@Wazzdig Dagga: Thanks fo the tips. I think I'll just try adding lightning effects over the top to begin with...

So - "home" late from work, didn't feel like painting, painted enough last week, so onto Morgrim!

First, remove the Big Shoota:

I've been commenting across Dakka on weapon modelling that the top and bottom should line up! Here I've drilled a hole for a pin that probably will go the length of the weapon (it's supposed to approximate it for now) - which should ensure the top and bottom (above and below the fist) match. Also you can see I've cut off the top of the arm and drilled my pin hole. Metal takes longer, but so far hasn't been too much hassle...

Clean up and pin work of the body. Yes, I drilled the pin hole right through!

And here you can see the pose starting to come together...

That is only because you can't see the rest of the room! You may have noticed I now have the new paint station as well. I'm doing my best to keep that nice and clean...

See below

So - still *lots* more work to do (hammer handle and details, terminator shield, twin-linked/big shoota), but managed to get far enough to pose him properly:

Now the question for you Dakka is - too much or just right? (you know what I mean )

What a dynamic pose! I would not go too crazy on adding more details as I rather like him as he is.

Great work!

I love the hammer, but the armor seems to have some very large (read:boring) empty spaces. I'm guessing some paint will fix that though.

Comic boiok right too me, it was pretty much what I had in mind when I described it. I still feel his left should should drop a bit more, buit that might be a tad hard with that huge hunk of metal - or is the pose more stated when you remove the plastic peg underneath the base? Very dynamic though, I think you chose the perefect head!

Can't go wrong with a comic book feel can I?

Well, that's the Ghazghkull miniature for you. We'll see if they are still distracting you at the end... (before paint, though paint is also an option...)

You realise this is holding up your Trukk right? (Actually, that's not 100% true - it is building up inspiration and desire to finish it...)
Gitsplitta wrote:It needs to be bigger...
I have a spike planned for the top, and some meat tenderiser bits planned for the front face plate. And cables, lots of cables - would all that do, or did you mean BIGGER?
CommissarKhaine wrote:Comic boiok right too me, it was pretty much what I had in mind when I described it. The plastic peg is to keep him upright for photography without gluing him to his temporary base. It is possible it will be more stated without it, but if not, I'll just model the base to position him to drop the left shoulder more. It will also help to have him looking over his shield.

In his last game against endtransmission he assaulted a guard blob and was surrounded by guard for several turns - I think this pose would have looked a lot better than my current Meganob stand-in - for one, he would have towered above the guard, but more importantly, I can just imagine him swinging that hammer through swaths of guardsmen (pretty much what happened too )

I was teasing of course... or referring to the handle, which ever you prefer. I think once you beef up the handle it will look monstrously good. Massive, over-the-top weaponry typifies orks in 40k, so you're right on track.

I just never thought the meganobs looked all that dynamic, what with the Purposeful special rule and all. I mean, the way you've angled the head, and all - It looks like he's winding up for a pitch. Never thought the MANZ models could look wound up. Excellent work

Nope. I'll add it to the ponder list, but I'm not making a tankhammer (even if it is just as effective...)

Any excuse for a trip to Warhammer World. I'm sure he'll get plenty more opportunity for suitable photography in the future though.

Looking great!

I was wondering if we could get a side on pic at all? looking at the model, I thought it might look good to have him leaning forward slightly, as it would add to the pose. But on re-looking at the pic, you may already be doing this, I just can't tell as well from the front...

Also curious to see what comes next, particularly what you use to fill out the handle of the hammer and what Dark Angel bitz (if any?) you'll be adding.

Look forward to seeing more!

Cooool. He's looking good so far. Are there plans to greenstuff/carve out the fingers on top and underneath the fists? The axe looks very daunting...

Almost wasn't going to take a picture, but meh:

So here he is with two small modifications - the addition of the original axe end and makeshift (needs GS wrapping) handle. I think that handle may have to get thicker and/or shorter... Oh, also I have blu-tacked his foot so that he doesn't need the plastic peg to stay upright - hopefully will show the shoulder height difference better now...

Iandroid wrote:Wow! I really like that nob or warboss or whatever he is. Great conversion!
He's definitely a Warboss, being based on the Ghazghkull model. Here are some comparison pictures with some of my other Boyz...

Here you can see he's almost twice as big as a regular boy. He's bigger than a Nob too - but the Rokkit Pack and Wingz make it harder to tell

Skarag (Da Big Mek) also cheats - having a KFF and Servo Harness - as well as standing atop of a dead Marine. The difference between the regular Meganob is also less pronounced than I would have thought - but maybe it's only from this angle. Of course, Morgrim is not standing upright, and doesn't have additional "kustom" exhausts either. I don't think he'll have any problem standing out from the pack - especially with that hammer! Of course, that's all without giving him extra height via his base...

slice'n'dice wrote:I was wondering if we could get a side on pic at all? looking at the model, I thought it might look good to have him leaning forward slightly, as it would add to the pose. But on re-looking at the pic, you may already be doing this, I just can't tell as well from the front...
Side pic will have to wait until Tuesday night - but you may be able to better see what you are after from the above pics.

slice'n'dice wrote:Also curious to see what comes next, particularly what you use to fill out the handle of the hammer and what Dark Angel bitz (if any?) you'll be adding.
Handle is in progress above. I've been fiddling with the shoulder mounted twin-linked/big shoota. I haven't found any existing that I like, so I will be creating both out of two shootas - and making them swappable (counts as Warboss/Ghazghkull). Unfortunately, it doesn't look like their will be enough room (well - too busy/unbalanced anyway!) to add a Grot gunner - Commander Cain should be pleased I'd briefly thought of just having Groyz lug around the weapon of choice - but I already have enough Grotz to do... As for Dark Angel bitz? At this point, just the Deathwing Terminator Shield(TM) But you never know what make its way on in the end...

endtransmission wrote:Are there plans to greenstuff/carve out the fingers on top and underneath the fists?
I had thought about it. All the Mega-armour suits have enclosed metal boxes as fists - rather than articulated fingers - but it may remove some of those "boring" surfaces worrying whalemusic360 - and add to the required detail for such an important character model

endtransmission wrote:Claire's away for a weekend in June if you're interested in a rematch weekend? You can see if you can fight your way through the blob any faster next time
Ooh ooh! Sounds like a plan! Do you know which weekend? I doubt I'll get through them any faster next time though... 1) I was extremely lucky to have them fail two Ld10 tests in a row (You just have *no* luck with leadership tests, do you?) 2) I get the feeling the blob squad may be larger next time...

Anyways - so not much progress to show due to Twin Linked/Big Shoota trials. After cutting down two Shootas to make the Twin Linked (in progress) I thought I'd see how well they would fit on the normal Meganobz. Prognosis isn't good. Morgrim has been a lucky one-off I think - the Meganob arms really do not lend themselves to the conversions I want to make. I think I'll be using Nobz arms and building up the Mega-armour over the top... fun fun fun...

Oh, and I'm looking at two tournaments in May (Platinum Devil 3 & Partick Crucible) - the first of which requires escalation to 1500pts (not sure of the 2nd's points yet) - so I may have to bring some other projects forward as well...
