wrecked (all wheels) (as well as removing it from its "flying" base). The sides of the tray are also magnetised so that they can be positioned in either the upright (as pictured) or flat positions. All comments and suggestions welcome as normal.
